April Black did a deep dive on corruption and how the game handles deleted, dead or binned Sims. Take a look and you may find a lot of context on what happened to those vanished Sims. HIGHLIGHT. Sims that are deleted from the bin or have their graves deleted leave 'stub' files, which keep only enough for the game to reference relationships and other vital references. This is why the game 'fills in the blanks' and leaves those resurrected sims in such an odd state.
I think that Olivia's pregnancy (or the lack of it) can be a cool feature for storytelling. There's a condition called "a phantom (false) pregnancy" which causes a woman to believe she's pregnant. A great concept for some drama imo
oh that’s really creative! never seen this theory before. though maybe it’s because the thought of her passing whilst pregnant makes me really sad so i want an explanation that’s not so heartbreaking 😓
Or maybe a stone pregnancy too. I sometimes had this issue when using inteen and they miscarried. Although they miscarried the bump was still there until they conceived and gave birth to a new child.
I thought it might have been bc the baby couldn't be resurrected with her, that's it's a stillborn or miscarriage. Plus the bump doesn't go down for a while after birth so that's possible too x
Personally, i believe that Olivia was actually pregnant, but then she died. And when she was resurrected, then it became a phantom pregnancy (joke intended). But of course, after she actually gets pregnant, everything is normal
waaa thank you 🥺 i realised maybe halfway into getting footage that there was no scripted event, since i would have to enter the capp household a lot and i would exit without saving each time. it seemed like a massive oversight and an anomaly so i wanted to investigate, just in case it was actually a feature and not a bug for once lol. sure enough, i found pentawa’s tutorial explaining that there should be a scripted event as detailed in the primaguide, only a token was present in the lot preventing it from running... for some reason. i never would’ve found it myself so i owe pentawa a lot; even when i noticed there was no scripted event, i never would’ve known to go into the lot’s memory and remove a token. if anything, i would’ve thought a token would be responsible for running the script - not blocking it!
@@tanicsims2 It did work with only the base game with no patches. I saw it a long time ago, when I was a child. It was blocked by accident in a patch, when adults stopped being able of being mean to teens.
oh! i also thought i had seen it as a kid, but i was worried in case it was something like the mandela effect so didn’t want to say anything like ‘it was fine in the base game’ especially since i couldn’t find much information about it other than pentawa’s tutorial. that makes sense - i wonder if it’s the same reason why part of the broke script is... uh, broken as well. at least in my game/the uc, i’ve never had brandi successfully lecture dustin once he comes home from school like she’s apparently supposed to. since part of the capp’s script is for consort to lecture romeo, perhaps that’s why it was blocked (whether intentionally or not) with that patch? you’ve definitely got me curious so i wanna see if i can find anything else about it. thank you for the information!
I love Veronaville, however i think the Sims Community doesn't give it much attention like Pleasantview or Strangetown, so it's nice to see how in-depth this video about it is!
agreed!! i owe a lot to veronaville because it led me to shakespeare who is my biggest writing inspiration so i hope i could give it the attention it deserves, even if it is through a video about its borkage 🤣
I don't like Veronaville because it is too influenced by Shakespeare. I like a bit more originality. Pleasantview felt easier to play. You could take the storyline anywhere you wanted. Veronaville didn't feel that way at all.
I didn't like it at first because it felt so empty. It made a HUGE difference when I got all those bin sims moved into proper homes so I could play out their Shakespearean dramas rotationally. For someone who has trouble coming up with my own story lines, it made it so much easier when I could watch all these dramas play out Sims-style.
The section about 'Viola' is incredibly fascinating, but another part of circumstantial evidence is that Viola is a name from Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, so there's every possibility that she was intended as part of the 'hood, and possibly even in the Monty Household when accompanied with that beta image!
Much like Strangetown, this video was pretty neat. Personally I’ve been making my own customised cast of townies with Shakespearean names because I thought it’d fit better than people running around with Maxis names.
hahaha oh nooo not ‘much like strangetown’ 🤣 that’s SUCH a cool idea! i would worry about using all the names up, though i may or may not have a whole list on my phone of shakespeare characters’ names that haven’t been shared with veronaville residents yet lol. i guess you could also branch out a bit, especially considering how there are really just sims named after english counties hahaha. still, i really love this!
Logically there is no reason I should be watching this. I don't own the Sims 2, I've never even played it, but the technical details you go into and your soft voice make these videos very interesting regardless. I really like the technical content and I hope there will be more of it in the future!
wow - what an honour to discover my videos are appealing to people outside the community! though it does make me wonder how you found me and what made you click hahaha. thank you so much for the kind words! i'm no computer expert but i have been interested in bugs and the mechanics of things like viruses, bsods, glitches, etc. for many years and i guess this extends to corruption across the sims franchise. i've also considered studying programming more in-depth at some point. point is, i love exploring and researching the technical side of ts2 and its problems, even though tbh i am just relaying information discovered by very talented and very clever players (who deserve all the credit!) and compiling it in one place since it's all scattered across individual wiki pages and forums. still - i enjoy making this content and there are still a few more hoods to dig into so i can promise there will be more of this content in the future! glad you enjoyed!!
Deleting sims using the bin is safe, and is just a myth of it being dangerous. The shredded data does not attach to anything, practically leaving a sim shell instead of a nuclear warhead.
I feel like the corruption surrounding deleted sims is a good representation of what would really happen if a person was suddenly erased from the timeline.
thank you for showing how to fix the broken capp scripted event i havent seen anyone else talk about how to fix it and i just accepted that i’ll never get to play it until now
oh no need to thank me - all credit goes to pentawa. i’m just a messenger relaying their tutorial - i probably would have never figured it out on my own!
oh! we’re similar in age! i’m almost 24 and been playing ts2 about 15 years too. never imagined i’d be here almost two decades later making vids about it... or that there’d still be an active and wonderful community! for all its flaws and borkage, it really is timeless. thank you so much for your kind words 🥺❤️
I'm just if wondering if some of the deleted sims are ones that were used in the storytelling images. In the family album of the Summerdream you can see Puck's birth parents giving him up for adoption. According to the Sims Wiki Puck still has relationships with them despite them being deleted.
that’s exactly what i was suspecting, but i was hesitant to include my thoughts because i’m not an expert lol. there are other storytelling images depicting sims that can’t be found in-game, and there’s this pre-release picture depicting a teenager (?) and two kids running around what looks to be capp manor (or a similar house) who don’t exist in-game either. i believe it’s entirely possible that a few of the deleted sims were the ones used in storytelling images, but then it makes me wonder about pleasantview and strangetown since they also feature images of sims who are nowhere to be found but there’s not as much evidence suggesting sims were deleted as there is in veronaville. puck does have quite a few relationships with deleted/unknown sims so it did cross my mind. puck randomly having a ‘parent’ flag towards a deleted sim also made me wonder if his ties were incorrectly set and it should actually list him as being the child of a deleted sim. i had to keep double checking because at first i thought the ‘parent’ flag was puck recognising a deleted sim as his parent, which made me question if that could have been an early version of oberon, which could explain why oberon was one of the last created playable sims made so long after titania and puck. that, or he still had ties with the sims in the storytelling image. but i checked other srels and children recognised themselves as the child of a sim, not a parent. very confusing stuff. anyway now i wish i had included it, maybe through a question inviting discussion and clarifying it’s just speculation. this theory makes a lot of sense though imo. really interesting comment, thank you for sharing!
EDIT 15/09/2021: Unfortunately the comment was deleted (most likely because it contained a link) but luckily I managed to catch a comment from *Yubell* -before TH-cam ate it- who has created an article on the Sims Wiki for User_00018 aka “Viola”. This article notably features the missing piece of the puzzle, and now I have been able to access the once unspecified file I can indeed confirm that the lot data for 111 Stratford Street/Lot45 contains code referencing a N005_User00018 - Viola. Thank you so much to Yubell for taking the time to both verify the information and for creating the article (sims.fandom.com/wiki/Viola ). All credit goes to Yubell, the Sims Wiki, and munchiethegnome on Tumblr. IT’S HERE! She took her time, but How Corrupt is Veronaville Anyway is FINALLY HERE! 🥳 Thank you all SO MUCH for your patience and continuous support. Knowing how many people were excited for this has encouraged me and made me realise exactly why I wanted to make these videos and share them online ❤️ As mentioned at the end of this video, we have now covered all three of the base game hoods - and it’s up to you to decide which hood comes next! I’ll be posting the poll on my Community page shortly, but feel free to cast your votes here too. Do you want to find out about how corrupt the ‘fourth’ base game hood - Tutorial - is, or do you want to go forward with the next hood, Downtown? Or are you interested in a more speculative take based on TS2’s development history where we wonder how corrupt _might_ scrapped neighbourhoods such as Waterside and Riverside have been? EDIT: The poll is now up on my Community page! This video took a lot longer than anticipated, and I’ve gone through quite a few mic and OBS problems over the past few months, so while it’s not perfect I have tried my hardest to make this video enjoyable and informative (and, hopefully, not an absolute pain to watch)! Still saving for a better mic... 😓 Once again, I’m so sorry that this video took so long, and I thank you all for your patience and understanding. You are all blessings. I hope we’ll meet again in the next video -(it won’t take a month this time, I swear)- , which is going to be the next family in Pleasantview - the first of many Pleasants. I also have a fun video planned to celebrate reaching 1000 subscribers so stay tuned for that! Enjoy your weekend, and remember to stay safe, be good, and most of all - Happy Simming! 🥰❤️
Sorry, I could have been more specific about Viola's file location in the wiki. I'm almost positive she was just a townie since the name Viola appears on the names list that Sims 2 uses.
