Once again I saved this to watch on the 'off' Sunday because I like to anticipate things. I am not much of a stitcher (yet) but I was enabled by you two to buy the Floral Alphabet Sampler. If I actually complete it and it doesn't look awful I will likely send it to one of my sisters. I can see that it is beautiful but not quite my style although I am sure either of my sisters would love it. I also bought the kit because I know I will never spend the time in the store to pull the threads myself! Thanks ladies!

I’m looking forward to the BB SAL. I have very many charts calling for attention but I think the salute to Abigail will win. I’ve been in love with that one for a long time and kept seeing people working on it. I finally decided to stitch it and found it was in the BB book that I had. What a wonderful surprise. I’ve got it all kitted up and now I will get it started. Thanks for your videos. I always love seeing what you’re working on and your comments always make me laugh. I wait to see what the cuckoo clock will comment on too. Always feel better after watching your videos.

I would add to the bring to retreat discussion 2 more things: small 1st aid kit (I inevitably need a bandaid when not at home.) and a stitching safe lotion (My skin dries out in commercial buildings. ) My favorite is Gloves in a Bottle. It is safe around crafts once it is absorbed (about 5-10 minutes). It is fragrance free and hypoallergenic. It doesn't take much and you can wash your hands a couple of times before needing to reapply. 1 bottle lasts a long time. Thank you for your great videos. Blessings, Diane.
I love Gloves in a Bottle! I even gave it to my brother, a doctor, who washes his hands constantly and was getting cracks on his fingertips. Problem solved.
I was just watching your latest video about the masks at retreats...I need to order that thing you showed! I hate wearing masks so maybe that would help. I hope that we can have maskless retreats next year!
Gloves In A Bottle is the only lotion I use! I love the exfoliating effect. On very dry hands, the lotion actually will help roll off all that dead skin. Yup, sloughs it right off. Leaves your hands snag free……. Bright darker blue bottle. I buy the large when I can find it and fill the smaller bottle for my shoulder bag and stitching bag. We need to publicize this lotion! Get the knowledge out there!

Love catching up with you both every two weeks. You make my weekend. I have a golden anniversary cross stitch gift and quilt gift to finish this weekend but will join you next month for blackbird weekend. Planning on starting “For the Birds” as one huge piece.
So as usual I’ve been binge watching to “catch up” and Laura showed a sampler she was working on, I looked online and couldn’t find it. Then she says it will be available in August. I think “oh, that’s so far away I will forget!” Went to bed and it occurred to me it’s August! Now I will have to look for it again. Oh my. 😂

Laura you make me laugh with your time frames (wanting to stitch something for eighty years/a hundred years). Thank you needed some laughter. Will be working on Sewing Club or Winds of Autumn ... want to do all the projects in both books. Will be half way through a move and staying at a hotel waiting for furniture delivery.

I'm debating on 3 for the BBD SAL (although after watching now I have a couple more I need to look into lol) Being a newer stitcher I feel I don't have enough to display so I have been working on smalls. I thought Hats Off to Uncle Sam, would be a good one to start the monthly SALs off with....but then Basket of Cherries caught my eye and I could make it a small...but then Spell of the Moon called my name. One more suggestion for what to take to retreats, with lamps, a lot of places no longer allow plug in lamps, may require USB lamps. Laura, as an alternative to dunking that piece in coffee, have you thought about spraying with walnut crystals? I plan to do the over one personalization on my Anniversaries of the Heart, which is otherwise finished. From there, I will finish Lady Liberty, and then move on to Salute to Abigail. Were either of you in the old Blackbird Designs Yahoo group, where we worked on BBD projects every Saturday at 3 pm, and the group sent out a reminder every week? I may go back to doing that on the other weekends.

