What a busy week! I can't wait until you're raving about how easy it is to do a lining 😂 I see what you mean about the "jeans" - I've had pants fit that way when I try them on in the store, and I just put them right back. But you always find a way to make them work. Great save on the pink dress! You'll wear that out! Have fun this weekend. Hope you get to work on the quilt - xoxoxox
I always seem to have busy weeks Jen?! I just get random thoughts and go off plan all the time 😂. I have to say I have spent all night trying to work out this lining and I will not EVER rave about this one, I have had to come away from it before I tear it all out!! I think it will be great when and if it is done. Chris in his ignorance thinks the 'jean's are ok so I will get away with wearing them at home anyway, they are super comfy if nothing else, I could even do Yoga in them 😂😅.
Thanks for watching and missing you all so much now. Hope all is well with you 💗😘💗
Awww So sad about your denim trousers! They don’t look that horrible to be honest though. Love the pouch and the mitts. That fabric is just so perfect for oven mitts for you! The new fitness top is fabulous - that embroidery is super fun! Great save on the Southbank sweater. I did love the dress on you, but I’m glad you now have a sweater you’ll wear and love. Can’t wait to see the lined jacket!! Thank you for the pictures at the end! Xx 💞
Thanks Izzy, Chris said they look ok but what does he know?! They will have the perfect use for something just not sure what yet! I love my Pooh Mitts but I really hope I don't get grease on little Piglet 😱. I am wearing the sweater as I type this actually and I am SO glad I changed it. I was never happy with the red dress to be honest so yay, now I have a sweater I love! That lined jacket has given me even more grey hairs this weekend but it is finally finished. I have had a weekend of sewing things I don't like 😂😂. Hope your sewing weekend is going better than mine! xx💗
Sounds like you made a lot of good memories. I bet you end up liking those jeans. They will be like wearing your pjs all day.
We really did make some memories and most of all it conjured up so many happy memories for my parents for times gone by! You are probably right about the jeans, as I said in the video, I should know now if I say I won't like something...I end up loving it! Thanks for watching 🧵😊
Carole, thank you for telling us about Diann we love her so much. The devastation is heartbreaking.
I am so glad I was able to pass on the info that I had. I have exchanged further emails with Diann and she is well but no power, water or internet still. It will be a while for her I gather. You are right, Diann is just the sweetest of ladies isn't she, so genuine and kind.
Thanks for watching and I will pass on that you are thinking of her xx🧵😊
Your piglet oven mitt is so cool! 😎
I know....isn't he the cutest? I hope I don't get grease on him 😅. Hope all is well with you xxx
I am so happy you were able to save those garments. Those saves were great!
Thank you so much Marcia, it is great when we can save garments rather than getting rid of them or just having them blocking up the wardrobe isn't it! 🧵😊
Hooray for being able to enjoy the pretty gingko print knit!
Funnily enough I am wearing it right now whilst I am typing this!! I am honestly so pleased I shortened it into a jumper. Thanks for watching as ever 🧵😊
The jeans do look very comfy! That is one thing I have not attempted! I want to though! That museum reminds me quite a bit of a the Carillon Historical Park in Dayton, home of the Wright Brothers! Have a good weekend! 🥰❤️
Thanks Nancy, you are right the jeans are definitely comfy! That museum you have sounds so interesting and home of the Wright Bros? Wow! I was wondering as the name is Carillon, does it have a bell tower like the one in Florida? Just a thought. Have a good weekend too 🧵😊x
@@socarole66 Yes, it has a bell tower! It’s decorated with lights at Christmas to look like a Christmas tree! 🌲
@@RunningWithScissors-th8jo oh wonderful, I did think it may have. As you say, it must be lovely at Christmas xx
Hi Carole! You know, someone once said, “we learn from our mistakes “, I think that is so true, for me at least, so don’t beat yourself up about it 😅. Those Walmart fabric bundles are so tempting, aren’t they? I have found so good fabric, occasionally, but not for a long time now. Those P’Jeans (pj’s and jeans) will be so comfy around the house. To stop the bleeding of the fabric, wash them again in warm water with just white vinegar, a good bit, like a quart, or liter, as you say. That has worked for me in the past. I love the pictures at the end, that museum looks so interesting. Have a great time at your holiday home. Take care😊
Hi Sue, you know when you think, come on now you should know better than this.... and you didn't 😂. 50 years of sewing and I still trip up! I think I have been lucky with that Walmart fabric, both of them are really nice and sew well but I know what you mean. Some I looked at were not great at all!