Veronoaville was my favourite neighboorhood in ts2, because of it's "emptiness" and the ability to play with the story (it all felt a bit too forced in Pleasentville (i'm also european, maybe that's the reason)). Super interesting vid! If i ever pick up ts2 again i'll defeinetly come back to this one :D
@@LunaPhoebeQuinn May i make a joke? I know its horrible, and she was amazing, i think she would keep making amazing mods and help everyone who needed. "She didn't want to see the dumpster fire that TS4 would become, so she peaced out"
I was NOT prepared to see their daughter's corrupted face. I already had nightmares about Sims 2 corruption, I guess I won't be sleeping today :') I've played many horrors, but for some reason my subconciousness finds something incredibly horrific about Sims 2 corruption to grant me nightmares about it. I don't know why I watch these videos, but they are so interesting hahaha.
I'm playing meetmetotheriver's cleaned Veronaville as part of a megahood- if I had known about the deleted Viola before this, I would have totally given that name to Olivia Monty's daughter!
it’s such a pretty name! and it fits with olivia’s name since viola and olivia are from the same play. hopefully you can have the opportunity to name another sim viola, if you’d want to!
@@alexhowlett3100 When you exit to the neighborhood without saving and reload the family the gender plus the hair, eye and skin color of the baby might change. You can use that to your advantage This is a core thing to avoid the first-born syndrome, so just out of curiosity, do you know what it is?
@@x1y8z I know what first-born syndrome is, but I didn't need to save and reload, Regan had a girl first try, and so Viola Capp was born. But honestly, the more and more I think about it, I'm seriously considering switching Viola and Helena's names around. What do you think?
i was only 3 months old when sims 2 was released but i have very fond memories watching my older sister playing the sims 2, she always chalked up the glitches she experienced to our old family computer but watching these videos makes what happened to her saves so much clearer now!
What I'm getting from these videos is that Maxis really fucked up by giving pre-made hood sims such extensive ancestral family trees xD I get that they were trying to show off this new feature and create depth and backstories for the pre-made sims, but they definitely goofed hahaha.
it’s definitely possible that they never playtested long enough to understand the ramifications of shredding ancestor’s character data, especially since symptoms of corruption can take years to manifest. plus there’s the added explanation of resurrection not being possible until the first ep, although i did see a maxoid confirm the number of eps for the game shortly before ts2 was released on the sims network site. it makes me wonder if the developers were aware resurrection was going to be included in an ep, or if it was not set in stone yet. this is conjecture on my part, but maxoidtom also admitted in the dna thread on mts that he had not banked on players being able to access parts of the code such as dna; if maxis had not considered players creating a tool to dig into character data, it is possible this extends to ancestors. there are a lot of features shipped with the game and were never patched out that we now know cause hood corruption, such as moving occupied lots to the bin, moving sims to another neighbourhood, deleting families, etc. so i don’t think it’s too far fetched to say that maxis were unable to foresee these problems in the spaghetti coding. the game was ambitious and complex, shipped with _1.1 million lines of code_ , and unfortunately sometimes that’s to its detriment. somehow this doesn’t stop me from regularly playing and loving this game with all of my heart, and i’ll always encourage new and returning players to try it 😭
One time I teleported all the NPCs onto a giant lot to see what would happen and they fought constantly. Now I understand why. Thank you for explaining corruption.
Veronaville was my absolute favorite neighborhood, I loved the family's Shakespearean feud, but I had no idea about how corrupted it was too! A weird and interesting thing I encountered in the game was the first time I aged up Hermia and Puck and made them have a baby. Even tho Puck was supposedly adopted, their baby came out black, so I thought, "Oh so Obereon really is Puck's father!" The next 2 kids they had were black as well. Then I ended up having to restart my game when my computer broke, I got the two of them to the same adult stages, and when they had a baby... they were white, all three. It was very bizarre yet interesting sims 2 quirk
hahaha no one’s really commented on them! they’re all shakespeare quotes! i mostly just did it to be dramatic (and because i love shakespeare) 🤣 but it was weirdly easy to find quotes that fit!
Mouth head Capp is going to haunt my dreams... The inner workings of this game are fascinating 😂 I'm no developer or coder or anything, but getting a glimpse into the process of each hood's creation and the way things are coded to work (or you know... not) is so interesting. It's such a shame that the developers had to rush to create the game, but at the same time, it has given fans something to talk, learn, and discover things about almost 20 years later. I love diving into simPE and trying to piece things together and theorize. Thanks for all your hard work compiling all this info into one place, it's always a joy to watch! (I'm a sucker for the Tricou family and the rest of the Downtownies so I voted Downtown but I'd definitely love to see Tutorial and the scrapped neighborhood deep dives eventually 💖) Ooo, shoutout to the Lordcrumps GC version of Veronaville. Using it in my Uberhood (and made a custom subhood that adds the VV townies and npcs, I have 1346 sims in this uberhood send help) and it's delightful.
thank you so much, it’s always great to read your comments 🥺 while i feel like i’m just a messenger relaying findings and explanations from players much more talented and intelligent than i and don’t know if i deserve any credit, i thought it was important to compile everything into one place since most of the information is just scattered across individual sim pages on the wiki or forums from over 10 years ago. honestly i just started making these vids because i know this is how i personally would want all the information presented to me and wondered if it would be helpful for others. plus i need EVERYTHING explained as in-depth as possible lol. i’m like a kid who answers ‘why’ to absolutely everything 🤣 never thought anyone would be interested in anything i had to say (in places where i do add my own input, and even then i keep that to a minimum not only because i’m really not an expert but also because i want to invite everyone to share their own thoughts and draw their own conclusions) or found across the web, but hey, here we are hahaha (downtown is winning the vote, so looks like it’ll be next! knowing me though, i will most likely make the other two videos eventually, possibly as specials after all the main playable hoods and subhoods have been covered. i like covering things that don’t really get talked about much, so really the poll just decides the order of the videos rather than whether or not i actually do them 🤣) thought i’d give it a mention since it looks so cool! if i understand the description correctly, it was created in a totally clean environment so it’s more a replication of veronaville (may be COMPLETELY wrong/misunderstanding) meaning it’s as safe and sterile as a hood can be. main downside is that there are no townies though, but another commenter said they make their own unique townies with shakespearean names which i thought was a really cool idea and a great alternative, especially if you want the dna corrected! also i would probably move bianca and antonio’s family out of the houses lordcrumps placed them in - i downloaded these cute starter homes that were designed to go on the rural side of veronaville, perfect for the riverbank. other than that it sounds so tempting! glad you’re enjoying it! (p.s. a megahood omg... i don’t know how players cope. i can barely cope with my pleasantview and that only has about 800 sims/character files in total, the majority probably just being townies and stealth hood sims generated before i downloaded empty templates. as for playable sims, i’d wager there’d be about 200 if not more atm. anyway point is, i am IN AWE and i wish you a lot of happiness playing your megahood!)
Even if others found and guided you first, you're still putting in plenty of work to search far and wide to compile, plus you take the time to look into the info on your own as well and in many cases, replicate situations for accuracy. Not to mention all the footage and screenshots gathered and editing done. I'd say credit earned 😉 The vote prompted me to watch Calipers video on making the tutorial hood playable and I ended up diving into it in SimPE and giving it a run in hoodchecker. Sure enough, deleted sims 🤣 In context of just being a tutorial neighborhood, there's some bizarre things going on. I uh... I insisted on having every single maxis townie and npc in my Uberhood for some reason. Had to manually add soooooo many townies since I used clean templates for all the hoods. I also decided to resurrect and make playable most of the recently dead sims 😂 Skip, the entire Tricou family, Olivia/Claudio and Cordelia/Goneril, and Bella was returned from her abduction so she's an elder, but kept her clone living in Strangetown. Pleasantview, Belladonna Cove, the Tricous, Strangetown, and Veronaville are all Genetically correct as well so I'm interested to see the genetics in the future!
I don't know if someone mentioned this, but the scary part about the Seth Bui and Viola case. Both have the same exact skintone (medium), hair color (blonde (Seth's was blonde before it turned gray)), and eye color (light blue). Who knew Viola went from being a teenage girl to an elder man that repairs stuff for a living. Maybe I'm looking too deeply into this.
woah... good catch! it could just be a very spooky coincidence, but sim dna is one of the resources that still exist after a sim is deleted, thus viola’s dna - if we are to go with the theory that the blonde teenager in the pre-release 111 stratford st pics once owned the character file now occupied by seth - may still be attached to that specific nid? it’s a possibility!
