This technique can be applied and is commonly used in many CAD packages. Such as Autodesk AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor & Pro Engineer / Creo.
This is can also be applied to any engineering discipline, such as mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering where 3D is required.