P'Jeans.... great term as that is exactly what they are, as I said to Jen, I think I could even do Yoga in them. Thanks for the tip on getting out the excess dye from the jeans, I will try that. Hope you have a great weekend and thanks for your help 🧵😊x
The boys are so sweet, they had their pancakes! Great sewing week!
They did indeed get their pancakes, with Nutella and Aunt Jemimas Syrup!! Thanks for watching 🧵😊
You had a very successful week considering you had the boys there! Smart move to turn the Southbank into a jumper! 🎉 sounds like you do ALL the fitness routines, running, yoga…. No wonder you are in such great shape. Speaking of which, the jeans look really cute on you! Lobw the pics at the wnd, eapecially all of you on the big rock! Have a lovely weekend my dear friend!❤
Thanks Trish, I have no idea how I did that much sewing as I was also away with my parents for two days 😂. I have no idea why I thought that the red sweater dress was a good look on me, it is far better as a jumper! As for my fitness, well I used to do far more than I do now so the weight is piling on....I blame my bad arm 😂. Aww we had such a fun weekend with those boys. When we took that photo we did 10 sec delay so I only had 10 secs to run and jump on that log, I only just made it 😅. Hope you have a good weekend too, miss you 💗💗💗
Thank you for thinking of your American friends. I appreciate your thoughts and prayers. I'm sorry the Burda pants in the stretchy jean material didn't turn out like you wanted. However, your other makes look great. Love the vest and the top you are wearing.
Oh Cynthia, when I see the footage on TV from your area I just can't believe the devastation. You know we love your area and it makes us so sad to see everyone's homes disappearing and the damage. So glad you are well and safe.
Don't worry about the jeans, they will find the perfect use I am sure!! Thanks for watching 🧵😊xx
I missed this video last week so glad I got to catch up now! What a lot of lessons! You managed to salvage everything which is great! The yoga top looks wonderful! I often mislay patterns and it’s so annoying 😂😂 what a lovely time with your grandsons and your parents!!! Have a lovely week!
No worries Rachael, you are quite a busy lady! You know how I moaned about those jeans? Well I keep wearing them 😂. I did have a good week despite my moans and did you notice I didn't complain about binding the oven gloves?! Who am I 🤣. Have a great week x
@@socarole66 hahaha I’m so proud 😉
Busy, busy week for you 😁😁. I love the oven mitts and the Pooh fabric, you’re right, it’s happy. I absolutely love the dress turned top. It’s perfect. ❤️❤️ Don’t be afraid of lining your jacket, it’s easy. Be brave, you can do it 👍🏼
Thanks so much for your comments, I just love my mitts!! I have had a stressful weekend with the jacket but it is DONE. Lots of struggles, reading and re reading those instructions 😂. Your comment must have given me positive vibes! 🧵😊
Yes Carole, it's very heartbreaking. The devastation is unbelievable. Prayers to all affected. 🙏 The jeans style you made are called "relaxed fit". Very nice! I love them.💝 They look great. Wear your converted comfy sweatshirt with it and drink a hot cup of cocoa! So great to have pre-quilted fabric. I need to add some to my stash. Your vest and bag are beautiful! I understand how the oven gloves make you happy. They are sweet! Gorgeous embroidery!! No one notices the spacing of the letters. Looks perfect! What top pattern is that? I've been using my cover stitch more and more now because I'm sewing knits. I love the dress converted to a top!! Genius! Looks great on you. I'm dying to make N6545. I need to find fabric for it. I can't wait to see yours. We all learn sewing lessons everyday. That's what I LOVE about sewing. Have a great weekend. ♥
Hi Grace, yes, relaxed fit really does suit those jeans! So relaxed 😴💤
I am so pleased now I have chopped off the bottom of the sweater dress, when I looked back at the video, it just looked wrong on me. Such a shame I didn't see it when I made it.
Thanks for being kind about the lettering, now if I had a big hoop like yours it wouldn't have been a problem! The top was the Lago Tank by Itch to Stitch, a freebie pattern which luckily doesn't have many pages to print. I am battling with NL 6545 but for you, it would be a breeze!