Oh my goodness, I had to stop every 2 minutes to search for a new (to me) pattern, shop, designer, etc. I was going to subscribe to your channel, but I don't think I can afford it. LOL Oh well, you only live once and my children (sons) have long known they will one day inherit my creative collection. Thank you for spreading the love to so many people. I especially love all the fabric you showed. The nearest needlework shop to where I live is 90 miles away.

I have yet to get to attend a stitching retreat; however, other crafting retreats I’ve attended I cannot live without lip balm and hand lotion. I’m a nurse, so my hands resemble bloody stumps from all the washing and sanitizing I have to do in 12 hours!! Putting some on at the end of the day, and taking a break during the day for lotion, will go a long way for your skin!! Of course, you do not put on lotion then pick up your stitching!! 😁 Laura, you started to talk about bringing extra linen and my mind went immediately to bed linens and towels!!! 🤣😂🤣 Sometimes at crafting retreats I’ve attended we had to bring our own bedding and bath towels. See what I mean?!? I need to go to a stitching retreat!!!

Laura, test a corner of your fabric in a coffee dunk. You could even stitch on the corners of the fabric before and after a coffee dunk. I love Flowers!! I’m just a beginning quilter and am considering trying the Flowers quilt. I’ve even sewed a project bag for myself for it in Lori Holt fabrics. I’m all in for Blackbird weekends!! @@brendaandtheserialstarter2410 Definitely will do that but they're not super complex: just a long-armed cross, a sort-of counted stem stitch, and eyelets - so they'll be super easy to explain in the booklet as well. I really need to sit down and do some proper tutorials. I've been saying it for ages but I've just been too busy :/ .... (excuses excuses I know...)

Okay - so I am stitching away on my focus piece for April (close to a finish of a page). I am gonna push to get it done by the end of this week soooooo I am going to treat myself and start a BBD! I have one kitted up (the Cardinal one whose name escapes me at the moment or I will see if I can get my Eleanor Rigby kitted up to start). And the first weekend of every month I will stitch on these two pieces with my lovely friends. You are both always so encouraging and inspiring and so very supportive of everyone in the industry. Black Dog Sampler is beautiful!! I also love the Flea Market Flowers - it's great to stitch whatever tickles our fancy and most of the time it is samplers for me, but every so often I get sidetracked. Thank you both for your videos. No matter what’s going on in my life, I always smile when I watch you two. I have a question. I’m working on the first Pineberry Lane club kit from dyeing to stitch. Thanks for enabling me. I love it but I’m running out of several threads. Would you please talk about how you stitch when using a kit so maybe I can figure out what I’m doing wrong? I start with the pin stitch and I use the entire length of thread but it doesn’t always work out. Thanks for all you do :)
Thank you Linda!!!!!! Are you using two strands or one? They figure the kit for one strand. When I used to stitch with two strands I had to buy more thread. Maybe your style of stitching uses up more thread...it doesn't sound like it but.......you may have to get more thread......... It is a gorgeous project!!!

LOVE Your episodes ladies. It's amazing how 2 very different people can become the best of friends I adore you both. My first SStitchMaynia, love BBD and have no idea still on which one to start or how to even 'do' stitchmaynia hope you can speak to this a bit today, May2 -- also question for Brenda...you have mentioned that you bought out a closing stores supply of 26 needles. Which brand was that...I'm also amazed that you start every project with a new needle. Wow I wish I could afford and stock that many needles. Now my question. You had also mentioned you use 'short' or 'petit' or 'small' needles? Can you please explain, who makes them and how do I find them they would be very useful for those last half inch threads to tuck in the back. Cant wait to see your show today!!! First I’m starting to obey the law of “buy all the Blackbirds”. Second I want to join the Blackbird weekend SAL but I don’t have all the supplies for one thing but more importantly this weekend will be taken up with family. I’m going to get to go see my Mama for the first time for well over a year (stupid pandemic). AND Saturday will be mama’s 88th birthday AND all 5 of my siblings will be there AND I’ll get to meet my great niece who is over 1 year old. So I may have to wait and jump in next month. Just finished binge watching all your videos. What a load of lovelyness. I have emailed y’all a question. It’s probably the stupidest question ever so didn’t want it out here public!!

