Played in bands from 1973-2010 and never used earplugs. These days, I can't hear anything over 9k Hz in pitch, normal conversation is difficult without hearing aids, and hearing aids don't serve me well in noisy environments. Use ear protection, my young musician colleagues!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow! I’ve got to say great job, I have personally tried the ER 20s, the erasers, and I can honestly say that you’re review of these was spot on. Furthermore, your sound example was very impressive, I’ve been watching a lot of videos lately, and this is the first one where someone has tried to actually create an EQ representation of what the sound like. The ER 20s were very crisp and clear but as you say they don’t reduce enough sound in loud situations, my ears were ringing after practice and they also fit very deeply into your ear canal making that a little uncomfortable. The erasers or great to look at, but they are difficult to find the right size. I actually bought the smalls, but I think the mediums might be better, hard to say. The sound profile was exactly as you described. They reduce a little bit more than the ER 20s. The sound runners look very interesting so I might try those next. Honestly, at this price point, I might as well just set up in ear monitors
Just so you know, Earaserz will swap the earplugs you buy out to a different size for the first 30 days. You just gotta pay return shipping, which you can use a flat rate envelope, cheap. Would highly recommend, the sound is incredible
How did you do the test samples? I've done a crude analysis (Audacity - Spectrum) of the samples and they seem identical. I.e. it's just the volume that changed. What's most interesting is how they differently cut the various frequencies. Please explain.
Hey, nice video. I have a question about Soundbrenner Minuendo. I often go to metal/rock concerts or festivals and I’m usually in the first row and my cheap earplugs do one ugly thing - the bass sounds of the kick drum are so amplified with the earplugs that all I can hear is a very ugly bass sound (like when you play music very loud on a bad speaker, sorry can’t find a better way to describe it). Then I have my Sennheiser PXC 550, which are headphones for music, but they have digital sound elimination when they are charged. It works much better than the earplugs, I can hear the guitars and the vocal really nicely with them, but that ugly sound from the kick drum remains and it kind of destroys the overall experience (however when drummers use nice attacky triggers with not as boomy bass, it really sounds nice) ... So I’m looking for a solution that can give me a nice sounding first row concert experience while protecting my ears. I’ve known about the Minuend earplugs for some time and I’m really interested in buying them, but since they cost quite a lot, and I don’t understand anything about frequencies and attenuation and stuff like that, I’d like to ask. Is it possible to adjust them with that "featured dial" in a way that would even up the bass frequencies so the kick drum sound wouldn’t be so disturbing and ugly sounding ? Thank you very much!
That's a good question and one I may not be able to answer perfectly. I have a suspicion that what's really giving you a hard time is being so close to the subwoofers. They're often right underneath or right at the front of the stage, probably where you're standing. Regular earplugs will bring down more high end and leave you with more bass which will only exacerbate that problem. Hi fi plugs like the Soundbrenners or any of the others will help in that they'll let in more high frequencies, but my guess is that you'll still get a ton of low end if you're up close right next to the subs. The variable attenuation on the Soundbrenners will let you dial in how loud/quiet you want it to be, but it won't do much for cleaning up muddy low end. Hope that helps!
Found the same issue with the Earasers. One way to go instead of exchanging is buy a "Renewal Kit" of a size up. My canals are different sizes so that's what I did. Two other options to consider are the V-Moda Faders which are a bit crisper sounding, which makes some people apprehensive about them as maybe it lets too much of the high frequencies in. And the Earpeace, which is a great deal because it comes with 3 different loudness filters at a reasonable price.
Loop Switch 1 & 2 has 3 attenuation settings and clicks when you switch them. Because they are cheaper than the Minuendo, they are higher on my wishlist. PS. I've had my custom molded musician's earplugs for 20 years, and it's time to get new ones in my 3rd year of Taiko playing (which is far louder than a single drum kit).
Hello! I'm a saxophonist from Romania and I need earplugs to protect against the decibels that distort my hearing, hearing everything a semitone lower at high pressure. I'm looking for something that won't completely block my ears and won't lose the high-mid range. what can you recommend to me!
I think any of these options are going to do essentially what you're looking for. I'd maybe start with one of the cheaper options then if it works well step up to the Soundbrenner Minuendos.
I'm a guitarist and when playing live I just want something that keeps my drummer from making me deaf💀. Would you say that the minuendos are prone to falling out your ear when headbanging? Cause that's pretty much all I do
Hm... I think that'll heavily depend on what your experience has been with universal eartips in the past. If you used the flanged ones before and they've worked for you, these should as well. Similarly if you've used the foam ones successfully in the past the ones here should work as well. They are slightly heavier than other earplugs though so keep that in mind as well. I'm pretty sure they have a return period so you could always pick them up and see if they'll work for you first.
Thanks for your informative review. I'm a guitarist in the market for a set of earplugs as my 40watt amp is fairly loud. I usually practice at around the 80db mark and would like to know if you think the fully open mode on the Minuendo set would be too quite to hear what I am playing for that level of noise? Cheers!
The Earasers sell a 2 size starter pack and they will swap out for a different size for free if you email them with proof of purchase, seems weird that you'd leave that out.
Interesting, I hadn’t seen that before. Just did some digging on their website and was able to find the 2 pack, but nothing prominently advertised about being able to email them and swap out.
I’m in the market for new earplugs and I really want to get a high quality concert experience!Considering the price and quality of the Minuendo, would you suggest them over custom made earplugs? I kinda like the fact that they’re adjustable but I wonder if the sound quality is similar! Thanks a lot!
Hard to say - never had a pair of custom molds but I don't think I know of any that have variable attenuation. Let me know what you go with, and if you do end up wanting the Minuendos make sure to use my code!
Never tried but I'd probably advise you to steer clear and just use regular foam range plugs or over ear phones. Unless for some reason you wanted to let in more sound or higher frequencies specifically.
Static magnetic field should have no effect on living tissue; even most varying fields would have to be very strong to induce electric currents in the brain

Good to know! That's very cool of them.
Was already planning on getting the Minuendos before seeing your review. Thanks for the 20% off!
Sweet! Glad it worked well for ya!

Hi Mike, if you jump to 12:34 I explain the methodology. Hope that helps!

Haven't checked out the Loop Switch - thanks!

@@ColeParamore thanks man, was a big help watching your video tho for sure🙏

Might be the opposite - I think you'll definitely be able to hear yourself. Thanks for watching!
sounds like you need a reactive load box if your just practicing.

How about eargasm high fid ?
I heard good talk about them
Haven't tried them, let me know what you think if you do!

I love your vintage dry drum sounds video. How can I contact you to chat about some drum samples? Do you have IG or FB?
Yep! Should be easy enough to find me on both. @coleparamoredrums on Insta.
Anyone's use this for shooting?

Thank you for that code🙏
No problem, feel free to share!
Earasers won't go as deep with the larger size....should take care of your issues.
I'd be apprehensive about having magnets next to my brain with the Soundbrenners.
I think as long as your skull is free of ferromagnetic material you should be fine. And even if it wasn’t, it’d probably help them stay in better. 😂