Thanks for watching (and for the chat earlier!!) xx💗
@@socarole66 Thanks Carole, I appreciate your help in connecting with Diann. You truly are a treasure. Enjoy making the jacket. I would make it too but I'm still looking for fabric. Have a great weekend!❤
That happened to me on the jeans. I had to lop off 4 inches off side seams. They are now on a boil wash 😂❤
Ha ha that is hysterical, glad it isn't only me! I've done that pattern so many times and they have been skin tight 😂. Thanks for watching 🧵😊
Looking forward to the oven gloves video. They will make great Christmas gifts. 🎁 As always thanks for being SEW INSPIRING! 🧵🪡
It is about the time of year we have to start thinking about Christmas gifts isn't it!! I hope you enjoy the video and it makes sense to you when it comes out next week. Thanks for watching 🧵😊
It’s so devastating what’s happening down there- sending good vibes to all affected ❤️❤️ you were so productive this week! I have a creaky chair at my new office 😂😂
Love all your makes! The vest and pouch- what a match! Hope you have a great weekend! Xx❤❤❤
Hi Mary, it truly is so awful seeing the footage and hearing the stories isn't it.
How funny your new office has a creaky chair, you need to take in some oil and I need to do the same with my chair 😂. Thanks for liking my makes, even my saggy jeans! Hope you are having a good weekend too, we are chilling in the holiday home xx💗
Lovely makes as always, Carole. Love your tank. I totally get it re jeans. It's hard to judge how fabric will behave.
Can't wait to see your jacket.
Thnaks Agata. I made a huge mistake with that denim fabric, I should have just made leggings with it 😂. Never mind, I will still wear them, nobody ever sees me anyway!
Enjoy your weekend 🧵😊
Another great vlog Carole, thank you. Love that you show us your sewing experiences ‘warts and all’. Gives a very honest picture of the ups and downs we all have. xx
I am so glad you enjoyed the video. I like to be honest as like you say, sewing never goes completely smoothly does it?! You wait until you see my jacket results...I have stressed over that thing all weekend 😂. Thanks for watching 🧵😊
Thank you for thinking of us in the Carolinas. I am not a You Tuber but am a sewist. Cynthia summed Helene up very well.I just keep thinking of the word “scattered” to describe our area. My home is still intact and for that I am thankful. There was no sewing with no electricity but to keep sane during this time I cut out several projects and cut out dresses for “Dress a Girl” to sew over the next year. It helped me from letting the anxiety about my surroundings in check. Charlotte was not hit so Frocktails is a go for us still. Love your channel!
Oh what you have all been through is never far from my mind and I do keep updated on your news. I have been swapping messages with Diann and I was so glad to see a post from Cynthia. I am so glad that your house has been spared and that you have found a way to continue your hobby even without power!! How wonderful of you to get ahead for next year's PDAG 👏🏼. I am glad Frocktails is still going ahead as Izzy is sewing the best dress for her daughter, you are all going to have so much fun. Thanks so much for watching and stay safe 🧵😊
I think the jeans would be comfortable pant to wear on a car trip. Kind of loose but a big step up from wearing sweat pants. They look great on you. Nice to hear you had some wins this week. Love the Winnie the Pooh oven gloves and the cute bag from your vest leftovers. Great save on making the dress into a top. We were fortunate with the weather. We were pretty much just outside the hurricane area. People from Tennessee, and I'm sure other surrounding states, have really come together to bring supplies to those who lost so much. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. Have a great week and thanks for sharing.
Thanks Carol, you are right those jeans will make the perfect travel trousers. They will be comfy yet smart looking! It was good to have some wins after those trousers. I am going to need some wins this week coming as I have had a weekend of stressful sewing!
I am so glad you are safe and didn't suffer any damage. It is so devastating to see so much destruction and damage but as you say, the positivity and community spirit really is a wonderful thing. I was so glad to hear from Diann today, she is well but no power, water etc but is just thankful her house was saved. Thanks again and I wish you a good week too 🧵😊x
Glad you are now able to wear the Southbank.
Thanks Christine, I should have gone with my gut instinct shouldn't I?!
Another wonderful video Carol, especially loved the living museum.
Thank you so much. My parents had a wonderful time reminiscing at that museum, I realised just how old they were then!! Have a good week 🧵😊
Love the variety of your makes. I'm inspired to make oven gloves. Mine are ancient 😅
Thank you so much Anne. My gloves were just disgusting but I used my new Disney ones tonight and they worked a treat! Have a good week 🧵😊
Carole, The recent storms in USA has been unbelievable! We never think about hurricanes doing catastrophic damage so far inland, but it does happen. This is the worst I’ve ever seen.