Oh!!! Two more BBD books...what fun!!!!! It all depends on what count you like stitching on now.....if you are stitching on 28 or 32 then maybe try 36 count. It also depends on what linen brand you are using. Some are easier for stitching on higher counts (in my opinion). I like R&R and XJudesigns and Colour and Cotton for higher counts. Once again I saved this to watch on the 'off' Sunday because I like to anticipate things. I am not much of a stitcher (yet) but I was enabled by you two to buy the Floral Alphabet Sampler. If I actually complete it and it doesn't look awful I will likely send it to one of my sisters. I can see that it is beautiful but not quite my style although I am sure either of my sisters would love it. I also bought the kit because I know I will never spend the time in the store to pull the threads myself! Thanks ladies!

I’m looking forward to the BB SAL. I have very many charts calling for attention but I think the salute to Abigail will win. I’ve been in love with that one for a long time and kept seeing people working on it. I finally decided to stitch it and found it was in the BB book that I had. What a wonderful surprise. I’ve got it all kitted up and now I will get it started. Thanks for your videos. I always love seeing what you’re working on and your comments always make me laugh. I wait to see what the cuckoo clock will comment on too. Always feel better after watching your videos.

I would add to the bring to retreat discussion 2 more things: small 1st aid kit (I inevitably need a bandaid when not at home.) and a stitching safe lotion (My skin dries out in commercial buildings. ) My favorite is Gloves in a Bottle. It is safe around crafts once it is absorbed (about 5-10 minutes). It is fragrance free and hypoallergenic. It doesn't take much and you can wash your hands a couple of times before needing to reapply. 1 bottle lasts a long time. Thank you for your great videos. Blessings, Diane.

Gloves In A Bottle is the only lotion I use! I love the exfoliating effect. On very dry hands, the lotion actually will help roll off all that dead skin. Yup, sloughs it right off. Leaves your hands snag free…….
Bright darker blue bottle. I buy the large when I can find it and fill the smaller bottle for my shoulder bag and stitching bag. We need to publicize this lotion! Get the knowledge out there!

Being a newer stitcher I feel I don't have enough to display so I have been working on smalls. One more suggestion for what to take to retreats, with lamps, a lot of places no longer allow plug in lamps, may require USB lamps. Laura, as an alternative to dunking that piece in coffee, have you thought about spraying with walnut crystals? I plan to do the over one personalization on my Anniversaries of the Heart, which is otherwise finished. From there, I will finish Lady Liberty, and then move on to Salute to Abigail. Were either of you in the old Blackbird Designs Yahoo group, where we worked on BBD projects every Saturday at 3 pm, and the group sent out a reminder every week? I may go back to doing that on the other weekends.

I have yet to get to attend a stitching retreat; however, other crafting retreats I’ve attended I cannot live without lip balm and hand lotion. I’m a nurse, so my hands resemble bloody stumps from all the washing and sanitizing I have to do in 12 hours!! Putting some on at the end of the day, and taking a break during the day for lotion, will go a long way for your skin!! Of course, you do not put on lotion then pick up your stitching!! 😁 Laura, you started to talk about bringing extra linen and my mind went immediately to bed linens and towels!!! 🤣😂🤣 Sometimes at crafting retreats I’ve attended we had to bring our own bedding and bath towels. See what I mean?!? I need to go to a stitching retreat!!!

Laura, test a corner of your fabric in a coffee dunk. You could even stitch on the corners of the fabric before and after a coffee dunk. I love Flowers!! I’m just a beginning quilter and am considering trying the Flowers quilt. I’ve even sewed a project bag for myself for it in Lori Holt fabrics. I’m all in for Blackbird weekends!! @@brendaandtheserialstarter2410 Definitely will do that but they're not super complex: just a long-armed cross, a sort-of counted stem stitch, and eyelets - so they'll be super easy to explain in the booklet as well. I really need to sit down and do some proper tutorials. I've been saying it for ages but I've just been too busy :/ .... (excuses excuses I know...)

