What an exciting story, it had me on edge. I love the narration by Sarah and JD, may God continue to bless you and your family. Stay safe, warm, and blessed.
Sounds like that young fella outsmarted everyone. He got the girl, her father got the glory but that slick young man knew eventually he would inherit that fine saddle. He had set his mind to ride everything to his winner's circle. 🏆 Mountain people are sly like a fox. 🦊
While I surely love the stories and admire the people's grit and determination, I'm still glad I don't live there in those days. Women were so constrained by tradition and circumstance. Best rider I ever saw was my own instructor, a German lady who could take a horse bareback over a 5' fence. And I have a fairly recent picture of a young lady going bareback over a high fence as she aims her bow and arrow at a target. From what I hear, she hit a bull's eye too. Fact is, most women are better riders than most men. We're more inclined to partnership with the horse bc we suffer less of that general male urge to dominate. I'm 79 and my parents were *very* progressive for their era; but I still remember the first time I wanted to join Dad and my brothers in the garage to learn mechanics. Dad shooed me back in the house with these words (gentrified for tender ears): "Get back in the house and help your mother! You can already outride and outshoot your brothers. Leave something for them!" As an older adult now myself, I can see his point better than I could then; but it still hurt. I know how to keep tabs on oil and water and tire pressure but not much more. I wanted to beat my older brothers at everything! We were all proud of each other, but I should've been allowed to learn more.
Theres a lot to learn from what you just typed there, I will say this, without being overt in the stories, there are countless examples of women struggles, overcoming, and reality in these stories. These stories are aimed at teaching and educating in an entertaining way. But for those who pay careful attention, there are powerful messages and lessons embedded in them.
Enjoyed very much🖐❤💛💙🙂