Ahhh, Veronaville. My favourite base game hood, so problematic 🧡 gotta love her Great video btw! I thought I knew everything but these videos surprise me everytime.
veronaville, everyone’s problematic fave ❤️ she’ll always have a place in my heart for being the entire reason i fell in love with shakespeare, to the point where i basically romanticise her corruption lmao. really glad you learned some new things since i wanted to cover absolutely everything, especially the things no one really talks about (and a lot of the stuff was completely new to me too!)✨
an additional detail that i found interesting: the wiki states that it's possible that two of the sims who were deleted were puck's biological parents, who are seen in the storytelling pictures for the summerdream family 🤔 great video! 😊
I love these videos SO MUCH!! The idea of hood and game corruption is so creepy and terrifying and I don’t know why, but watching these is so satisfying!! Subscribed 🥰
aww thank you so much, both for the kind words and for subscribing! i like to compare corruption in this game to lost media. even though lost media can refer to things as innocuous as an unaired kid’s tv show pilot, the very term itself conjures up some creepy feelings. the word ‘corruption’ adds this whole new horror factor that general words like ‘glitches’ or ‘bugs’ don’t imo. it also feels more specific to this game. hope that made sense hahaha. but yes, welcome to the circus - it’s great to have you here! 🤗
I knew about the sims with mouths on their foreheads, but I did not know about all the weird Sim-deletion effects in VVille. Another thing I know about Veronaville is that the memories are super inconsistent, though that's not really corruption so much as general developer error. Isabella Monty doesn't remember giving birth to her children! Also, Fun Fact: "Eetion" is pronounced "ei-e-ti-own" in the original Ancient Greek.
yeah, i think i probably mention at some point that the memories are so wonky that they’d warrant their own video, but as you said it’s not corruption, just... an oversight, maybe. same for age discrepancies. oh how interesting! i always google how to pronounce names i’m unfamiliar with (had to google a lot for this video especially...) and eetion was pronounced ‘ee-shun’ but i had a feeling it was most likely an anglicised/modern version, even with my *VERY* limited greek 🤣
@@tanicsims2 Whenever I start a new Veronaville playthrough, or a multihood that involves Veronaville, the first thing I have to do is fix all the memories and family trees, because they are just... so inconsistent. Even meetmetotheriver's clean template has some family tree errors (it still shows Juliette as older than Tybalt and Romeo as older than Mercutio, for example). As for Eetion, I'm not sure how it would be pronounced in Modern Greek, as my experience with Greek is mostly with the Attic and Homeric dialects of ancient Greek. It would probably have an "ee" sound at the start since eta has gone through a vowel shift and now sounds the same as iota.
Fantastic video!! Veronaville has many oddities and there's still a lot of things that can be discovered. For instance, the 111 Stratford Street still contains data for how it was originally furnished when Sims once lived there in the beta. There are fun little things like seeing Bianca's beta bio in Hamlet Dane's character data, leftover from when that file originally belonged to her.
oh wow! pentawa hi! thank you SO much for your excellent tutorial on fixing the capp script. since i had to keep reloading the capp household i soon noticed there was no scripted event, and when i went to investigate i found your tutorial. i never would’ve known how to find the problem myself. and yes - the deleted sims section was my absolute favourite to research and record because of all the tiny crumbs left in the files, such as bianca’s previous bio in hamlet’s catalog description and the note that new bianca was copied over from user_00011 hamlet’s character file. since viola has now had a page made for her on the sims wiki and showed where the reference to her in the lot’s code can be found, i inspected the file and it was so cool seeing the furniture, controllers, and even references to some capp family members (as well as viola). it made me open up basically every other package file in the hood in hopes that i’d find more crumbs lol. thank you so much again! really great to see you here 🤗
I remember finding your channel when you had like 500 subscribers and now you've just blown up. And you deserve it! You go so in depth, explain things very well and in an easy to understand way. I personally am too afraid to play sims 2 in any way as I get too attached to my sims and I have a bad habit of wanting to constantly adjust said sims. But this series does interest me because the game is really complex, clearly loved and played even years after. But clearly held together with spit, tape and a dash of hope.
aww thank you so much! this really means a lot!! even though i do want to encourage you to play this game i’m just really glad that my videos have gotten you interested in ts2. it’s my favourite thing in the whole world and i wanna share it with everyone 🥺❤️
@@tanicsims2 Thats also another reason. I love hearing you talk so passionately about the game. And Im sure it's what draws a lot of people as well. I look forward to the next video! And take cqre of yourself as well
What a fantastic deep dive! I've been playing this game ever since it came out, and I still didn't know half the things you talked about. I love discovering crumbs of development history in the game files.
thank you! honestly there are SO MANY of these crumbs that even with this almost hour long video i feel like i barely scratched the surface. the base game hoods especially are goldmines for development history!
aww thank you! honestly i just do a ton of research and have been reading about corruption for a few years now, so i’m really just a messenger relaying information and discoveries by very talented players who are much more intelligent than i. tutorial is losing the vote for the next video but it doesn’t mean i won’t cover it eventually, because i really like discussing things about this game that most people don’t really talk/know about ^^
this totally lived up to the hype 💗 I had to watch this in parts cuz college is hectic but it was able to keep my interest even between breaks!! Good job and thank you for your hard work as always Tanic 💞
this comment is so lovely, thank you so much 🥺 hope you are doing well at college! and you don’t need to thank me, but i appreciate it and i’m just glad you enjoyed ❤️
no need to thank me! hahaha to be honest as a fellow very unhelpfully indecisive person i completely relate and it’s very likely that i’ll be making all those ideas into videos anyway - i just wanted to see what people would be most interested in seeing next. so really it just decides the order haha!!
I play in Strangetown and to be safe I downloaded a clean hood. Now everything was fine and dandy, till I got the scare of my life when a random townie wanted to introduce me to the Therapist 😂 I declined but then I made the townie selectable and he didn't even know the Therapist.
yep, the networking feature is super bugged, even with clean templates (had a similar scare myself when a dormie tried introducing my sim to a long-dead mortimer goth in my pleasantview...). it’s good that the therapist didn’t show up in the relationship panel, since that’s where problems would really start. but that townie might have a memory of meeting the therapist - did you notice one when you made them selectable at all? if they do happen to have this memory, you can remove it with simpe or with in-game mods like memory manipulator (i think that’s what it’s called; i don’t use it, so unfortunately i can’t be much help), just for peace of mind if nothing else tbh. the townie may have relationship values with the therapist (only viewable in simpe) but these will decay and, as long as you don’t interact with the therapist - again why it’s good the therapist is not in the townie’s relationship panel - you _should_ be okay. you may also be able to uncheck any flags like ‘known’ in simpe but i’m not 100% sure about doing so and i don’t want to advise someone to do this in case it’s a bad idea - i’m still looking into it so i can’t tell you if it’s completely safe to remove all ties between the therapist and the townie, if there are any. anyway, if you haven’t already, check out the new friend fix mod by cyjon - it addresses this bug and should prevent this from happening again!
@@tanicsims2 I noticed that quite a lot of sims have known flags and relationship values with bad NPCs in SimPE in my game. All of them happen to be vacation townies and hobby NPCs. I did get the mod that should stop networking feature but before that in another hood it was a Bluewater village townie that tried to introduce my sim to the Therapist. After that she knew a bunch of bad NPCs according to SimPE. What I guess happens is game makes networking sims know everyone including dead sims and bad NPCs. I didn't make her selectable to check if Therapist appeared in her relationship panel because I was scared lol. And she did have the memory of meeting Therapist according to SimPE. I dunno if I should remove known flags for vacation townies and hobby NPCs because it's gonna be quite tedious, for now I just decided to avoid adding them to the family.
hmm... i feel like i’ve read about this being common, about how the vacation locals in particular have flags and values with the universal npcs. i also came across a thread once while looking into this a few months back where tarlia (meetmetotheriver) and mootilda discussed sims having flags/relationships with universal npcs that aren’t reflected in their relationship panel or anywhere in-game really, and iirc they couldn’t be 100% sure but they didn’t think it was too dangerous leaving them be. again, hesitant to say ‘yeah just unflag them’ but mootilda also mentioned srels being stored in the neighbourhood.package (or possibly neighbourhood manager. i’ll have to hunt the thread down) meaning you won’t be modifying the objects.package file by removing relationships. they did mention that the values will just decay on their own though, but they weren’t able to come to a conclusion on whether having the ‘known’ box ticked was dangerous in itself. plus, i’m pretty sure dorsal-axe (made a clean strangetown template, might be the one you’re using too) mentioned deleting the ties between bella and the npcs, and i’d imagine they wouldn’t have done that if they thought it would be unsafe to touch them. plus as long as your objects.package files are all read-only, the game may not be affected at all. it’s tricky. honestly yeah it probably would just be more tedious to remove them than anything 🤣 quarantining them may be all you need to do in case they do spread their nasty npc cooties
@@tanicsims2 Yeah, I have my objects.package files on read only. I guess the reason why they don't appear in the relationship panel is because they're in default household where the dead sims are too. My sims still have known flags with their cat that died but he doesn't appear in the relationship panel anymore. Still, probably better be safe than sorry and not add them to the family lol
@@tanicsims2 I will have to check his memories then, luckily I know which townie is the culprit... The clean hood I downloaded was one of the two you had recommended in your Strangetown videos, the one with all NPCs and townies intact. But it seems I should have downloaded the other one without NPCs 😂😂
I vaguely remember back in the day my original copy of TS2 just didn't have Veronaville whatsoever for some reason. Only Pleasantview and Strangetown. And then I played a different version sometime later on and I guess I figured it was added by an EP at one point.
