    Living in stl here. If I ever saw two men coming out of the Mississippi with kayaks, we would all think you’re crazy because nobody goes into that water due to how disgusting it is😂
    I actually had zero idea that you could even kayak this thing.
    Thanks for the great video!

    I'm really enjoying this video series. I am doing the MR340 next year and I always thought that was about as far as you could go on a kayak. Your videos have opened my mind to do something much bigger. I do a lot of boating and kayaking on this stretch of river. I can't believe you made it through with all that flooding. I remember going out on a boat the day the river crested. I was just on the other side of Cuiver island and it was the scariest boat ride of my life!

      Hi John! If you plan on paddling on the Mississippi may I recommend joining the Mississippi river paddlers page on face book. By far the greatest resource I have seen on paddling the Mississippi. You know when doing the river in such a high flood stage I wondered if it was going to be safe. After being done I actually wonder if it is better than low water. More room to maneuver, most obstructions and wing dams were under water. Definitely pros and cons both ways!

    What was the company you got your umbrella through and again I'm enjoying the videos and the sharing of information

      I bought it off amazon but I wouldnt recommend this one as I had to constantly repair it. The push button locks for adjusting kept letting go causing the umbrella to fall one way or another.

      @@Dobrinich that would have been awesome! i started watching your channel because you were regularly covering the flooding which was obviously something i was following very closely before the trip

      @@escapewithjay yea I enjoyed covering the floods. The upcoming year maybe more of the same as the snow up north is already getting deep. So I may have more next year also.

      @@Dobrinich yeah i heard once upon a time that there is a natural cycle of heavy snow seasons between the east and the west. russia has been well known for their heavy snow falls and now they think the cycle is swinging back to the usa in the west. who knows tho, nature just does its thing and we get to watch... one thing is for sure, should be enough to keep you busy!

      it is crazy how much flooding you dealt with there! To think of that entire area of the mississippi rising that much blows my mind!

      @@escapewithjay it was crazy. My workplace ended up shutting down for a few month because of it! Hopefully we won’t get too much flooding this spring.

      Thank you Gabriel for the kind words! Good luck on the planning of your trip Ill have to look up the petawawa and ottawa rivers to see what you are talking about.

      The Ottawa is a pretty d*m big river with big rapids that are to be taken seriously. You need to have many years of experience in whitewater kayaking and a strong Eskimot roll which I’m still working on!! Thank u again for proving to me that this journey is possible and wishing me good luck fir the journey!!!

    Another quick question what was your weight loss on the entire trip would you able to keep up the weight or at certain times if you lose weight

    • @escapewithjay
      @escapewithjay  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I started at 190 and ended around 160. You burn a lot of calories on the trip. Many talk about how you get a free pass to eat as much as you want as you will likely burn it off the next day. I was running a massive calorie debt sometimes eating less than 1500 calories a day. Sometimes I just didnt feel like eating so I didnt. Boy do you pay for it the next day tho. There are people who figure out their daily calorie intake and estimated burn to keep it at a net zero but I didnt put that much effort into it
