I would say one of the worst plays by the opponent 😂 - LSV could easily just have a pump spell. Not to mention even if he had removal they could just block with the Gimly to get one more draw. But the “full control” trick is good. Never thought about using stops instead of CTRL though. Probably works better if you are LSV and opponents are afraid even before mulliganing 😂
We passed multiple pelegrir surviors in the first draft, seemed like those might have been really good in the final build as are trying to splash all these foray of orcs
1:02:20 - LSV was dead on board (bats + the army leaving is exactly 3). Luckily opponent didn’t realize and attacked with bats only. It is funny how misplays sometimes cause you to win from an impossible spot.
I’ve found this happens often in this format with green being so bad. You get this solid pack 1 and then more and more people end up in the other colors and you start seeing diminishing returns.
[[Gandalf, Friend of the Shire]] is just insane. Just today I cast it to eat their [[Uruk-Hai Beserker]] just as the implicit 2 for 1 right there. And honestly, after I cast [[Torment of Gollum]] on their following draw step, I was shocked to find out that they didn't concede the game. How absurd is that?
For the 4 match, when you were considering gandalf and uruk play. Before conceding why not play the gandalf anyway? You would block with bilbo and it would die. Dying would trigger the tempting. Because you were the non active player your triggers would resolve first and you would draw before taking the ping from gimli. Messenger would still save you. Or did I miss something?
He also could have flashed in the Gandalf for a block. He assumed he needed to double block the Lancer but because it didn't get pumped and didn't have the ring he could have let it through.
Great Hall is actually better than an island in this scenario, I think, because it can also provide red mana for the two legendaries if you have only Swamp/Island out.
Yes, he had to use one creature to block the spearmaster, two on the lancer and one on gimli and would take at least 1 trample damage + 1 ping from gimli. If he double blocked gimli he then would not be able to block the lancer.

Maybe a silly question here, but how do you know the rarity of the card picked by the person passing the pack to you? I know to look for open colors/mechanics in drafts, and know/think(?) that the higher rarities start in th top row of the pack, but am not sure how to tell what was picked by the person before you. Thanks.
In a (draft) booster there are ten commons, three uncommons and one rare/mythic rare. So on pick 2 of any given pack you'll know what rarity the last guy chose based on what's not there. e.g. You get passed a pack and there's one rare, three uncommons and nine commons. You know the last guy took a common.
idk from what I saw in the game they also played v well. switching the ring bearer in the game against lsv was pretty big brained and played around his hand super well. I think the vast majority of people play right into that gollum card and potentially lose as a result.

I've had success with blue in stopping Fear, Fire, Foes - smeagol bounce your own targeting creature to fizzle the spell

Whenever you create or sacrifice a token, each opponent loses 1 life. Combat death doesnt activate bats