Okay - so I am stitching away on my focus piece for April (close to a finish of a page). I am gonna push to get it done by the end of this week soooooo I am going to treat myself and start a BBD! I have one kitted up (the Cardinal one whose name escapes me at the moment or I will see if I can get my Eleanor Rigby kitted up to start). And the first weekend of every month I will stitch on these two pieces with my lovely friends. You are both always so encouraging and inspiring and so very supportive of everyone in the industry. Black Dog Sampler is beautiful!! I also love the Flea Market Flowers - it's great to stitch whatever tickles our fancy and most of the time it is samplers for me, but every so often I get sidetracked. I am so excited about BB weekend and have everything/too many ready to go! It's such fun to see your previous stitches! Thanks as always and happy stitching!

Thank you both for your videos. No matter what’s going on in my life, I always smile when I watch you two. I have a question. I’m working on the first Pineberry Lane club kit from dyeing to stitch. Thanks for enabling me. I love it but I’m running out of several threads. Would you please talk about how you stitch when using a kit so maybe I can figure out what I’m doing wrong? I start with the pin stitch and I use the entire length of thread but it doesn’t always work out. Thanks for all you do :)
Thank you Linda!!!!!! Are you using two strands or one? They figure the kit for one strand. When I used to stitch with two strands I had to buy more thread. Maybe your style of stitching uses up more thread...it doesn't sound like it but.......you may have to get more thread......... It is a gorgeous project!!!

LOVE Your episodes ladies. It's amazing how 2 very different people can become the best of friends I adore you both. My first SStitchMaynia, love BBD and have no idea still on which one to start or how to even 'do' stitchmaynia hope you can speak to this a bit today, May2 -- also question for Brenda...you have mentioned that you bought out a closing stores supply of 26 needles. Which brand was that...I'm also amazed that you start every project with a new needle. Wow I wish I could afford and stock that many needles. Now my question. You had also mentioned you use 'short' or 'petit' or 'small' needles? Can you please explain, who makes them and how do I find them they would be very useful for those last half inch threads to tuck in the back.

First I’m starting to obey the law of “buy all the Blackbirds”. Second I want to join the Blackbird weekend SAL but I don’t have all the supplies for one thing but more importantly this weekend will be taken up with family. I’m going to get to go see my Mama for the first time for well over a year (stupid pandemic). AND Saturday will be mama’s 88th birthday AND all 5 of my siblings will be there AND I’ll get to meet my great niece who is over 1 year old. So I may have to wait and jump in next month. Just finished binge watching all your videos. What a load of lovelyness. I have emailed y’all a question. It’s probably the stupidest question ever so didn’t want it out here public!!

I have not done a medium to larger sampler, any suggestions on what to try and what linen count? I am ready but I am overwhelmed on where to begin, you both inspired me. Stay safe and well. Oh!!! Two more BBD books...what fun!!!!! It all depends on what count you like stitching on now.....if you are stitching on 28 or 32 then maybe try 36 count. It also depends on what linen brand you are using. Some are easier for stitching on higher counts (in my opinion). I like R&R and XJudesigns and Colour and Cotton for higher counts. Oh and Legacy linen 38 count would be good too! I just went over to IG and followed you....feel free to DM any questions. You can also try evenweave before linen as that will help you practice over two stitching. Also, start with something medium....save the large for later. Let me know how it goes!!! Great haul, ladies. I LOVE the new project bags. Laura, I saw some baby Yoda fabric. I laughed when I pictured you pulling one of the beautiful 1800 samplers from a baby Yoda project bag. Who says your project has to match your bag? Lol. Can’t wait for BBD weekend!
