I remember listening to this song every single day for three months back in 2018 when my relationship ended. During the day, this song was the only thing I could think of. I would wait for the perfect moment to plug in my earphones and listen to this song. After three months, I met someone new (a rebound) and I overcame my feelings for my ex. Since then, I couldn't stand hearing this song as it called all the feelings back. I would never think that those feelings would eventually end, I suffered non-stop. After they ended, I assumed that listening to this song would bring everything back. But, no matter how much I listen to this, those feelings are not coming back. I'm guessing they're dead.
I'd love to thank Halsey and everyone who participated in the production of "Haunting". When nobody was there for me, this song was. Everything has passed and I can listen to this masterpiece freely.
Songwriting should demand the respect of an audience by use of its imagery to capture the essence of a feeling. Halsey is severely underrated for this.