I love your now top from the once dress😊 My anniversary is coming up and we have a short get-away planned.
It is truly devastating for everyone affected isn't it. As you say, all the emphasis was on the coast, it always is sadly. I suppose it is inevitable that if a storm reaches as far inland as a place with so many trees and large rivers, it wasn't going to end well. Fingers crossed recovery can be made soon.
Happy Anniversary to you, have a wonderful trip away. It is our 36th Anniversary on Tuesday, October was a great month to be married wasn't it! 🧵😊
@@socarole66 Happy Anniversary! I loved my fall wedding😊
Adore the yoga top😅
Lovely pics with the boys. I'm looking forward to the oven mitts as mine are pretty much worn out ! Have a lovely week !
Thank you so much and I am glad you liked the photos. I love my new Mitts and hope they don't get grubby! Have a good week too 🧵😊
Hi Carole! I've been a little M.I.A. here lately because William hasn't been feeling well. I haven't done much of anything or gone anywhere for the past couple of weeks. Thankfully, he's feeling better now so HERE I AM!! LOLOLOL...Oh, those jeans! I have a feeling that fabric might always loose some of that blue dye with every wash. Look out! The store you got that at sounds like our Hobby Lobby fabric area. Their fabric is not too good BUT you just have to keep in mind that "you get what you pay for".
What has happened in the North Carolina area especially is absolutely devastating. So much destruction from flooding! I hope and pray for the safety of the people in those areas yet. The storm may have passed but their difficulties continue.
Hi Deb, so sorry to hear about William. I am glad to hear though he is on the road to recovery. I can't imagine you have felt like doing anything.
You are right about those jeans and I am going to have to watch what I sit on as well!! They need a few washes before I wear them I think.
It is so sad about North Carolina isn't it, just awful to see the destroyed homes and roads. I hope they are getting all the help from the government they need.
Have a good weekend and all the best to William x🧵😊
Did you see where Katinka posted that she got in touch with Dian of Silver Threads in NC? She's ok but no power, etc. It was so good to get the update!
@@DebsWay yes it was strange. I messaged Diann the other day then had a reply from Katinka! Diann had seen my message but couldn't respond until the next day. It was good to hear from her directly xx
Just recently found your Chanel, thank you.
I love the South Bank
Pattern. Have made made many iterations. I like the fact it has some shape and a waist unlike the Billie which I find shapeless. I've made the cropped version with a band on as too short for me, 4 of those I think, the next one with and without band 2? and then the dress. I'm just under 5ft 4 and wanted it more as a tunic to wear with leggings so shortened it and then added the band.have made 2 of these! I have made as a dress without the band, just turned up hem. It sits just above my knee. 3 of these. My only problem is I have to be sure there is enough stretch in the fabric as I find the opening a little tight to get on, fine when on!! Sure the dress would be fine if you perhaps graded to next size at the hip. Look forward to your next post.
Thanks so much for your comment and finding my channel!
Wow you really are a fan of the Southbank and made the most of its versatility. Funny as I type this I am wearing my shortened version 😂. You are right, it has far better shaping than the Billie. I always forget to adjust for me being short waisted so that didn't help where the indent went! I will definitely make the pattern again and I think if I adjusted it and had a different colour other than red I would have been happy.
Thanks again and happy sewing. 🧵😊
Love your oven gloves! I really want to make some.
