I've got the same model. I brought it brand new when it came out. Sadly the cassette player needs some attention to get it working again. It holds so many memories, and I can't bare to throw it out. I'd loved it to be repaired. The motor inside it still works, and the gears engage. But doesn't move the cassette reels. Everything else still works on it.
The deck is ru-1 mechanism and some gears inside are braking to pieces. I have a philips boombox d8254 with the same deck, and i found a set of gears from a guy in poland who makes them. I fully repaired it and now it is singing again like new.
Yes, this radio has a very unusual cool design, I love it too, I also have one with full functionality, it has become very rare to see one in recent years, I particularly liked how the CD version of this Philips was ''tested'' in the James Bond film The Living Daylights ;D
80s boomboxes are becoming collectables now. Been so long since I used mine, we all listen to our stupid phones now !! Time to bust out the Sony and the Magnovox!!