I didn't know Veronaville was that messed up. I knew VV was still in beta stage cause a few playable sims have their beta faces(Romeo, Tybalt, Hal) before going to a mirror, but 50+ vacant sim IDs? Geez. Good vid tho
right - strangetown has the reputation of being the ‘most corrupted’ (not that the amount really matters when it comes to bfbvfs...es) pre-made hood but honestly veronaville worries me the most. the sim deletion alone is enough for me to conclude, ‘yep, it’s pretty bad.’ at the very least it has to be on par with strangetown. good point about the faces - it didn’t make the final cut because i already had enough... evidence? i guess? to ‘prove’ this hood contains a ton of outdated data on top of half-updated data indicating veronaville went through A LOT of changes from very early on in development right to the last few months. plus that section and video as a whole were getting way too long lol. absolutely loving the description ‘vacant sim ids’. veronaville nids really said it’s free real estate (thank you!!)
It felt so weird hearing you say my name in the video! XD Thank you! Great video as always Tanic, congrats on 1K subs! While I had heard of some of these things before, many of them were very new to me, so it was very interesting to watch this. I look forward for the next corruption video (I'm voting for Downtown)! Though some quick notes: 1. There's two elder female Sims in Downtown that are mistakenly placed in the objects package and therefore unplayable (you probably already know that)and 2. I've heard that all the Downtown teens recognise Jon Smith Tricou as their father but he doesn't recognise them as children. I'll see you in the next video!
hahaha i know the feeling 🤣 thank you once again for reminding me! and thank you for your kind words! yep, made a note of both things, though the part about one-sided family ties has the potential for me to completely forget about so i’m really glad you reminded me of that in particular haha. can’t wait to see you in how corrupt is downtown anyway!! 🤗
Off topic but thank you so much, this video actually helped me solve a problem I'd been having with my game! I couldn't figure out why two sims couldn't do romantic interactions, even though they had no family icon, didn't appear in each other's family tree, and weren't related in the 'family ties' resource in SimPe. At around 28 minutes in, you said sim relationships are stored in two places in SimPe, 'family ties' and 'sim relations'. My sims somehow had the family box checked in 'sim relations'! I unchecked it on both ends and now all is well. Thank you so much, I was at my wit's end! I'm sure these videos aren't easy to put together, so I wanted to say I appreciate your hard work! Thank you
oh i’m so glad!! yeah this game randomly adds flags for no reason sometimes lol. i had a similar situation in my pleasantview where alexander goth’s son suddenly thought he was engaged to his first cousin once removed whom he’d never even met. i checked in simpe and for some reason he had the engaged box checked but it wasn’t reciprocated lol. but yeah it can be really finicky and sometimes just having the family flag in srels won’t affect sims’ ability to be romantic (like in veronaville) if the relationship isn’t reflected in famt whereas other times the srel resource is enough to... override? almost? famt. really glad to hear that this information helped you! thank you so much! all the information is scattered across individual wiki pages and forums from like 10 years ago so most of the time it takes to make these videos is spent compiling it all lmao. they’re so fun to make and research that it doesn’t really feel like work haha! but yeah i am just a messenger relaying discoveries and information from much more talented and cleverer players than i so you don’t have to thank me, but it is really nice and i appreciate it 🥺❤️
interestingly i always thought that orginally hermia and tybalt was going to be juliette's cousin instead of sibling because they were both created at the same time with regan and goneril's family respectively
Great video, love watching your stuff. It's funny, I was 11 when the game came out, yet I never got to play it beyond a couple times. My sister and I were making a sim in CAS and were using the glitch where you could choose a premade face part (like the eyes or nose) and then go back and max out the sliders to another part and create horrendously ugly sims. Despite the hilarity, it caused the game to crash. My dad was not pleased and we were not allowed to play sims 2 again lol. Thinking about it now, I'm sure it's nothing that my sister and I did, but it was just the game being the game. I got the ultimate collection in 2014 when EA did that free promo before the Sims 4 came out. I didn't play the game much afterwards, and 3 computers later I tried to play the game this year in a more serious way. Between you, Calipers, Pleasant Sims, and Marticore, I get so hyped up to play TS2. Watching these videos hypes me up to play the game even when I'm annoyed with it. I ended up playing with Alexander Goth and having a fun time working on his legacy. I like TS2 because it really expanded upon the family element of TS1. It definitely must have felt good for original players to have children that actually look like their mothers and fathers. I think that the best part of TS2 is creating families, legacies, and parent to child interactions in general. I always try to play the Gavigans and create a cute little family with them...until they always end up dying in a fire. I don't even try, somehow my sims die so easy in this game. It wasn't until your and Calipers' videos that I learned just how corrupt TS2 is! I have a hard time playing the game because my play style is more Sims 3 (creating worlds, saving families, moving houses, and saving houses to use for later). Everything that I like to do in TS3 corrupts a world in TS2! When I played TS2 as a child though, I remember there being this weird glitch where it was something about how, if you create a male sim in a certain way, there was a chance that if he had a daughter, she would have a mustache. This was in the base game, and I'm unsure if this is still attainable in the ultimate collection. I also used this household to test out the death by ghosts, and I swear back in the base game, if your sim was scared twice they would die. Now it seems that it's just if their needs are low they'll die from fright? Anyway, sorry for the long comment. I would love to see you do videos on everything mentioned at the end, but I would love to see a downtown video next.
wow... thank you so much for sharing your experience! it was a great read, so never apologise for its length ❤️ what an ABSOLUTE HONOUR to even be mentioned in the same sentence as three fantastic creators and contributors to the sims 2 community. all of them are my inspirations, so while i don't know if i am worthy it is a huge compliment and means so much -i may have teared up when i initially read this comment before going to sleep last night- i probably mention it during my very sappy outro, but my dream was always to inspire others to play this game, and learn about its borkage without feeling discouraged from playing it. knowing i've achieved that, knowing if there's even just one person out there who saw my video and not only thought 'huh, that wasn't a total waste of my time' but also encouraged them to open up origin or dig out their old discs... that's the definition of success for me. to share my own experience (though i promise to keep it as brief as i possibly can, because i have A LOT to say about this game lol. it could easily warrant its own essay or almost hour long video 🤣) - i was one of those original players you mention who played ts1 first, then discovered ts2. my earliest memories of the sims are from 2003, playing console versions (namely urbz and ts1 console), and then playing ts1 on the pc a year later. i distinctly remember owning a collection called triple deluxe, and that was apparently released in 2004. i would have only been about 6/7. basically the majority of my life has revolved around this game lol. can't really remember a time where i _wasn't_ playing the sims in some form. in either 2005 or 2006 my best friend showed me the cool new pc game she got - it was the sequel to one of my own favourite games! she showed me the specter household because she was into creepy things and wanted me to see the ghosts, and i was TERRIFIED. even now the specter household spooks me because it was my first experience of ts2 as a child. most of all though, i remember being fascinated by the fact that the household contained an elder and a teenager. wow, actual age groups! i liked to make my own family on ts1, and it would always annoy me how i had to make my older siblings, who were teenagers at the time, as adults, so the game wasn't able to discern who my child simself's parents were and would send my sister to pick me up from another household for example. not only that, but the sims my friend showed me were auntie and niece! people aren't exaggerating when they say ts2 was groundbreaking; it really was. it was a HUGE jump from ts1 to ts2 in so many ways. pretty sure i call the addition of genetics and family ties the game's usp in either this video or another video, and i truly mean that. it was such a big deal. and the trailer... omg. i got my cousin into ts2 and i had the dvd version of the base game, so we'd watch the dvd basically every night i slept over at hers. your comment has unlocked so many memories hahaha that's so interesting about the moustache glitch! i've never heard about it so i'm definitely going to go down this rabbithole later. honestly i can imagine this being fixed in a patch, if only because a patch note along the lines of '[doing certain action in cas] will no longer lead to daughters being born with moustaches' would fit right in 🤣 again, thank you for your interesting comment and lovely words! i'm always up for a discussion about ts2 so feel free to come to me with even more memories/experiences if you'd feel comfortable! downtown is winning the vote so it's going to be next, but honestly the poll really just decides the order i release the videos, mainly to gauge what everyone's most interested in watching. i'm considering making the tutorial and beta hoods' deep dives after covering all subhoods and ep hoods, maybe as special videos since they are more speculative!!
@@tanicsims2 Aww I didn't mean to make you tear up! But I appreciate you taking out the time and effort to create what you do. It's hard, and arduous, I totally understand that. I think the best part is just seeing people like you that dedicate themselves to delving deep into the lore and programming of TS2. Without you and Calipers, I would have never learned this stuff. Seriously! Thank you so much for making these videos!
Thank you for your detailed explanation! Veronaville is my least played neighbourhood in the base game, so I can have a hard time to recognize some of the premade sims, especially deceased ones and townies. Nevertheless, it was interesting to watch your analysis. Well done!
These videos shouldn't interest but they do. Good stuff as always. Been playing since Sims launch ALL the way back so these deep dives are fascinating. Digital archeology.
also, the spooky wolf howls and stuff make these feel like they're a top ten list of creepy urban legends and for some reason that adds so much atmosphere like we're all learning cult secrets we shouldn't know lmao. I dig it!
thank you so much! i don’t know what it is about corruption in this game that makes it so terrifying and creepy (bordering on nightmarish in some cases...) but i like to compare it to lost media. lost media could refer to sn*ff films, footage of horrific events, or overall creepy media that’s gone missing somehow... yet most of the time, it just refers to unaired pilots or unarchived (usually obscure) tv shows among other pretty innocuous things. but when you hear the term ‘lost media’, it evokes a sense of creepiness in a way - even if the lost media in question is just some scrapped ds game. for me, it’s the same for ‘corruption’ - just the term itself denotes horror. it definitely has connotations of creepiness that words like ‘glitches’ or ‘bugs’ don’t really carry, if i’ve made sense at all. it’s also so weirdly unique to this game, which i guess also adds another spooky layer because it feels so novel and uncommon. sorry for rambling - your comment was interesting and i wanted to weigh in!
