The sad part about this song is that it's dedicated to his mother, who abandonded him at an orphanage, and whenever she would visit, he would realize what a cruel person she was. One of his best songs, that sadly, hides a very dark story.
The song is not about his mother. “It was released in 1986 as the third single from his studio album Pensamientos. Written and produced by Gabriel, the song's lyrics focus on a protagonist learning the meaning of suffering after meeting a lover who mistreats him.” The song written for his mother after her passing is: Amor Eterno. “Juan Gabriel wrote “Amor Eterno” as a “prayer of love” for his mother, who died when the artist was in his 20s and just starting his career as a musician.”
I start listening to Juan because of my mom, she loved his passion for singing. My mom passed 3 months ago at her wake my niece sang "Amor Eterno" she had the whole room in tears. She was so loved by all, missing her terribly 😭
Your comment made my eyes water because my parents both would bump this when I was a kid and my passed away in 2019 she was only 60 and my dad passed in 2021 , the music and food is something that ties me to them as long as I’m alive
Reading both y'all comments put a knot in my throat and tear in my eyes. Mom is still alive and well and have heard this song with her many times. And always makes me reflect on how it will feel to lose her. She's 67 years old and pray she'll be with us many years more.
One of the most beloved man in Mexico and Latino America. Once in a life time, generational talent representing Mexico everywhere he went. April 3,2024 and I'm still jamming to his music like my parents were when I was just a young boy.
Juanga... he was a treasure. I grew up listening to his songs. I'm crying watching this..seeing someone discover him for the first time and appreciate him despite not understanding the language...it fills me with pride and joy.
If you were a Hispanic singer and Juand Gabriel gave you a song to sing that meat that you actually made it! He was actually my uncle, but I only met him once in my life. He was such a sweet person and you can feel it in his art. Thank you for reacting to this song ❤❤❤
Juan Gabriel is a Mexican legend! I was blessed to be on 5 of his concerts here in Las Vegas, and ohhh man, He was the only perfomer that could have people on their feet for the three hours his concerts last. He always had more than 60 musicians, chorus and dancers in scene!!! He was the best!!!!

Correction; México could be machist but homofobic is a very horrible word! We use to make tons of jokes of homo but that's nothing more than the way mexicans use to laugh of everything, even the death suffers the mexican humor. In Mexico we use to practice funeral rites at home and all we know how much we use to tell funny hiistories and jokes, obviously not in the presence of the loved one in his coffin but in the yard, under the light of lamps and next to a bonfire, sometimes playing a guitar with the favourite songs of the one that is being honored bc he or she are going back home
As a Gabriel admirer, I am informed and corrected by other commenters who better know Juan's history. He was loved as a child, and happy until he was abandoned by his mother, and experienced insecurity and, in my opinion, childhood trauma, before his success. The song speaks of betrayal that occurs with both family and others in one's life. Juan Gabriel's flair, drama, sexuality and sensual pride were monumental! He's a national treasure, a human force, a Mexican icon and singular in the universe.

He was AMAZING!!! I'm originally from Nicaragua, Central America, but I live in Miami/ BX. I literally cried when he passed away. I saw him in concert in Miami in the 90s. He was like Prince, very flamboyant but he was outed. Beautiful voice and his concerts were INCREDIBLE.
I was in one of his concerts that he sang songs for 8 hours in front of the equivalent of White House in Mexico with about 100,000 people there! back in the 2004 . That was and amazing experience!! We love him for ever!
Man I’m a chileno that grew up in Australia, my parents and my family love Juan Gabriel amongst heaps of other Mexican artists but man this guy is my childhood, I get full emotional watching this performance. Glad you enjoyed this brother
Juan Gabriel is literally Mexico's most beloved artists! 🇲🇽 I love his songs "No Tengo Dinero", "Amor Eterno", "Querida" and my all time favorite is "Siempre En Mi Mente". 💖🎶
I have listened to Juan Gabriel since I was a kid but it was only recently that I started listening to him as a 22 year old and I was absolutely blown away by his art. His performance and stage presence is breathtaking and transcends time, screens, and language. Check out his songs like “Ya Lo Se Que Tu Te Vas” or “Te Lo Pido Porfavor,” it’s the same romantic tragic vibe (although most of his songs are like that anyway lol). He’s an actual legend.
