I like that you're showing us. Just being a presence in the pastures doing what you need to do shows Carl that you're going to be there and that's that. Hang in there I think you talking to the guy that has ostriches is a positive thing.
He runs from Janky Jan so you can definitely gain dominance again. He seems to turn and walk away from you every single time you move toward him. Maybe keep repeating that in a nonagressive way so he gets it ingrained in his head that caretakers are kind but respected. He does NOT act dominant with the littles. Maybe overdo it with showing him you’re coming in ALOT… and then force him to see how kind you are with the others who accept you in there. Maybe even take a bucket and sit on it and start a routine of doing like a 5 foot tight feed circle so you have babies ALL between you and him. It created distance so he won’t be challenged… he is forced to see that dad is good… maybe throw the ring of food so you’re not holding any that will have goats knocking you over. Very routine. Walk calmly without fear… treats/bucket so you get low but are protected by perimeter of babies.

Lester, I know nothing about ostrich’s but it looks to me like Carl may have been abused by a man. My horse was abused by a trainer that wore a black cowboy hat and any time a man in a black cowboy hat would approach him he would get aggressive towards them. It was something he never got over. You may have gotten Carl because he was becoming too dangerous for the people that gave him to you.
He wasn’t abused, he was adopted because he was getting attacked by another male over the female. It might be a colour thing like how some animals-cats/dogs get freaked out by the colour black even black people
As a patriot of the elephant sanctuary, it can take a year of love to get an abused elephant to finally trust their caretakers, please don't feel any of this is a reflection of yourself, just be patient, do your thing with the others, ignore him alot, he will come around someday

I think you're doing awesome with Carl. Gotta try things till you find what works with him just like with every one of the babies. Trial and error. Don't feel bad for mistakes, if you didn't make any, you wouldn't learn those things don't work. I have no suggestions for you, but am avidly following your journey with Carl and am learning from your videos. I most likely will never come into in person contact with an ostrich but I do find all of this intriguing 😁
What Carl reminds me of is a child with challenges...one with a strong sense of being a protector. You being a teacher may have had to deal with a student showing similar characteristics?
Yeah. As much as I enjoyed watching Lester wrapped up like a Christmas present-Jamie was a good sport by not laughing-I don't think it's gonna provide a whole lot of protection against a bird that can kick though plywood!😬 BUT, if it makes LESTER more confident that's a good thing!👍😃 💖 🤘
Disagree, I have never posted before on this site but Lester definitely does not have fear...No fear when you own a 1500lb longhorn, period!!!!!...He just needed to understand behaviorally where he needed to put himself. You never walk into a room full of students and automatically know how to deal with each one until you have time to interact. Lester reached a point of no return with Carl, he really thought it through and went in with assertive energy no fear at all...Great job Lester! The best part was when you said Carl will have to move to another pasture while we are out if we cannot get him to assimilate. That is exactly what I have been waited to hear for the last 4 weeks. A back up plan.....
Carl is a great joy to watch he reminds me of the baby pig Trudy ! Reasons being you said many people were saying because she was born a wild pig and the fear of her instincts might kick in but so far with the love and protection of the marrow family she looks as she is at home never to leave her family at the farm. So I see if you can get the pig in time you will have your ostrich in due time it also reminds me of you other pig that was paralyzed you help him walk again. It’s your love and persistence that will overcome Carl . I’m rooting for you Lester . Thank you for your all your videos on all that you do , love you all 🥰
Oh Carl, you have a great family and new home. Your an social media sensation. Just waiting for your first viral video. Learn to be nice, and loving big boy. Enjoy your life.
I think Carl 🤔 really doesn't like it when you point at him. I noticed he tends to get more upset and aggressive when you point and "yell" at him. Just an observation. He may see it as an intimidation, and I know pointing and using your hands while talking is something we don't even notice that we do. (I am 100% a animated hand talker, so I totally get it Lester)
I have seen the same thing. Carl doesn’t like pointing. Talking with your hands doesn’t look good to Carl either. Glad I’m not the only one that sees this. Jamie is more soft spoken and doesn’t talk with her hands
So impressed! Been so impressed with this channel from the start. I love the “play by play” .,, and your patient kindness , mixed with solid assertiveness.
I was told by Safari guides in South Africa who guide in the wild that animals have a different reaction to male and female people , if they are on foot. So,Carl is normal. Isn't it great to know Carl is normal.lol
Bulletproof vest might be a good investment…. Love your shirt. Maybe a bell for Carl to wear, so you don’t have to look over your shoulder wondering where Carl is. Good luck!
Just saw this, wow Im not sure what to do to make him stop attacking, but at least he has never kicked yet, I think!! Seems to attack by mouth always. I have to say you all are patient, for sure. I think I would be looking into rehoming just to be safe & comfortable, but I hope you can achieve your goal soon. Sending love to all the babies, big & small.💗🙏🤗
Lester innocence is breathtaking, those birds can be lethal, but it seems to serve him well, as he is brave, he needs to go in with a rake and something that can reach taller that the bird. Those legs and claws are a terrific weapon, and the cardboard will be no match.
Even though this may seem a little funny to watch, it's not funny in real life. I was attacked by an Emu and it's kick caused a huge hematoma on my leg. Lester is correct, he must continue to stand his ground against Carl.
Nah. Any animal can suddenly attack another. Usually if you have an aggressive animal you would know it by now. So anything after that will be something not predicted. Smaller animals wouldn't generally threaten him
Hi Lester, I am a new subscriber to your channel. I don't know anything about Ostrich behavior but you seem to have a good plan with Carl. I never realized how big they are. Thank you for sharing Carl with us.