@@tanicsims2 I concur, please don't apologise for your interests - they're valid. Glitches in games have always had a "spooky" feel to them to me, for some reason. It's the feeling of seeing something that wasn't supposed to happen, maybe that's what it is? I've seen many in games since the 90s to today so I get it. I think with the Sims 2 it's mostly the gross results you can get out of corruption and you're probably right, the terminology used just SOUNDS creepy. Lost media is a fascinating topic and I'm all in favour of digital archives, we need to hold onto this stuff just like museums hold onto physical pieces of art (excusing the truly grim stuff). It concerns me how much we've already lost. Thank you again for the interesting video and I wish you all the success with your channel.
@@Mitchell4892 i agree with the unpredictability factor/not expecting to see something! another analogy lol but it reminds me of computer viruses or in particular crashes, especially something like a bsod, sudden restart/shutdown, or display driver crash. it’s unnerving because you weren’t expecting it to happen, and you feel anxious and tense waiting for the computer to boot up again because you don’t know if it’s okay, and you may not even know what the reason for the crashing was. at least i feel that way when something like that happens lol. it becomes a little less scary if you can decipher the error code on the bsod, track down the reason why your computer shut down (maybe it just got a bit too hot), or fix the display driver in regedit/reinstall or update them. still though, there’s always that underlying panic that something’s gone wrong that was out of your control. with the sims 2 corruption though, there are so many variables and avenues it can go down, so it feels even more unpredictable. two players could do the exact same vbt in a hood, but one may never see any symptoms of corruption for years while the other’s hood may be gone in a matter of weeks. ‘gross results’ sums the possible manifestations of corruption up pretty well. dang, now i’m so tempted to explore this topic more! i mean, i’ve already written an essay here so why stop now 🤣 but yeah, i agree with you about lost media! it’s so fascinating and eerie. no need to thank me, instead i thank you for your insight and for your support!
hahaha i started this series because i knew i would want almost hour long videos literally just talking about ts2 corruption thinking no one else would actually be interested 🤣 hope you enjoyed ❤️
barely 15 minutes in and i'm LOVING LOVING LOVING this video!! your way of explaining is so great and your voice is v calming! def gonna subscribe and check your other videos. love from sweden xx
I remember resurrecting Olivia Monty because I felt so bad for her and the unborn baby. Never got to figure out she wasn't even pregnant because their household refused to open after I resurrected and saved lol
I'm back and subscribed, I love the passion you talk about sims with and I can relate, just with different topics, but I love learning about sims 2 and 3.
wow, i love how you really did go and binge my videos! what an honour haha. thank you so much 🥺 i love this game with all of my heart in spite of - or perhaps even _because_ of, in some cases - its... quirks, so i’m really happy to know my passion comes across! i just want to encourage players and non-players alike to play this game and be aware of its weirdness without fearing it ☺️❤️
@@tanicsims2 aww that's so wholesome, thank You for responding. You earned Your viewers and You deserve it! It's interesting, that people who love some game or any other media know its quirks best, but it makes sense.
i know your channel literally is called sims 2, but id love a sims 3 vid like this ( especially wanting to know what sims 3 townies where created first )
honestly, i know a shit ton about the sims 3, but i've never explored ts2 that much. these videos are great resources for me! tysm! (ps when i was randomly checking ts2's files there was a folder called gallery i think? and it had the unused thumbnail for riverside (or waterside idk), i wonder how late waterside was cut out.)
was it the picture of sarah baxter (short red hair) holding her toddler son, and everyone’s in their swimsuits? if so then yep, that’s waterside. judging by the fact that e3 was in may 2004 and the game was released in september that same year, it must have been cut _extremely_ late into development. there are also quite a few files that still exist in the shipped game referencing waterside, like there’s a lot in the lot bin that mentions waterside don baxter in its code and some of its text strings are still floating around in various places lol. definitely removed very last minute. i often wonder why maxis/ea decided to cut it so soon before shipment (or even why they cut it at all) but my theory, my conspiracy, apparently allegedly is that it was a bit too close to pleasantview in both storylines and appearance. still, it’s a lot of work to just scrap at the very end of development - probably not long before ts2 went gold
@@tanicsims2 oh wow, i knew ts2 had a rocky development but i never realized it was this bad. still amazes me that they managed to make a good game after all of that.
I remember when I was playing the sims 2 back when it was kinda new, and I had double deluxe. I had a matchmaker come by and she sent me a male, but he had boobs, girl hair, and girl clothes, yet I couldn’t do anything with him because the game didn’t recognize him as male but his voice was male and he had a “male name”
It’s so nice to see someone else as interested in corruption and buggy things! These videos are great, huge thanks for creating content like that Also I’ve been wondering, since you know about base game neighborhoods corruption so much, if you have an idea how to fix corrupted appearances. It’s just I’m trying to start playing Veronaville but I can’t let myself enjoy the game until everything is in at least somewhat proper shape. And what certainly isn’t in proper shape are Cordelia and Caliban’s corrupted faces. But I can’t find a way to properly replace their corrupted character files with new ones so that they don’t crash body shop when exported.
that’s exactly how i feel ☺️ got into this niche sub-genre of ts2 a few years ago and never imagined it would gain so much attention haha. it’s nice to know i’m not alone. aww no need to thank me, but i appreciate it so thank YOU for your kind words! do caliban and cordelia crash bodyshop? i know some sims with corrupted faces in strangetown like willow nigmos and lyla grunt do crash bodyshop but i haven’t heard about cordelia and caliban doing the same thing. if it’s not late to restart, clean templates probably do all the hard work for you. not 100% sure but i’d imagine meetmetotheriver for example would fix their faces, especially since she fixed everything else missing in their character files and also fixed the sims with broken face templates iirc. but i’m guessing you’re wanting to do it yourself which is really cool! you have more patience than i ever could haha. i think cornyregans on tumblr did something along these lines with their veronaville genetics project, so it might be worth asking them what they did or if they know how to do it. i’m so sorry i can’t be of more help! bodyshop isn’t my forte unfortunately. honestly i am just a messenger relaying information discovered by much cleverer players than i!
@@tanicsims2 I apparently really like fixing original neighborhoods corruption and it's very interesting to learn new facts about various developers mistakes. I hadn't known there was a way to fix Capp's scripted even before watching your video, for example. As for Cordelia and Caliban, she actually doesn't crash bodyshop, 'cause at some point developers actually KINDA fixed her. But not thoroughly, from what I understand, her original character file contains two separate appearance chunks of data, and the older one is corrupted. Caliban never received this treatment though and he has only corrupted data. And I figured out how I could fix it! I simply wiped out their old data from the character file, recreated the exact same copy of each one and added new, fully compatible with the released version data. And they no longer crash bodyshop nor show any signs of glitches. I'm still not 100% sure it'd be safe to resurrect and play them, but I wasn't going to anyway. My point is to simply find all glitches, fix them and start playing. Though sometimes it feels that I'll never start :D Thank God I've chosen Veronaville as my fav base game 'hood and not Strangetown Thank you for responding and giving hints, by the way! :з
@@victorgoth1904 oh wow! that’s SO COOL. i wish you the best of luck with your future findings and fixings! with the capp script, pentawa on tumblr deserves all the credit. even though i noticed there was no scripted event for the capps because i had to keep exiting without saving and reloading each time i never would’ve thought to look at tokens on the lot. if anything, i would’ve thought a token would be somewhat responsible for scripted events, not the reason why they _weren’t_ running. yep - the sims wiki reports the same thing about cordelia. really cool to hear about the specifics, and the fact that the original data still exists. it was so long ago that i dug around her file that i can’t really remember much about it lol. it makes sense since cordelia’s face won’t be corrupted when she’s resurrected, but the thumbnail in her character file does show her with a corrupted appearance. guessing her face was updated but the saved thumbnail didn’t refresh; iirc in the base game the portraits rarely if ever changed poses, and it wasn’t until a later ep when they would regenerate every time after changing clothes or appearance. interesting how cordelia was the only one fixed though. glad you were able to fix it! difficult to say for sure if they’d be totally safe, but clean template creators do usually add full character data to all ancestors and make them safe to resurrect, so i’d imagine there may not be much fiddling needed to bring cordelia and caliban to an okay state. their main problems are lack of personalities, corrupted faces (which you’ve been able to fix!), and their physical death tokens, but other than that i’d argue they’re on the ‘fixable’ side especially since they’re not unlinked and their character data, whilst not quite complete, wasn’t shredded. the trickier fixes lie in the ancestors with no character data who pretty much need recreating entirely. i’m a ‘better safe than sorry’ kinda player so i’d be way too terrified to clean them up myself and resurrect them, but since your mission is to fix all the glitches you can and you aren’t intending to play them then honestly it’s worth a try. plus you definitely know what you’re doing! no problem! ☺️
@@tanicsims2 at first I didn't even know that scripted events were a thing, despite obviously experiencing them while playing pre-made families. And I never paid attention to Capps specifically until watching Pleasant Sims' video about Veronaville scripted events. I'm really glad it can be fixed The thing is, I'm recreating them not only for fixing, but for changing thumbnails to better looking ones. I have a lot of default replacements and I want my sims' ancestors to look updated too. Plus Caliban and Cordelia are really cute with good graphics. It might sound really funny, but I actually had less problems restoring the 'no character data' ancestors than Caliban's corrupted face. There's a guide on the sims wiki for that and some talented (and determined xd) simmers recreated every incomplete ancestor so their data can be restored. I still have to update their thumbnails though... It's gonna be a long road before I dive in the teen romance drama :D Oh, and perhaps you know about one other thing. While canonically Cordelia is Consort and Contessa's youngest child (Consort's memories and Capp's appearance in The Sims 3 prove it), she is considered the oldest child in the family tree. And it's also the thing with Claudio Monty. He's also the youngest, but considered the oldest. From what I understand, Maxis' original plan for story was to make both Juliette and Romeo heirs to their families so that it would be even more dramatic, but the idea got scrapped, I guess? The question is, can I somehow edit the family tree so that Goneril gets her rightful place as the oldest Capp child?
