Good timing - By-Tor from Rush in Rio will be up soon.
In the words of Geddy Lee: "it's time to let the dogs...out!".

I first saw Rush perform this song on September 16 1977. UFO and Max Webster were the opening acts. Great show.

Same here, his vocals in the 70s is definitely my fave, and listen to Pearts spitfire drumming in this particular version wow

Now this is the Rush I love. 74'-84'. No bathroom breaks possible in this show...

70’s Rush they played with wild abandon and raw intensity, loved it then, love it now. 👍👍

Geez that snare sounds like a machine gun in Neil's little solo sections... :)

And every drummer in the place was picking up their jaws off the floor.

You can see the Bytor & SnowDog versions evolve over time, all the way to the Exit...Stage Left show. Man! That version of Exit... Stage Left for me is the pinnacle of their improvisation skills.

That just rocked!! First time I’ve ever heard this, so that was great!! Question: you like this shortened version of this better than the studio with the 2 other sections in it? Be well and God bless… from Texas!!

I remember back in the day, Rush playing Bytor and the Snow Dog, like this recording they evolved out of it and into something else. I forget what. Marijuana and beer does that to people. 😂

This song, and this particular era of Rush - you notice how many times Rush utilise "rests" in their music. Also in Bastille Day, Anthem, Cygnus X-1. I loved this quirk of 70s Rush - playing around with rhythm and silence, call and response, etc.

I was lucky to enough to see them live back then when they came to the UK from the first time in 1977 onwards, great gigs.

When they played this as the first song of their encore during the Vapor Trails Tour and as shown on the Rush In Rio video, Alex is the one who had been wanting to bring it back for a while but the others didn’t want to as they hadn’t played it for over 2 decades. So they relearned it and you can tell that Alex plays some of the battle section a little differently than way back in the day. Still super powerful and awesome to see on the RIR concert!

Great, especially for an off night. "Off night." Okay Geddy, now you're just braggin'.

That was fun and I really liked Geddy's voice here as well. I have always liked this song.

J., I don't know if you have checked out the 81' concert from Montreal...the energy of that concert is insane. Great version of ByTor. I think bands get caught up in concert energy at times and will, often, speed up the tempo. I noted that on the Bastille Day rxn. Used to drive me crazy with Van Halen. Holy S., though, the drums are frenetic in this version!

Great! Exit Stage left is still a little bit sharper for me.

This is one of the songs I have to be careful with, or I'll overindulge and annoy those I love within earshot with unrelenting repetition. It would have been completely hopeless for me if this had been the ATWAS version. But I suppose that's what earbuds are for!

Tobes of Hades, lit by flickering torchlight
The netherworld is gathered in the glare
Prince By-Tor takes the cavern to the north light
The sign of Eth is rising in the air🤘🖖✌️🎤🎸🎹🥁🐕‍🦺🐩still like the ESL truncated version tho it just sounds so much heavier than this one

As much of a Rush fan as I am, I still struggle with much of their music before Permanent Waves. Hemisphere is awesome but I tend not to listen to those records that much. I'm still stuck on everything between Permanent waves and Power Windows (The PW period!!!). I like Hold your fire and Presto a lot but the sweet spot for me is still PW and PW.