I thought you guys were INSANE for getting an ostrich. I was worried because they can be very aggressive and territorial. I really hope this works for you guys but you need to think about your safety. He’s scary!!
It's good to see you willing to learn from these kind of challenges! You're doing great! I love watching your videos and Rick's observations and advice. Carl is such a great addition. I am constantly amazed by him.
I think you’re more than capable of doing this. It’s not like he’s a wild animal from the plains of Africa. Obviously he’s not has domesticated as the goats but he’s been around people. I think about your safety every time you enter that pasture but he needs to learn that you are the grand protector.
Good job, Lester 👍 Needed done. You asked for suggestions......... All I can think of is maybe feed him from the same side of the fence. Claim his territory with the handing of food.

I came to this channel from Cog Hill Farm. That was hysterical with the cardboard shield. I love your videos
What Carl reminds me of is a child with challenges...one with a strong sense of being a protector. You being a teacher may have had to deal with a student showing similar characteristics?
He sees that paper wrapped Les as a burrito. Yum!
Yeah. As much as I enjoyed watching Lester wrapped up like a Christmas present-Jamie was a good sport by not laughing-I don't think it's gonna provide a whole lot of protection against a bird that can kick though plywood!😬
BUT, if it makes LESTER more confident that's a good thing!👍😃
💖
🤘
Carl already knows you have a fear, animals can sense it
Disagree, I have never posted before on this site but Lester definitely does not have fear...No fear when you own a 1500lb longhorn, period!!!!!...He just needed to understand behaviorally where he needed to put himself.
Thank you for your all your videos on all that you do , love you all 🥰
☕️☕️ Morning Lester, today is Mon.9/13, be Safe this week with storm a coming.
All I can say Les and Jamie…Wow and God love you for all patience with the babies small and Large
You are doing a great job Lester..Rick has some great suggestions..and you are thinking like Carl..
I was just thinking the same thing about the pointing.
Good luck!
Good work Lester.
Love the tee shirt Lester I would love one for my hubby! Carl is amazing we have to learn more about him!
Lester, with that cardboard you look crazier than Jane 😆😆
It like a knight of old donning his armor for the tournament! Sir, go forth to victory!
Just keep working on him, never give up😉
Just saw this, wow Im not sure what to do to make him stop attacking, but at least he has never kicked yet, I think!! Seems to attack by mouth always. I have to say you all are patient, for sure. I think I would be looking into rehoming just to be safe & comfortable, but I hope you can achieve your goal soon. Sending love to all the babies, big & small.💗🙏🤗
Clearly Carl doesn't know the rules of the game. 😂😂😂
I think this was a very brave move...and I'm with you...stay safe while conditioning Carl.
❤️🔥❤️🔥Long live LONGHORN LESTER🔥❤️🔥❤️
Good luck! Prayers! 🙏🙏🙏
Have you tried putting Carl back in with Tex, he may be less aggressive without smaller animals to protect.
That sounds like a good idea!
No! 2 dominant males that could kill each other...
Nah. Any animal can suddenly attack another. Usually if you have an aggressive animal you would know it by now. So anything after that will be something not predicted. Smaller animals wouldn't generally threaten him
Perfect definition of perseverence!!! Keep at it, it's working. You got this Lester!!!!
Hi Lester, I am a new subscriber to your channel. I don't know anything about Ostrich behavior but you seem to have a good plan with Carl. I never realized how big they are. Thank you for sharing Carl with us.
Lester you might consider releasing Janky Jan Lol 😂 Carl will definitely run away
You guys crack me up!!! I used pillows to learn ice skating when I was 5yr old. Love you guys
Lol Lester needs Jane as his guard to protect him from Carl
😄😄😄😄😄😄
Was thinking same. Janky Jan can be lesters side kick keeping Carl in check Carl runs away from her lol 😂
Keep up the good work Lester! I agree he has to know!
God bless ya! 🙏🏼
Lester you crack me up. Wrapped in a cardboard box. Where is your safety vest?😂😂. Improvising at its finest. Maybe you should layer all those 200 T-shirts that you get in your gifts and goodies, For extra added protection. So glad that you’re not giving up on Carl. Love your dedication to the cause!!!
Watch last gift and goodies what he got💪😎
@@melapredan6208 I know he got a vest for protection. Just wondering where it was. Plus he got all of those T-shirts as well.
LOL
The progress that you have made with Carl is absolutely AMAZING. Sometimes all it takes is using the silent method. I'm proud of you Lester and I Love You Carl.
I thought you guys were INSANE for getting an ostrich. I was worried because they can be very aggressive and territorial. I really hope this works for you guys but you need to think about your safety. He’s scary!!
I think his days are numbered.
@@lisaquigley-moon9583 Lisa, I don’t think Lester will give up easily, but, he needs his pasture back for sure. Let’s hope Lester wins this battle.
@@lisaquigley-moon9583 Carl's, or Lester's? 😳😁
@@lisaquigley-moon9583 as if being negative helps any of them...
Good job, Lester 👍
Needed done.
You asked for suggestions.........
All I can think of is maybe feed him from the same side of the fence.
Claim his territory with the handing of food.
Hi Lester,,,maybe try riding one of the horses around Carl and he will see you dominate a bigger animal than him and get back in his place. Just an idea from a concerned follower!