hmm... my immediate thought would be fiddling with famt in simpe. could you possibly unlink then relink the ties in the correct order? or could they be dragged/moved around at all? if you haven’t figured it out already i can investigate sometime today. i think one of the clean template creators was able to sort the trees out so goneril would show as the eldest but i’m 99% sure that was lordcrumps who _i think_ completely recreated veronaville from scratch rather than tweaking the original hood like meetmetotheriver did, and like what you’re doing at the moment. again, i wish you well with your endeavours!
no need to thank me, thank YOU for watching ❤️ that’s so sweet! i often worry i get a bit dramatic because i’m not used to this (this sort of thing doesn’t happen to me, and i definitely wasn’t expecting so many people to find my content!) but i really do mean every single word! 🥺
6:46 That's a normal thing when turning sim into adult with (I think) insimenator. It just changes the sim aspiration from whatever to family. Not sure why tho And I loved your video. I really am into the sims 2 and I know a lot but I still managed to learn quite a lot from your video. I'm already subscribed and I'm gonna watch the rest of your series And the end reminded me I should upload my stuff to MTS or Tumblr where it can be seen, unlike just having links to Mediafire xd
you’re right! i realised after watching a video by calipers and tongs where the same thing happened to their sim when they used insim, then i saw it happen again when ageing calpurnia down to adult since she’s meant to be romance. by the time i realised that part of the video was completely done and i forgot to go back and cut the writing out because i am a Dummy thank you so much!! my goal with this series is to cover absolutely everything from the most well-known problems to the obscure so i am so glad i’ve achieved that. i learned a lot too so i had a great time researching and compiling everything together. it’s great to know my videos have been helpful and brought attention to things people never really talk about! you absolutely should! do you make custom content/mods or other content like photos/videos documenting your game? either way i’d love to check it out! ❤️
@@tanicsims2 It's fine, everyone forgets something sometimes. Your video was still great :3 I make genetically accurate neighborhoods (kinda like the one you recommended but a little different) and I have a series on my channel of playing a small megahood of 3 genetically corrected base game neighborhoods I don't think I'll add more hoods to that megahood but I plan to make more genetically corrected neighborhoods (made Bluewater Village somewhat recently) All links are in descriptions but I consider uploading them to MTS or Tumblr at some point
I got an idea, well experiment. How about copy the families by recreating them in CAS again and Remove all broken families. Is it possible to do with out corrupting the neighborhood? Yes sound like a long LOOOONG time to play till you reach actual status XD. But I am curious XD
@@tanicsims2 i've probably watched all of them about twice, i'm obsessed with corruption and my girlfriend is obsessed with me rambling about it, so i'm watching it a third time so i can explain things to her also it goes without saying i love your content! you put so much work into your videos and i'm always eager to watch more lol
Nothing to do with Veronaville but if you dig deep down you can find lots of unused and missing items that were supposed to ship with Sims 2, They found an early splash screen, CAS podium, build mode objects, and much more, but someone in the sims 2 discord server found the remains of hidden inhabitants of a scrapped sims 2 neighborhood.
woa! how interesting, especially the last part about the scrapped neighbourhood. i don’t use discord, so by any chance do you have more information about this? really cool stuff, thanks for telling me✨
@@tanicsims2 The info is very scarce because this has only been discovered now but there were a few pictures of the old inhabitants and the hair looks very old and clayish, I could redownload sims 2 and go digging through Sim PE for more evidence
aaa oh my gosh really 🥺 thank you so much! this means the world! you don’t need to thank me - i just make -these videos as an excuse to infodump- the content i’d be interested in watching, because this game is also my favourite thing in the world! 🥺
@@tanicsims2 a good excuse! i know myself and so many others who absolutely adore your content. they're really good and in depth videos, thank you for your contributions to the community
i’m speechless 😭 every word of your comment is just so lovely that i don’t even know how to adequately respond. ‘thank you’ just isn’t good enough to describe how much this means to me. to be told i contribute to this community after dedicating almost two decades of my life to this game is an absolute honour. thank YOU for being kind, and i hope you have a wonderful day or night 🥺❤️
aaa thank you so much! (i love your picture btw! though i got spooked out because i use that same pic on another account and thought i’d commented on my own video 🤣)
yeah, the zodiac-aspiration system isn’t for everyone! i’ve also seen someone tweak it to include pleasure (gemini and sagittarius) which i’ve been considering for my own hood, so you could always adapt it - or just ignore it completely! it’s just the system maxis uses for townies/npcs (especially if they’re unique generated in-game sims) and some ancestors, plus i only really use it because -i’m a libra- i’m indecisive and wouldn’t be able to choose an aspiration for all my sims so it helps just having a predetermined system hahaha. but that’s the beauty of this game - we all play differently!
I'm all over the place with the aspirations I assign to my sims, usually it's just whatever type of sim I want to play in the next generation. Sometimes I'll give them an aspiration based on what they may have lacked growing up (for example, a child with a messed up family may develop the family aspiration, a child who didn't have many friends may develop popularity, etc)
I didn't know that deleting sims caused corruption. Now I'm thinking about all the pre-made sims and graves I've deleted in my hood. Whoops. I haven't seen any issued yet.
The Sims 2 quirks are my religion. This game is 17 years old and we still find out things about it.
This is why I love the Sims 2. There are so many things I haven’t discovered after so long
The fact that I’m only a year older then this game scares me
I think because we were all young when this came out, that now that we’re older, we can actually research it lol
Happy 20th birthday to the queen and the legend the sims 2 😢
April Black did a deep dive on corruption and how the game handles deleted, dead or binned Sims.
Take a look and you may find a lot of context on what happened to those vanished Sims.
HIGHLIGHT. Sims that are deleted from the bin or have their graves deleted leave 'stub' files, which keep only enough for the game to reference relationships and other vital references. This is why the game 'fills in the blanks' and leaves those resurrected sims in such an odd state.
That's great that you reference her video! I was about to do so, lol.
April did such a good job of explaining everything!
Wow this is so in depth! I actually didn't know there was a scripted event in the Capp household being blocked by tokens.
waaa thank you 🥺 i realised maybe halfway into getting footage that there was no scripted event, since i would have to enter the capp household a lot and i would exit without saving each time. it seemed like a massive oversight and an anomaly so i wanted to investigate, just in case it was actually a feature and not a bug for once lol. sure enough, i found pentawa’s tutorial explaining that there should be a scripted event as detailed in the primaguide, only a token was present in the lot preventing it from running... for some reason. i never would’ve found it myself so i owe pentawa a lot; even when i noticed there was no scripted event, i never would’ve known to go into the lot’s memory and remove a token. if anything, i would’ve thought a token would be responsible for running the script - not blocking it!
@@jamiemohan2049 yeah and literally everybody in the neighborhood would end up related if u played the way maxis intended
@@clorviaz You need a LOT of townie blood in there to prevent the family trees from looking like tumbleweeds 😂

The shredded data does not attach to anything, practically leaving a sim shell instead of a nuclear warhead.
right, i know this now and i’m aiming to rectify this & correct this misconception in current and future videos ☺️
Glad i could help
@@skarpevindkast It was April Black who cleared that up, so you don't need to say any "you're welcomes" or nothing. :)
I feel like the corruption surrounding deleted sims is a good representation of what would really happen if a person was suddenly erased from the timeline.
thank you for showing how to fix the broken capp scripted event i havent seen anyone else talk about how to fix it and i just accepted that i’ll never get to play it until now
oh no need to thank me - all credit goes to pentawa. i’m just a messenger relaying their tutorial - i probably would have never figured it out on my own!
i’ve been playing the sims for 14 yrs. im freaking 22 now. love your channel so much
oh! we’re similar in age! i’m almost 24 and been playing ts2 about 15 years too. never imagined i’d be here almost two decades later making vids about it... or that there’d still be an active and wonderful community! for all its flaws and borkage, it really is timeless. thank you so much for your kind words 🥺❤️
I’m the same! It goes to show how amazing the Sims 2 is, the fact we can play for so many years and STILL love the game!
Same, but I’ve been playing it since I was like 8 or 9 😅
I'm just if wondering if some of the deleted sims are ones that were used in the storytelling images.
IT’S HERE! She took her time, but How Corrupt is Veronaville Anyway is FINALLY HERE! 🥳 Thank you all SO MUCH for your patience and continuous support. Knowing how many people were excited for this has encouraged me and made me realise exactly why I wanted to make these videos and share them online ❤️
As mentioned at the end of this video, we have now covered all three of the base game hoods - and it’s up to you to decide which hood comes next!