Great job to make the southbank something you will wear because the fabric is beautiful. Love your Lago tank. I have the pattern, but haven't made it yet. Have a fab weekend, K xxx
Thanks so much Kelly, you are always so kind! The Lago Tank I loved in the end, especially the second version I made where I extended the back for a 'normal' tank. Straight out of the packet though, it makes great workout wear.... for when your ankle gets better 😂. Have a great weekend 🧵😊
@@socarole66 🤣 not sure I will ever exercise again 😂 xxx
Nevermind we are all still learning love the oven mitts will have to watch well done on yoga top fabulous alteration looks great trying new patterns in my stash alot of fun really enjoyed your video have a wonderful week 😊😊😊
I have been sewing since I was 8 and I never stop learning 😂. Thanks so much for all your comments on my makes this week and glad you enjoyed the video. Enjoy your week too 🧵😊
I love your videos they are never boring. Your just a natural at it
Thank you so much Pamela, you are just so kind! x🧵😊
Thank you, Carole! The destruction and devastation here is unimaginable - parts of Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Virginia have all been affected. Your kind words are very much appreciated, and mean so much to us! 😘💗
As you say, it is hard to understand the devastation and the long lasting effects it is going to have but, in your Southern States, the people are strong and resilient and will recover in time I know. I do hope your son and family are safe and well. Take care y'all! xx💗
I've just had my Lago Tank printed (I send off for A0) but it will wait for next summer now. I hadn't actually spotted the racer back, but I suppose it can be adjusted. Although I have made a tank top as a summer PJ top from another free pattern, and that was fine. I think your jeans look nice. I would be happy with those, as I never tuck tops in anyway. I have made a couple of pairs of trousers with elastic waists, one just the back and one all the way around and they are so comfy. I bought some stretch denim the other day but it doesn't seem to have as much stretch as yours so hopefully it will be OK. I'm not going with the whole jeans palaver with top stitching, etc, I don't think, just a plain trouser made from denim. I was going to make the Nina Lee Southbank dress last year but my sweatshirt fabric didn't have much stretch so I just did the top as a tester - it's OK and lovely and warm, but I can't even push the cuffs up if I get a bit hot!! Yours does look better as a top. I am currently gathering (buying !) warm fabrics for some cosy makes - late to the party as it's already bloomin' cold here in Yorkshire!
Thanks for watching as always. The Lago tank is definitely a racer back but easily fixed, I did it last year. Now if only I could find my original pattern!
I am loving my shorter Southbank top and mine was made in a French Terry but as you say, for the cuffs it could do with a little more stretch. They are ok but I know what you are getting at!
Hopefully the denim you bought has less stretch than mine although it does make them super comfy! Good luck.
Have a great week and thanks again 🧵😊
Hi Carole, thanks for sharing all your sewing experiences this week! 😘 That is a pip about your Lago Tank pattern. I'm assuming you deleted your original file? I only had one digital file go missing, but when I want to download one onto my laptop that was originally on an old tablet I go to my account on the designer's site and download it again. Most of them have either no download limits or like 40 - 50. The Southbank sweater is one that's been on my little wish list for quite a minute! Have a great weekend!!
Thanks so much for watching Lynn. I did try and hunt for the file but no luck. I suppose was I was cross about was the fact I had altered the pattern to change it from racer back and now I have to do that again if I want to change the look 😂. It will turn up I am sure, when I am not looking for it! Hope you are well and enjoy your weekend 🧵😊
Aahh the seduction of Fabricland. We've all been there 😂
Oh that did make me laugh 😂. You are right though, we are so starved of 'real' fabric shops we get too excited when we go in there! 😊🧵
Lovely makes. I too have regretted buying cheap fabric. Love the oven gloves and your yoga tops. Happy sewing, Pat
Yes, colour catchers are a must.
Last weekend my SIL went to the emergency room - she panicked because her legs had turned blue. I guess you know why...yes, new jeans that she hadn't washed yet. It's a true story that cost her the price of an insurance copay! Cutting the dress down is going to give you so much more use of it. The oven mitt is too cute and the yoga top is great - now, that's an example of an inexpensive fabric purchase that went well; so often there is some uncertainty when we buy fabric, unfortunately. The damage from the hurricane here is just awful for the folks involved, and it's always humbling to see the power of water and wind. Hard to believe.
Oh Mary that is so funny and scary all at the same time. I did watch a Medical drama once, 'House' where the person was ill and it ended up being the dye from jeans entering her blood stream! That is why I panicked over the blue hands 😂. I hadn't thought of it until your comment but yes, the cheap fabric from Walmart was brilliant and the cheap fabric from the local shop was awful, it is the luck of the draw isn't it?
I do hope that your Government is helping all they can in your area and that normal life can start to resume soon, it has been such an awful tragedy. Please stay safe xx 🧵😊
Add a little vinegar to your rinse water to help “set” the color of your denim.
Thank you so much for that, I will certainly try it as I can see it colouring the sofa the way it is right now! Have a good week and thanks again 😊🧵
Would it be the worst thing if those jeans shrank in the wash? It could make them fit better.
A little bit of shrinking would be perfect I agree! Maybe I ought to employ the Tumble Drier to have a go as well 😂. Thanks for watching 🧵😊