Yes he was the biggest deal in Mexican music since the 70' s singing ballads and writing many songs for the best singers with Mariachi as well as you can hear in this song. He was our most precious treasure. No one gave a show as good as him.❤
He has his own day in Los Angeles on October 5th and in Las Vegas on December 17th. On May 10th, in 2015, he set a record for the longest concert, lasting over 6 hours. I had the privilege to attend a few of his concerts and even meet him. He was definitely one of kind. He will never be forgotten and his music will continue to transcend generations to come.
Juan Gabriel was someone who wrote many many iconic songs, he had a long long career and was an icon for Latin America and was known around the world . All of us grew up listening to Juan Gabriel… one name synonymous with a brand, a legacy and decades of success .
We lost one of the greatest! Mexico mourned his death and it was felt worldwide. I just loved him so much. He was my mom's favorite and he will be my kids favorite too! ❤
If Mexico ever wants to take over Latino America, bumping they music loudly is their way to do it.. Juan Gabriel Jose Jose, Jose Alfredo Jimenez, El Tri.. Uff, the list goes on.. Mexico is a powerhouse, a world power when it comes to talented musicians, artists n comedians.. The amount of talent Mexico has is 2nd to none..
It is Spanish, and the song talks about how he lived clueless and happy until he fell in love, then he knew about suffering, like he was taken for granted, he said i was happy, but with just a little love, yes the one that got away... Love your video and appreciation for the Hispanic culture. He was a great interpreter!
He made the list on The Rolling Stones top vocalist of all time. He’s an icon. Check out videos on TH-cam of him and Rocio Durcal. Also, I recommend Juan Gabriel’s Abrazeme Muy Fuerte at Bella Artes. Amor eterno has become a mourning song. If you learn Spanish it will make you cry. When Kobe Bryant died mariachis played Amor Eterno as a tribute to Kobe Bryant and his daughter. Also he has written 1800 songs.
Juan Gabriel makes any grown ass person cry. Never went to any of his concerts because as a juvenile this kind of music didn't interest me, but now i see his live performances and you can tell right away that its a privilege to see him sing.

“It was released in 1986 as the third single from his studio album Pensamientos. Written and produced by Gabriel, the song's lyrics focus on a protagonist learning the meaning of suffering after meeting a lover who mistreats him.”
The song written for his mother after her passing is: Amor Eterno.
“Juan Gabriel wrote “Amor Eterno” as a “prayer of love” for his mother, who died when the artist was in his 20s and just starting his career as a musician.”
I had no clue that this song was about that, wow.
I start listening to Juan because of my mom, she loved his passion for singing. My mom passed 3 months ago at her wake my niece sang "Amor Eterno" she had the whole room in tears. She was so loved by all, missing her terribly 😭
🙏🏽🙏🏽
Your comment made my eyes water because my parents both would bump this when I was a kid and my passed away in 2019 she was only 60 and my dad passed in 2021 , the music and food is something that ties me to them as long as I’m alive
Reading both y'all comments put a knot in my throat and tear in my eyes. Mom is still alive and well and have heard this song with her many times. And always makes me reflect on how it will feel to lose her. She's 67 years old and pray she'll be with us many years more.
Am so sorry for your loss I just lost my mom 2 months ago🙏🏼🙏🏼
QEPD, that song will split your heart in 2 and if she managed to actually finish the song it’s only because the tears have all been cried out.
You have no idea how powerful his music is. Sadly, he’s passed away but left us with so many songs and great memories.
Loved your reaction. As a Mexican American, I grew up listening to his music. He is a true legend, and your reaction is humbling.
