House 1 is a beauty. The first reception is plenty large to be both drawing room and dining room. The kutchen works beautifully. The second reception is petfect as snug and casual dining. The garden is ideal. The garage is a fantasy asset. Upstairs is absolutely ideal as well. I love it.
House 2 is small. It might work if the downstairs bedroom can be knocked through to the kitchen to make a working kitchen. That leaves 2 bedrooms, which leaves the house a bit too small.
The Mystery House would be an instant no. The ground floor room, having living and dining areas mixed in with the kitchen, none of them overly large, would just not work. No garden would be the final nail in the coffin.
I guess i am not contemporary, because I loath open plan. My apartment now has open plan, and it drives me nuts.

You are absolutely right. Although that 2nd home was 100k below house 1, it would need lots of work and extensions to bring it close to 1 which might end up costing more than 100k. Additionally, house 1 had location going for it as well, plus it had a better curb appeal. The garage is an added bonus of being income potential if they don't have cars as the house is big enough for storage.

I loved house number 1 as well. House number 2 was tempting because it was 100k below house number 1 but it would need lots of work including extensions whereas number 1 was already done, had a garage, more bedrooms, nice curb appeal and a great location which you can't change.

The beam thing is crazy, as you cannot put up a roof without beams to hold it in place - even in China

I'm shocked that in the beginning she didn't mention beams were an issue, if they are deal breakers, given she's searching the English countryside and nearly all episodes show homes with beams. First was lovely, though none had an acceptable garden for her in my opinion

I don't think beams were exactly an issue as house number 1 had beams as well, yet she picked it. I think house number 3 had it way too much and since the rooms were smaller and not as bright as ones in house number 1, it made the beams much more noticeable and uncomfortable to look at.

Why give her a mystery house with no garden? Crazy.

I don't get it. Although the garden will be shared, the house didn't have much going for it to make that kind of compromise.
