The market is a big hit with yachties and has developed a reputation as one of the best places to shop! We have smaller butcher stores and farmers markets in Australia, but it's nowhere near the size of the Central Market - most Australians just shop at supermarkets that are the equivalent to Massy or PriceSmart.

I have always loved going to the Central market to buy vegetables and other stuff. I sometimes went to the San Juan market to the Tunapuna market. I've been know to go as far as the Chaguanas market. My wife always found that I bought too much! Your video is so enjoyable and I'll be in Trinidad for about 2 weeks mid May 2024. I'll surely look for Jerry's chicken and Jessica. Your video just brought back memories. Thank you so much. Great job.
After doing the Short I decided I wanted to do something full length to really try to do the market justice and share how great it and the people there have been :) Happy you enjoyed it!
Omg, i enjoyed this vlog so much. I felt as though I was on holiday on the island. Please do more vlogs of island life in Trinidad. Can you do a supermarket vlog?
Hi I just love watching you I’m a first time subscriber you are beautiful I’m from Trinidad I goes to the tunapuna market there you would also get everything fresh and now our fresh pigeon peas are in season enjoy your stay in Trinidad take care bye.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video, I'm hoping to release more about Trinidad moving forward :) I just searched the Tunapuna Market - it looks like a great spot!
Glad you enjoyed it! I initally planned to do that but unfortunately some things run out because they're so popular - I missed the big prawns this week! 😭😭. To compensate I bring the cooler bags and ice bricks with me which does the trick 😊
I have a beef factory. I put the bull, not cow, into one end, start the machine and beef comes out the other end. The good thing is that, if I don't like the beef, i reverse the machine and the bull comes back out at the beginning. And i send it back to the field. I don't use cow because for some people, it is their mother. But the bull can't be their father. So I use bull.
@@travelsketchyou would get lamb mainly in the supermarket and in other partts of the country with more of an indo muslim presence in those towns and villages.
Yep, I often get mine from PriceSmart (The Australian lamb leg tastes like home!) or somewhere like Massys or West Bees when it's on super sale. One thing I am on the lookout for is lamb chops 🥩
There are a couple of pork butchers who go every week. Occasionally there's some local lamb/goat (the beef butchers are the guys to talk to about that), but I've found most lamb in Trinidad is imported from Australia or New Zealand. We do buy the occasional Aussie roast lamb from PriceSmart (similar to Costco). No fresh milk at the market, but I have seen it at the Massy Supermarket. Milk (Fresh & UHT) is one of the items that tends to be more expensive.
We haven't spent much time in the US but have heard from other cruisers how expensive it has become! Our previous locations were Spain, Gibraltar, Croatia and Italy; some things are cheaper there than in Trinidad, but the fresh market produce in Trinidad is way better value than any of them 🇹🇹🍍🦐
@@travelsketchcouple years ago the prices were like 50% less, it was ridiculous we really had it good here...after Covid everything exploded..some things seem to be coming down these days but still fluctuate upwards regularly...I gather it's a world-wide thing.
Talking to people back home prices in Australia have risen too - what I pay for Australian lamb here from somewhere like Blooms Import is pretty much what they're paying in Australia which is crazy when you consider how far it travels to get to Trinidad!
@travelsketch was actually wondering about the lamb prices in Oz..Oh and you can get Lamb cheaper at Food Basket Supermarket Champs Fleurs, and they have all the cuts, .they're more East, your maxi-taxi men should be able to sort you out..probably 15-20 mins from Central Market up the Highway if the roads are clear..OK, keep well..
@travelsketch Massy stores and places like those where the groceries cost are high and they complain. They afraid they get rob. I keep telling them CM and NAMDEVCO market are the safest places to go.

Amazing video I can’t believe the prawns were so reasonably priced. Now I will have to visit Trinidad
That's for the big ones too! The smaller ones are about 35TT per pound 🍤🦐
Love this and am getting ideas for my upcoming visit to Trinidad in February. Thank you for sharing your experience ❤
Glad to help :)
Central Market is the best❤
Agreed! 😄
The market is stilll the same as when i was a child love going to the meat section
The meat is so good too, much better than alot of what's at the supermarket!
Clean, wish Jamaica had market's at least clean as this

So different to shopping in NZ! Where does the beef come from?
The beef is local and butchered by the guys selling it. It's a very different experience to Australia as well - much more enjoyable this way!
I think it comes from cow or bull

You could buy those prawns in Australia, they would just be 4 x more expensive and frozen.