Thx you
I was 22 when I fell in love with Juan Gabriel I bought 28 cd’s
🇵🇷 This Boricua loved him 🇲🇽😍🇲🇽
Yes me too,and I love Ana Gabriel which they not related but she sings beautifully
Me too! 🇵🇷
@@ooop3022yes!
If you were a Hispanic singer and Juand Gabriel gave you a song to sing that meat that you actually made it!
He was actually my uncle, but I only met him once in my life. He was such a sweet person and you can feel it in his art.
Thank you for reacting to this song ❤❤❤
Thank you Mexico 🇲🇽 for gifting us Juan Gabriel. Bendiciones desde Puerto Rico 🇵🇷
You're welcome brother.. Salu2 a Puerto Rico..
Salvadorian here and I will say I grew up on these songs. My parents loved Juan Gabriel 💛
He was the best!!!!
que suerte hermano
Juanga is a Worldwide LEGEND
❤❤❤🎉
There will never be another talent like Juan Gabriel!
Juan Gabriel IS (and I say IS, because he will live forever in our hearts), the greatest singer-songwriter México has ever had. All of his songs are so beautifully written and his performance was always the best!
I he is the greatest Latino artist in history he had everything for a complete artist
Im really sorry for the new generations that they will never experience a live concert with this INCREDIBLE singer.
Its the Quality, the banter he has with the public, the emotion, he had a truly blessed voice.
Yes I saw him in concert for 3 hours. He wanted to go more. But the venue closing at 12 mid.
I grew up listening to this iconic music. Juan Gabriel is and will always be in a class of his own. There's absolutely no comparison. My mom adored him; I m so happy I'm able to appreciate his music then, now and always!!!!Thank you Juan Gabriel for your music. Thank you DonVon for this beautiful video. ❤❤❤
I’m from Texas Latina and so so proud to meeting Juan Gabriel in person at the historic La Posada Hotel in Laredo Texas. He was so humble and polite. He was caring and loving to all his followers. Donated millions of dollars to the homeless kids and so many other institutions. His music was and is incredible and his performances were absolutely amazing. He lives in the hearts of millions of Hispanics. Thank you for acknowledging his God given talent. Juan Gabriel is Mexico’s #1 talent.
Everyone in Latin America knows Juan Gabriel. Growing up listening to him did something to my soul ❤❤❤❤ I still get chills every time I listen to him! He’s a legend. Thanks for reacting to this video
He improvised, he basically did whatever he wanted with his music and it was out of this world what he achieved! All of this he did it out of nowhere and it turned out to be one of the best concerts in the history of Mexico!!
SHOWMAN HE CANT BE BEAT OVER 1,600 SONGS HE WROTE. HE BROUGHT SINGERS BACK TO FAME JUST BY SINGING HIS SONGS. NO ONE SANG LIKE HIM, HE HAD HIS OWN STYLE!! 💜
"This dude got to be one of the biggest artists in the Hispanic culture". Absolutely. Millions of us Latin Americans love him (adore him).
Many of the songs you hear in the radio sung from even international singers are from his compositions. This guy was born to write songs and sing!
Every time Juan Gabriel opened his mouth to sing, your whole flesh would feel it! He was, is and will be one of the greatest artist Mexico had. ❤
Juan Gabriel wasnt in a another league, he prayed a sport no one else could
The king!
Even in a country full of homophobia, there is not a single person who is not moved by his songs. One of the best ❤
Totally agree with you.........
Word!
@@jomi9858gfdrtiyes! U get it!! 👍🏻😂 "Es pura carrilla!" All we do is fuck around joking
"Bro... He is built different" I love it!
I remember my uncles making fun of Juangas drip, but they failed to realize. The man had style and class.
I absolutely love his songs. The guy was one of the most talented artists in Latin America. Amazing composer, song writer, performer, and his voice was so uniquely beautiful. Thanks for playing his song!