Once again, I’m so sorry that this video took so long, and I thank you all for your patience and understanding.
I still feel a little emotional looking at Mootilda's posts… RIP :(

@@tanicsims2 The daughter's name is Helena btw, but currently Regan is pregnant, and if she has a daughter it'll be named Viola, so fingers crossed!
@@alexhowlett3100 When you exit to the neighborhood without saving and reload the family the gender plus the hair, eye and skin color of the baby might change. You can use that to your advantage
This is a core thing to avoid the first-born syndrome, so just out of curiosity, do you know what it is?
@@x1y8z I know what first-born syndrome is, but I didn't need to save and reload, Regan had a girl first try, and so Viola Capp was born. But honestly, the more and more I think about it, I'm seriously considering switching Viola and Helena's names around. What do you think?
i was only 3 months old when sims 2 was released but i have very fond memories watching my older sister playing the sims 2, she always chalked up the glitches she experienced to our old family computer but watching these videos makes what happened to her saves so much clearer now!
What I'm getting from these videos is that Maxis really fucked up by giving pre-made hood sims such extensive ancestral family trees xD I get that they were trying to show off this new feature and create depth and backstories for the pre-made sims, but they definitely goofed hahaha.
it’s definitely possible that they never playtested long enough to understand the ramifications of shredding ancestor’s character data, especially since symptoms of corruption can take years to manifest. plus there’s the added explanation of resurrection not being possible until the first ep, although i did see a maxoid confirm the number of eps for the game shortly before ts2 was released on the sims network site. it makes me wonder if the developers were aware resurrection was going to be included in an ep, or if it was not set in stone yet. this is conjecture on my part, but maxoidtom also admitted in the dna thread on mts that he had not banked on players being able to access parts of the code such as dna; if maxis had not considered players creating a tool to dig into character data, it is possible this extends to ancestors. there are a lot of features shipped with the game and were never patched out that we now know cause hood corruption, such as moving occupied lots to the bin, moving sims to another neighbourhood, deleting families, etc. so i don’t think it’s too far fetched to say that maxis were unable to foresee these problems in the spaghetti coding. the game was ambitious and complex, shipped with _1.1 million lines of code_ , and unfortunately sometimes that’s to its detriment. somehow this doesn’t stop me from regularly playing and loving this game with all of my heart, and i’ll always encourage new and returning players to try it 😭
After April Black's deep dive on the code and the games reactions to data loss, it turns out that the game is a lot more stable then we expected.
To be fair, they weren't expecting simmers to resurrect the dead relatives and poking through the game's code. 😂
The smille of escribonia Will haunt my dreams forever.
scribonia, cleopatra/calpurnia, and mouth head capp all take turns being my sleep paralysis demon
Ok the mouth in the forehead is weird, but calpurnia is uncanny valley sort of...
Those are some tasteful names for timestamps; really gives a video a whole new feeling if you keep them in mind while watching
hahaha no one’s really commented on them! they’re all shakespeare quotes! i mostly just did it to be dramatic (and because i love shakespeare) 🤣 but it was weirdly easy to find quotes that fit!
(I'm a sucker for the Tricou family and the rest of the Downtownies so I voted Downtown but I'd definitely love to see Tutorial and the scrapped neighborhood deep dives eventually 💖)
Ooo, shoutout to the Lordcrumps GC version of Veronaville. Using it in my Uberhood (and made a custom subhood that adds the VV townies and npcs, I have 1346 sims in this uberhood send help) and it's delightful.
thank you so much, it’s always great to read your comments 🥺 while i feel like i’m just a messenger relaying findings and explanations from players much more talented and intelligent than i and don’t know if i deserve any credit, i thought it was important to compile everything into one place since most of the information is just scattered across individual sim pages on the wiki or forums from over 10 years ago. honestly i just started making these vids because i know this is how i personally would want all the information presented to me and wondered if it would be helpful for others. plus i need EVERYTHING explained as in-depth as possible lol. i’m like a kid who answers ‘why’ to absolutely everything 🤣 never thought anyone would be interested in anything i had to say (in places where i do add my own input, and even then i keep that to a minimum not only because i’m really not an expert but also because i want to invite everyone to share their own thoughts and draw their own conclusions) or found across the web, but hey, here we are hahaha
(downtown is winning the vote, so looks like it’ll be next! knowing me though, i will most likely make the other two videos eventually, possibly as specials after all the main playable hoods and subhoods have been covered. i like covering things that don’t really get talked about much, so really the poll just decides the order of the videos rather than whether or not i actually do them 🤣)
thought i’d give it a mention since it looks so cool! if i understand the description correctly, it was created in a totally clean environment so it’s more a replication of veronaville (may be COMPLETELY wrong/misunderstanding) meaning it’s as safe and sterile as a hood can be. main downside is that there are no townies though, but another commenter said they make their own unique townies with shakespearean names which i thought was a really cool idea and a great alternative, especially if you want the dna corrected! also i would probably move bianca and antonio’s family out of the houses lordcrumps placed them in - i downloaded these cute starter homes that were designed to go on the rural side of veronaville, perfect for the riverbank. other than that it sounds so tempting! glad you’re enjoying it! (p.s. a megahood omg... i don’t know how players cope. i can barely cope with my pleasantview and that only has about 800 sims/character files in total, the majority probably just being townies and stealth hood sims generated before i downloaded empty templates. as for playable sims, i’d wager there’d be about 200 if not more atm. anyway point is, i am IN AWE and i wish you a lot of happiness playing your megahood!)
Even if others found and guided you first, you're still putting in plenty of work to search far and wide to compile, plus you take the time to look into the info on your own as well and in many cases, replicate situations for accuracy. Not to mention all the footage and screenshots gathered and editing done. I'd say credit earned 😉
The vote prompted me to watch Calipers video on making the tutorial hood playable and I ended up diving into it in SimPE and giving it a run in hoodchecker.
My favourite base game hood, so problematic 🧡 gotta love her
Great video btw!

I'd love to see the scrapped Neighbhourhoods, I heard they exist as a recreation and I haven't gotten around yet.
an additional detail that i found interesting: the wiki states that it's possible that two of the sims who were deleted were puck's biological parents, who are seen in the storytelling pictures for the summerdream family 🤔 great video! 😊

aww thank you so much, both for the kind words and for subscribing! i like to compare corruption in this game to lost media. even though lost media can refer to things as innocuous as an unaired kid’s tv show pilot, the very term itself conjures up some creepy feelings. the word ‘corruption’ adds this whole new horror factor that general words like ‘glitches’ or ‘bugs’ don’t imo. it also feels more specific to this game. hope that made sense hahaha. but yes, welcome to the circus - it’s great to have you here! 🤗
TANIC JUST DROPPED NEW CORRUPTION VIDEO, LETS GOOOOO
feels like coming home 🥰
this channel is a goldmine, thank you
I knew about the sims with mouths on their foreheads, but I did not know about all the weird Sim-deletion effects in VVille.
There are fun little things like seeing Bianca's beta bio in Hamlet Dane's character data, leftover from when that file originally belonged to her.
oh wow! pentawa hi! thank you SO much for your excellent tutorial on fixing the capp script. since i had to keep reloading the capp household i soon noticed there was no scripted event, and when i went to investigate i found your tutorial. i never would’ve known how to find the problem myself. and yes - the deleted sims section was my absolute favourite to research and record because of all the tiny crumbs left in the files, such as bianca’s previous bio in hamlet’s catalog description and the note that new bianca was copied over from user_00011 hamlet’s character file. since viola has now had a page made for her on the sims wiki and showed where the reference to her in the lot’s code can be found, i inspected the file and it was so cool seeing the furniture, controllers, and even references to some capp family members (as well as viola). it made me open up basically every other package file in the hood in hopes that i’d find more crumbs lol. thank you so much again! really great to see you here 🤗
Great video! How interesting with the overwritten NIDs. Also, my heartbeat rate at 29:39 to 29:44...

Same here Veronaville was my least played it was boring to me back in the day.
These are my absolute favorite videos.
Great video, so informative and fun! I'm in awe of your work!
aaaaa really ,, wow... you’re one of my favourite sims 2 content creators so this is a major honour! THANK YOU SO MUCH! ❤️
That's really interesting from the perspective of the game development
Thank you
oh i’m so glad!! yeah this game randomly adds flags for no reason sometimes lol. i had a similar situation in my pleasantview where alexander goth’s son suddenly thought he was engaged to his first cousin once removed whom he’d never even met. i checked in simpe and for some reason he had the engaged box checked but it wasn’t reciprocated lol. but yeah it can be really finicky and sometimes just having the family flag in srels won’t affect sims’ ability to be romantic (like in veronaville) if the relationship isn’t reflected in famt whereas other times the srel resource is enough to... override? almost? famt. really glad to hear that this information helped you!
thank you so much! all the information is scattered across individual wiki pages and forums from like 10 years ago so most of the time it takes to make these videos is spent compiling it all lmao. they’re so fun to make and research that it doesn’t really feel like work haha! but yeah i am just a messenger relaying discoveries and information from much more talented and cleverer players than i so you don’t have to thank me, but it is really nice and i appreciate it 🥺❤️
ive fallen deep into a sims phase so these videos give me life
10:05 i played with characters file in simpe for long time and didn't even realized the neighborhood numbers are different tf
interestingly i always thought that orginally hermia and tybalt was going to be juliette's cousin instead of sibling because they were both created at the same time with regan and goneril's family respectively
Thank you for another in depth video! And I'm so happy about your success here ☺️💓
aww no need to thank me, thank YOU for watching ❤️ thank you so much! i still can’t believe it’s actually happening to me!
