ah, i recognised it straight away. about 30 years ago would pop in for a drink or a meal. what i recall most was that kids were not allowed in the bar. on your left as you go in there was a small area for the kids to drink and a game of table skittles to pass the time. memories!
Since you're in the Vale, you have to try The Blue Anchor Inn in Aberthaw, near Rhoose. Its long history, complete with local legends of a hidden smugglers' tunnel, goes back to 1380.
Hello from the States. Enjoying this series of videos. A little history, beautiful scenery and plenty of food. I didn’t see sausage and mash on the menu. The Welsh lamb burger sounds tempting. A good place to have a nice Sunday noon meal on a cold wintry day. Stay safe and be well.
Not sure if they did sausage and mash. It was nice sitting next to the fire, think of all the people who must have done the same in that pub over the centuries.
Hello from Calaveras County and many thanks for your relentless walks and pub tours particularly of the Vale and the many places like St Hilary. Wales in Winter is very charming, it is a land that reminds me of the rugged coast of northernmost California. The pub menu and food look worth a try.
Hi Marcus, how are you? Awesome live video I enjoyed it can't wait to see more next week. Interesting pubs in Wales. Have a great day see you next video greetings from Canada 😀
nice little video that interesting about that owner of beaupre castle being buried there i wonder where that outlaw is buried and as for them pub meal price i know costs have gone up but bloody hell look at them prices !
Aww lovely! Interesting info about the bushes too. Our regular when on holiday to visit my home town of Porthcawl, is The Horseshoe at Marcross, as it's on the lane where we stay.

What a delightful pub. I couldn't help but notice that Cllr Aspey looked particularly put out by the fact that there wasn't a battered sausage available on the menu. I share his disappointment.
My first travel outside of the United States back in 2011 we did the England and Wales coach tour. While walking through London, we happened to pass through the filming of one of the episodes of Sherlock the series. I think it was across from Saint Barts.
The people running the bush i have delt with for years as i was a butchery Manager,Andy (we seen him for a sec in the vid) and his lovley wife Liz are great at what they do,ive also gone thro a lot with them from the death of Jack their chef who sadley got killed during a bike ride with andy to seeing their faces when they had to close at the start of covid im going to enjoy these vids.
We hope to show some more local pubs, we hope to show them off and all the good things about them as it's pretty hard for most small businesses at the moment, especially in food and drink. Didn't know that sad fact you mentioned.
The first pub we went to: th-cam.com/video/dy2ZQgH5KfE/w-d-xo.html

Pop and crisps for the kids.

@@flydriveexplore that's another haunt worth the visit, if not purely for the history of the place. love the videos, love the Vale.

Hi, yes there are a lot of these old village pubs dating back hundreds of years.
@@flydriveexplore that's amazing. In Canada we have alot of 100 year old pubs.

Looked nice and cosy on a cold winters day. If your in the area try the King's Head at Usk. We'll work a visit.
We will keep it in mind
You’ve sold me. We are planning a trip from Canada and when seeing the menu, it is definitely on our list.
Hope you enjoy your trip.
Great video as always - food looked awesome despite the wintery weather.
It was a cosy pub especially when it was snowing.
Very interesting video !
Cheers.

I'm sure they got a couple under the bar and available if you know the secret sign.

Yes, they filmed in London and Cardiff, the production company were based in Wales.

@@flydriveexplore yep think it was around 2017 taxi driver fell asleep at the wheel went straight into them,he was a really nice lad.
Food looks nice but a bit skimpy on the chips though.
They may look small on camera but were a good portion.
Our trepid explorers entering the hinterland looking for Welsh Valhalla
Not so good now.

It was good when we went.
I didn’t mean the pub,I’ve never been there.
@@terrycollett1461 Terry, what did you mean by your comment? Thanks

I'll settle for a bag o' chips!