Not only did he compose his own music and lyrics, he also composed for many artists all over the world. He was another Michael Jackson in Spanish. That's how big he was. We love you always. Juanga 🥰
He was closer to Prince in terms of being multi talented
Ive always thought of Juan Gabriel as Mexico's Elton John × Freddie Mercury × Michael Jackson all in one
Never thought of him as James Brown but thats a good one 👍
RiP JG
Yes!!!
Throw in a splash of George Michael for good measure. Juan Gabriel was everything!
El “Divo de Juárez” he was one of a kind, his voice, his performance habilities, everything about him was pure art
Just imagine how big this man’s music is. Marc Anthony’s Spanish music career didn’t take off until they released his cover of this song. The rest has been history for Marc Anthony.
And it's one of the best covers.
I always love to see non Spanish speakers react to Juan Gabriel. He is truly an inspiration to the music world
🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽💕
Now that you say it, I don’t think I’ve ever come across another artist that blended mariachi and orchestra groups like that!!!
@@tortillastardustthis masterpiece had balad, mariachi, a few tropical y oh my god! Rock! All in one!
Viva Mexico
I’m Cuban and remember my mother listening to Juan Gabriel growing up, also Jose Jose and others. He is an exceptional talent. Mexico has produced tremendous signers like Vicente Fernandez, Luis Miguel, Angelica Maria, Pedro Infante, Lola Beltran, and many others including my favorite Javier Solis. My favorite Cuban singer is Beny More, not as well known but was an amazing singer.
I’m Chicano, 41 yrs old and I love LOVE Benny More. Cómo fue, Mata siguaraya, mucho corazón. He was the king la música cubana.
Juan Gabriel was considered the Mexican Elton John! Always humble, always grateful, and sold out tickets on the largest concert halls in most spanish speaking countries!
As a Salvadoran but Juan Gabriel was one of the greatest composers of Mexico that has ever lived.. his music is simply amazing
Escucharlo cantar te enchinaba la piel .
Jamás habrá otro JUAN GABRIEL.
Never got to see Him.
Spanish is the love’s language; he oído eso muchas veces
I was in one of his concerts that he sang songs for 8 hours in front of the equivalent of White House in Mexico with about 100,000 people there! back in the 2004 . That was and amazing experience!! We love him for ever!
The GOAT of Mexican culture and latinos in general…
Man I’m a chileno that grew up in Australia, my parents and my family love Juan Gabriel amongst heaps of other Mexican artists but man this guy is my childhood, I get full emotional watching this performance. Glad you enjoyed this brother
Juan Gabriel is literally Mexico's most beloved artists! 🇲🇽
I love his songs "No Tengo Dinero", "Amor Eterno", "Querida" and my all time favorite is "Siempre En Mi Mente". 💖🎶
My childhood right here!!! Juan, Legend!! 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽
You think you know what a concert is until you listen to a Juan Gabriel one.
SO GLAD YOU APPRECIATE OUR MUSIC
It is Spanish, and the song talks about how he lived clueless and happy until he fell in love, then he knew about suffering, like he was taken for granted, he said i was happy, but with just a little love, yes the one that got away... Love your video and appreciation for the Hispanic culture. He was a great interpreter!
Thank u I was gunna explain it but u just did the guy reacting doesn’t understand that he was happy before he met her
This, this song hit ps more when you understand the feelings behind the song plus his performance 💯
Bro I am Puerto Rican but my grandma loved this man his voice just instantly puts you in a place of pain, happiness,or just pure emotion
AMOR ETERNO !!!!! DE JUAN GABRIEL
One of our best qualities as Latinos I think is our passion for everything. This song is soooo loved all over the world
You got the best version of his interpretation of this song. He is a Latino icon.
He is a Mexican Legend
Juan Gabriel = LEGEND!!!
Jose Jose was another big star in the Latino community. RIP to them both
One of the greatest ! JUAN GABRIEL lives forever.
