I honestly wish tillian stayed in Tides of Man instead of going to Dance Gavin Dance. Empire Theory is definitely worth the listen in full. The songs lead into one another very well. I would definitely give "create" from this album if you like this.
I highly recommended you check out their later stuff, they're fully instrumental these days. The production on their "Young and Courageous" album is amazing. Be prepared for all the feels
The singing style reminds me of Hail The Sun, specifically the singer/drummer Donovan Morello. I think you'd enjoy the song "Disappearing Syndrome" by them, kind of a hardcore slash mathrock mix.
I just found out about them last month and have fallen in love with their recent singles and the Mental Knife album. You're right about the singing being reminiscent of their singer though.
Oh hey you grew up around the same area as me, then! If you grew up near where Tilian did, haha. I remember back in the days of MySpace actually getting a message from Tides of Man to check out their music because they were local to my area, back in like 2006-2007. Super awesome band, glad to see you check em out. This is also my favorite album of theirs, every last track is a banger.
Another fun fact tides of man is now an instrumental band. They still have some energetic songs similar to this, but I’d say the song Eyes like Strange Sins is a good representation of their newer style.
Haven't heard of these guys, but I just recently got into this whole proggy/post-hardcore/mathcore genre myself after falling in love with Dance Gavin Dance. This sounds like a more mainstream and accessible version of that genre. I definitely enjoyed it as I think my favorite aspect of the genre is the combination of pop/rock (with general catchiness) with proggy and instrumentally virtuosic elements, and this definitely had all of that. Maybe it has less of the proggy/virtuosic elements compared to DGD at their most adventurousness, but I think the catchiness makes up for it. Definitely going on the list to check out further. I'm definitely someone who enjoys both high and low vocals, but it's more of an individual thing. There are vocalists on both sides I love and hate, it just really depends. I do probably have a slight preference for higher vocals given that my intro to metal/rock was classic 70s/80s stuff, guys like Robert Plant, Bruce Dickinson, and Rob Halford, and they all had higher vocals.
If you haven't read the comments, it looks like the singer left and the band is now an instrumental post-rock thing. I believe that's a win/win for ya :)
I really liked this one. Due to both the hardcore influence and the vocalist's tone I got massive TMV/Coheed vibes, in a less theatrical/more straightforward way. Quite mathy. Didn't these guys moved into post-rock realm tho? Becuse the name seems too familiar. Great insight as always, Bryan!
thanks Bryan, i thought you'd dig it. the whole album will not disappoint and the story it tells is pretty vivid at times...you can tell, i think that the next song picks right up from where this one leaves off. this band became my favorite ever at some point, stealing the title from chiodos back in ~2010. since then btbam has taken that role.
I used to hate high pitched "whiny" vocals, but a few bands gradually changed that opinion. Now it seems like all I listen to is high pitched "whiny" vocals.
Really great stuff - gotta check out some more! (I've got loads as well... there's other reaction channels I follow - although not as frequent - and there's friends' recommendations all the time and Spotify/TH-cam recommendations from the algorithms etc... A real "wealth problem"...)
They’re a really talented band. Tilian left but they’ve continued as a post-rock band. For me, Every Nothing is a FANTASTIC album and brings the listener on an emotional ride.
whoa that was awesome

Have you checked out Tilian's solo stuff? Some of his songs there have ToM vibes.
Yeah, it was sad he was kicked iut

Crazy how much Tillian has improved since Tides Of Man, and he was already SO good here

@@CriticalReactions You gotta listen to Wake then, or their secret wars EP, alot better then Mental Knife imo.

Love the composition. Awesome. And now I have a new band to check out lol. Thank you so much!
One of my favorite Tilian’s performances. So beautiful.

Yes, they have a post-rock vibe now. They’re amazing musicians c:
