Definitely saving this for further review once it's time to start a new campaign for my players. I mean, I kinda do this anyway, but not in a way that it's at the heart of the story, as it were, if that makes sense.
Hearing it described gave me an idea for a game that's the complete opposite. A world that's become over-reliant on magic to fix their problems has basically forgotten how to be self-sufficient and when some villainous power steals the magic away, it's up to Doug from down the street to either get the magic back, or prove that people can still thrive without it
