    Dude thanks for this video! Does the potentiometer works on brushless motor?

    Wondering if plumbing putty would work there instead of silicone?

    I've always wonder if you could explain what percentage of battery you save if you running the trolling motor at 50% power, what are the amps drawn with and without a pwm Both running at 50%? i know at 100% power they both draw the same amount of power but the pwm its supposed to save battery so at 50% power how much power or amps are you saving, hopefully you understand what im trying to say .

      I'm struggling to find an answer to that. So without the money and time to experiment it would be interesting to know what anyone has actually measured? There's a million and one youtube videos saying 'use a PWM and save power.' They say the trolling motor losses heat to resistors at low speed and a PWM prevents this. Then there's videos saying how to protect your PWM from over heating. If the heat lost in the PWM is similar to that of the internal resistors in the motor then what's the point? 🤷‍♂🤷‍♂

      @@paps69shed very good point man i mean they say this that say that but no actual proof, make a video of motor pulling amps at different speeds with and without thr PWM

      @@rodrigoelgu I just had a watch of your vid showing your 55b trolling motor and your amp meter. Tbh it's one of the best I've seen. Clearly shows real world amp draw and speed involved. I'm new to electric trolling motors and had no idea of what i needed. Yesterday I ordered a 46lb with a 60ah lifepo4. It's just for a little mariner 3 and your you-tube vid has just made me confident it will be fine for my needs. You seem like the man who could finally bring clarity to the PWM debate 👍👍👍👍

    Are you sure about breaker placement? I thought the breaker was supposed to go closest to the battery to protect it from over current. You have it before the trolling motor. Thanks for sharing. I’m about to do my build.

      Yes you’re absolutely right! 👍 You want one in the front and one in the back just in case something goes wrong. The MinnKota Trolling Motor Power Center that I use has a 2 manual reset circuit breakers (10 amp for accessory plugs and 60 amp for trolling motor so that’s why I didn’t bother to put one up front.

    Is the switch and potentiometer it comes with both waterproof?

    • @gettingoutdoors256
      @gettingoutdoors256  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The speed switch is on the inside and I put silicone around that to protect it a little. The forward and reverse switch however is not waterproof but I have been through many rain storms and have also dropped it in the water a couple of times accidentally and it is still working. Had to open it up and dry it out because there was condensation inside for years of use and still going strong. So I would say it’s water resistant at best.

      Thanks for the response....thought about adding a locking nut and a o ring below but may not bother.....cheap enough to replace a potentiometer if required.

    Im having some trouble with the wire placement. Can you give me some tips on what colors go where?

    • @gettingoutdoors256
      @gettingoutdoors256  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When you cut the wire and use your ethernet cord the colors will not be the same, so you’ll have to remember what colors you were wiring together. For example the on and off switch is usually black and red but for your Ethernet cable it can be whatever color you choose just remember when hooking it up to the controller box that you’re going back to the right color. so If I use a red connected to a green then connect that green back to the red wire on the other side. It’s confusing because of the colors of the wires don’t match but keep it clean and focused and it will work out. sorry you’re having difficulties hope this helps.

      @@gettingoutdoors256 Is there a reason you cut the wires instead of just disconnecting the connector at the PWM? That is what I did with my first build.

      I have a 75 amp battery and I can troll around 6 hours of nonstop use with the 35 pound thrust trolling motor before having to retreat back to the boat launch. Four hours with the 55 pound thrust but you do get a lot more Thrust/speed and turning power with it over the 35 though.