Oh shit, that Sims 2 for PSP intro brings back memories.
"It's me, I'm players"....yup I'm obligated to subscribe now.
I would love to see you do videos on everything mentioned at the end, but I would love to see a downtown video next.
wow... thank you so much for sharing your experience! it was a great read, so never apologise for its length ❤️
what an ABSOLUTE HONOUR to even be mentioned in the same sentence as three fantastic creators and contributors to the sims 2 community. all of them are my inspirations, so while i don't know if i am worthy it is a huge compliment and means so much -i may have teared up when i initially read this comment before going to sleep last night- i probably mention it during my very sappy outro, but my dream was always to inspire others to play this game, and learn about its borkage without feeling discouraged from playing it. knowing i've achieved that, knowing if there's even just one person out there who saw my video and not only thought 'huh, that wasn't a total waste of my time' but also encouraged them to open up origin or dig out their old discs... that's the definition of success for me.
to share my own experience (though i promise to keep it as brief as i possibly can, because i have A LOT to say about this game lol. it could easily warrant its own essay or almost hour long video 🤣) - i was one of those original players you mention who played ts1 first, then discovered ts2. my earliest memories of the sims are from 2003, playing console versions (namely urbz and ts1 console), and then playing ts1 on the pc a year later. i distinctly remember owning a collection called triple deluxe, and that was apparently released in 2004. i would have only been about 6/7. basically the majority of my life has revolved around this game lol. can't really remember a time where i _wasn't_ playing the sims in some form. in either 2005 or 2006 my best friend showed me the cool new pc game she got - it was the sequel to one of my own favourite games! she showed me the specter household because she was into creepy things and wanted me to see the ghosts, and i was TERRIFIED. even now the specter household spooks me because it was my first experience of ts2 as a child. most of all though, i remember being fascinated by the fact that the household contained an elder and a teenager. wow, actual age groups! i liked to make my own family on ts1, and it would always annoy me how i had to make my older siblings, who were teenagers at the time, as adults, so the game wasn't able to discern who my child simself's parents were and would send my sister to pick me up from another household for example. not only that, but the sims my friend showed me were auntie and niece! people aren't exaggerating when they say ts2 was groundbreaking; it really was. it was a HUGE jump from ts1 to ts2 in so many ways. pretty sure i call the addition of genetics and family ties the game's usp in either this video or another video, and i truly mean that. it was such a big deal. and the trailer... omg. i got my cousin into ts2 and i had the dvd version of the base game, so we'd watch the dvd basically every night i slept over at hers. your comment has unlocked so many memories hahaha
that's so interesting about the moustache glitch! i've never heard about it so i'm definitely going to go down this rabbithole later. honestly i can imagine this being fixed in a patch, if only because a patch note along the lines of '[doing certain action in cas] will no longer lead to daughters being born with moustaches' would fit right in 🤣
again, thank you for your interesting comment and lovely words! i'm always up for a discussion about ts2 so feel free to come to me with even more memories/experiences if you'd feel comfortable! downtown is winning the vote so it's going to be next, but honestly the poll really just decides the order i release the videos, mainly to gauge what everyone's most interested in watching. i'm considering making the tutorial and beta hoods' deep dives after covering all subhoods and ep hoods, maybe as special videos since they are more speculative!!
Well done!
aww you don’t have to thank me! thank YOU for being so lovely! 🥺
An hour long video all about the corrupted data of the premade hoods?! DON'T MIND IF I DO THIS IS AMAZING 💓

These empty NPCs share alot with sims 4 Sims.
lmfao
honestly, i know a shit ton about the sims 3, but i've never explored ts2 that much. these videos are great resources for me!
@@tanicsims2 oh wow, i knew ts2 had a rocky development but i never realized it was this bad. still amazes me that they managed to make a good game after all of that.
i suggest going downtown, since Riverside or whatever was only ever shown off in videos , so we have pretty much nothing to work off of
Thank you for your hard work ❤️ I really enjoyed this video!
aww no need to thank me! it took a long time but i had a lot of fun putting it together ❤️ thank you! so glad you enjoyed!
And now I’m obsessed with Viola theory…
I was looking at ancestral sims on the wiki and came across Angelo Capitano. WHAT IS THAT JAW?!?!!
Oh! I brought back Cordellia Capp and didn't even notice she was corrputed. Shes just a zombie in mine
I'm interested in downtown most, mainly because of that spooky house
Great work as always!
thank you so much! 🥺❤️
It’s so nice to see someone else as interested in corruption and buggy things! These videos are great, huge thanks for creating content like that
Also I’ve been wondering, since you know about base game neighborhoods corruption so much, if you have an idea how to fix corrupted appearances.
Though sometimes it feels that I'll never start :D
Thank God I've chosen Veronaville as my fav base game 'hood and not Strangetown
Thank you for responding and giving hints, by the way!
I'm really glad it can be fixed
The thing is, I'm recreating them not only for fixing, but for changing thumbnails to better looking ones.
It's gonna be a long road before I dive in the teen romance drama :D
Oh, and perhaps you know about one other thing.
Yessssssss got my pizza and soda I’m ready ✨✨✨✨

That's a normal thing when turning sim into adult with (I think) insimenator. It just changes the sim aspiration from whatever to family. Not sure why tho
And I loved your video. I really am into the sims 2 and I know a lot but I still managed to learn quite a lot from your video. I'm already subscribed and I'm gonna watch the rest of your series
And the end reminded me I should upload my stuff to MTS or Tumblr where it can be seen, unlike just having links to Mediafire xd
you’re right! i realised after watching a video by calipers and tongs where the same thing happened to their sim when they used insim, then i saw it happen again when ageing calpurnia down to adult since she’s meant to be romance. by the time i realised that part of the video was completely done and i forgot to go back and cut the writing out because i am a Dummy
thank you so much!! my goal with this series is to cover absolutely everything from the most well-known problems to the obscure so i am so glad i’ve achieved that. i learned a lot too so i had a great time researching and compiling everything together. it’s great to know my videos have been helpful and brought attention to things people never really talk about!
you absolutely should! do you make custom content/mods or other content like photos/videos documenting your game? either way i’d love to check it out! ❤️

It's fine, everyone forgets something sometimes. Your video was still great :3
I make genetically accurate neighborhoods (kinda like the one you recommended but a little different) and I have a series on my channel of playing a small megahood of 3 genetically corrected base game neighborhoods
I don't think I'll add more hoods to that megahood but I plan to make more genetically corrected neighborhoods (made Bluewater Village somewhat recently)
All links are in descriptions but I consider uploading them to MTS or Tumblr at some point
I got an idea, well experiment. How about copy the families by recreating them in CAS again and Remove all broken families. Is it possible to do with out corrupting the neighborhood? Yes sound like a long LOOOONG time to play till you reach actual status XD. But I am curious XD
Cordelia got off lucky with the fixed face unlike every other ancestor

no way! i’m always amazed when people watch my video once, let alone rewatch my videos 😭 welcome back hahaha
@@tanicsims2 i've probably watched all of them about twice, i'm obsessed with corruption and my girlfriend is obsessed with me rambling about it, so i'm watching it a third time so i can explain things to her
also it goes without saying i love your content! you put so much work into your videos and i'm always eager to watch more lol
Congratulations for the video 🤩👏
For a split second i thought the intro was an advert
Nothing to do with Veronaville but if you dig deep down you can find lots of unused and missing items that were supposed to ship with Sims 2, They found an early splash screen, CAS podium, build mode objects, and much more, but someone in the sims 2 discord server found the remains of hidden inhabitants of a scrapped sims 2 neighborhood.
woa! how interesting, especially the last part about the scrapped neighbourhood. i don’t use discord, so by any chance do you have more information about this? really cool stuff, thanks for telling me✨
@@tanicsims2 The info is very scarce because this has only been discovered now but there were a few pictures of the old inhabitants and the hair looks very old and clayish, I could redownload sims 2 and go digging through Sim PE for more evidence
great vid!!! i'm always pleased with your uploads. thank you so much for making amazing content about my favorite game in the whole world
aaa oh my gosh really 🥺 thank you so much! this means the world! you don’t need to thank me - i just make -these videos as an excuse to infodump- the content i’d be interested in watching, because this game is also my favourite thing in the world!
I love your videos! Sooo in depth!
aaa thank you so much! (i love your picture btw! though i got spooked out because i use that same pic on another account and thought i’d commented on my own video 🤣)
I don’t think the aspirations really match up with a lot of the signs though so I choose based on what I want for them
yeah, the zodiac-aspiration system isn’t for everyone! i’ve also seen someone tweak it to include pleasure (gemini and sagittarius) which i’ve been considering for my own hood, so you could always adapt it - or just ignore it completely! it’s just the system maxis uses for townies/npcs (especially if they’re unique generated in-game sims) and some ancestors, plus i only really use it because -i’m a libra- i’m indecisive and wouldn’t be able to choose an aspiration for all my sims so it helps just having a predetermined system hahaha. but that’s the beauty of this game - we all play differently!
