- The start to finish transformation of a stock ’88 K1500 Sierra into a lowered LS-powered all-wheel-drive beast. Truck Tech takes their K1500 4WD and slam it with a 4”-6” lowering kit. LT hoists the tired 350 from the engine compartment for a budget-conscious 5.3L LS.

Not everyone lives in rural areas and want to play in the mud all of the time and I've always wondered why people don't do this. This is a great daily driver in urban or suburban environments. Now, I wouldn't be rally racing it.

@@holeshot1721 I agree. you never saw Stacy driving anything. Just patching rust and a bunch of boring shit. I liked the Trucks series but it was just marketing fluff. I watched it on TIVO and it was about 5 min of content in a 30 min episode. Marketing kills everything.

Ive had ford and chevy and ford gave me so many problems. I kept it less than a year and got rid of it fast. My chevy lasted years.
Just bought a 94 with 54k original Miles in garage kept condition. So hype.
LT needs to go into business making those right hand diff mounts. He'd make a killing.

The smart thing to do is NOT swap the diff... use the 4wd lock-in, and if you are making so much power to the front that you start blowing up shaft couplers then get a custom solid passenger side output shaft for the original diff housing.... could easily be that the passenger side shaft from the SS diff drops right in, I'd bet a case of beer that it does.
@@Zaphod7835 They needed to get some heavy duty halfshafts instead of running those old stock ones which gosh knows how many miles.
@@Zaphod7835 i just thought about that as i watched this again. That passenger side axle shaft can be just bolted up the passenger side and bolt rite into the chassis without needing to fab up a mount and still use the new diff?
This is one of those builds that when it was first revealed so many didn't know what to think, and in the end this is one of those pieces that is absolutely amazing.
They give these guys full reign on what they want and I really appreciate it. Keep doing these guys

My first truck was Syclone #879 back in 1997. Bought it from the original owner. Biggest regret was selling it 20 years ago. I did track it down and found out it took a trip from NJ down to the Virgin Islands. Asked the owner to contact me if he ever decides to sell it
Just bought an ‘05 4WD Regular cab with rear locker option for $500.
It’s the perfect mule to do this conversion. And I am currently awaiting the arrival of the NV149 T-case.

This makes me really miss my K1500 based Suburban. My suburban was decked out with all the power options, push button, 4 wheel drive, dual gas tanks, a massive power converter system to drive 2ea 12" LCD screens in the back of the driver/pass headrest, a Sony DVD,VCR, Playstation 2, a 15" LCD hanging from the roof for row three to watch DVD/Blu-ray or play a 1st generation Nintendo. The back had a 3cup coffee maker, small microwave, small apt refrigerator, a Panasonic scanner/printer for my laptop in the sudo tailgate office with fold out table and camp chair. Mine was also lowered but only about 3 inch because I had 22 inch wheels. It had full running boards, factory roof rack, spare tire mounted on rear pass door. It had rear ended a simi truck and the entire front clip was swapped with one from and Escalade.
I'm impressed. This dude knows what he's doin!
I’m a Ford guy since I was a hid, but this build I love and it make me want to look into finding a F150 92-96 4x4 and see about doing a similar build like you performed on this Chevy Short box 4x4. I love the show and the ideas and tips are endless. Thanks Power Nation

I did that on my 20's but I swapped the 350 for a Mexican 400ss engine.
TransGo the transmission.
Upgraded the servo piston for a corvette piston.
And had it rolling on 245/50r15 bfgoodrich radial T/A

I'd love to see an AWD manual version of this! My buddy has one that's a factory 5spd & we were talking about this very truck.
Manual NV3500 that GM and dodge used in there trucks was not built for power. They were only rated to handle 300 hp barely. They also can't handle abuse either. Though the chevy T56 is a better trans for this situation or go with a older 4 speed Muncie prior to 88. Other option would be a ford with chevy conversion. Good luck.....
Be nice to do it with an nv4500. I swapped one into my Single cab short bed half ton. Thing can take a beating

I'm a sucker for an obs. First truck my father and I did a complete nut & bolt rebuild on. Swear i can fix anything on it blindfolded in the dark if i had to. Hands down one of my favorite builds ever and i'm counting all the way back to TNN, Spike & Stacy David days.

I had a '93 work trim long bed V6, loved the POS, 300,000 miles and hardly an issue.

The auto locking front diff is similar to my old Toyota Surf, deleted that vacuum operated Auto diff disconect, (ADD) by removing the actuator and sliding the dog across so it was locked full time and putting a hose clamp on the shaft so it couldn't slide back unlocking the diff,, then simply taking off the outer hub cap and installing free wheeling hubs,,,,, you have to do this mod to fit any sort diff locker,, in my case i installed a Auto locker,,, from Lokka(that is the companys name. LOKKA) here in Australia,, totally transformed the 4wd into a beast, no tracks it couldn't drive thx for the vids mate .. great content

LT's face and voice are a perfect match.
First vehicle I learned how to drive. Dad had an 88 Silverado/92 GMC Sierra hybrid. Had it for years. I later bought a 94 Sierra. Sold that to dad when his motor quit. Half a million kms and the oil pump quit. Love to find a nice one again. Make a nice lowered sport truck.
Now that's cool and I love it being a four-wheel drive and red and low

I've already restored a 1989 2500, 1994 1500 and now I'm working on restoring a 1977 Siverado. They all sit in my Garage.
My first car was a 95 silverado. And wish still had it. Thing was timeless.
This is one of my favorite builds. I wish I had bought it when you guys had it for sale. I would love to do something similar.

Love this build! As both an Audi Quattro owner and a 4th gen SS owner this is VERY interesting! Great job! Disappointing ending though, would rather have seen it carving up some twisty paved roads...
P.S. I’m assuming you can do this to a Tahoe as well?
They are all the same platform. Get a k1500 blazer and make a full size typhoon.
Just get a 2001 and up Z71 Tahoe with 4.10's..it already has 5.3, and 2h, 4h, 4lo with also AWD transfer case stock, plus better everything else.
I need that "driveway rescue" crew at my house!! My 1990 k1500 is tired and struggling big time..lol. trying my pull my boat to the river is tough for my ol truck

I'm watching him bolt the axle back in, and thinking "really? Stock?" if I'm going that far, I'm not gonna pass up the chance to add a limited slip in the rear. Eaton TrueTrac FTW. Had them in my Jeep Liberty (NOT TrashLoc, I installed them myself) and they were absolutely foolproof. Even with the AWD transfer case, LSD in the rear will make it much more fun.
More importantly, why wouldn't you get rid of those godawful drums in the back? Rear disc conversion and a bir-brake kit would make the truck inifinitely more fun to drive, not to mention safer. And having big red calipers behind those wheels would be perfect. I'm seeing a pattern of boy-racer oversights on this build. Go-fast upgrades NEED stop-fast upgrades. Brakes should be your FIRST upgrade, not an afterthought.
