    I was the one who asked for the CN gp40-2w. Thank you so much for running it , i loved it!! Always look forward to your videos

      it's a pretty sick loco. sounds good, looks good. i'm going to do a little bit of light weathering to bring out the truck details. only one complaint - i had to add the BLMA snowplows because it didn't come with them! Seems like a weird thing for Atlas to leave off - especially since the actual loco has them.

      He only runs US kit - I loved that bit... I only run Canadian (with 2 British locos just because)! 🙂

    Awesome layout. Love the snow scene

    I always enjoy your videos 👍👌👏. I want one of the CN GP40-2W too. I've got a Kato ES44AC CN but my local paper mill has the 4 axle CN and GT's that service the mill's box cars and chemical tankers.
    Love your trains and layout and your discussions 😊

      If you can find somewhere that has this model, it's definitely worth the price. a quick google actually shows MicroMark with it on sale for $199 now and that was the best price i found. don't forget, you'll need separately applied snow plows!

      Thanks for the tips. I found some at Hiawatha Hobbies also but just different road numbers. I cannot find a blue GT model. That would be a complete switching consist that is near me. I have found a blue GT S2 Alco though@@AlleghenyNorthern

      @@NitroStarGT so maybe i'm the weird one here but it seems like manufacturers are limiting runs on things. so pre-world insanity, i feel like you could buy a loco and months later buy a second to add to your collection. now, it seems more like you need to buy everything you want in one shot because in a couple weeks they're going to be sold out and that's it. perhaps that's just good marketing and making only what the market is anticipated to need - but it really sucks when you're trying to make a specific train like you are and you can only purchase one component and hope the other is available later...

      @@AlleghenyNorthern I agree and I've only been in this for a short time. Under further investigation, the locals are GP 38-2's which makes it nigh impossible to find in N Scale currently unless it's a small brand or something. I like the longer hoods on the 38's from looking at photos of 1:1's.

    I like your new industry , I am scratch building an electric furnace for my steel mill complex. My plan is to have it under construction so I can on op night have different loads. On Face book, i joined a group N Scale vehicles and trucks hoping to get Ideas for trucks and equipment. To answer your question: No you can not have too many Locos!!

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      i got off facebook about four years ago - too much trash on there and i was sick of it. seems like everyone started cool groups after i left LOL! i keep telling myself i can never have too many locos, then i try to store them and go... well... i either have too many or not enough track for the ones i have. i think it's the latter.

    You work is awsome
    Quetion for you...as soon to he retiree in mid 60's do you think an N Scale KATO UNITRACK Layout is doable at my age ?? Plan to weather and ballast track for realism. Thanks in advance for your Advice

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Absolutely. Kato Unitrack is the best system for getting started in my opinion. lots of track geometry options and endless expansion possibilities. the plastic roadbed is decent and with a little work, you can make it look good on a layout. Most importantly, it lets you play with the layout without committing to anything until you start scenery . you can keep changing the track until you get something you like without having to rip up flex track and cork roadbed.

    Where are your signals from?

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The signals are kits from Showcase Miniatures. They're wonderful but take a little bit of skill to assemble. SM does not sell the 'brains' to make them functional, just the signal and LED kits - so you'll need to source that elsewhere. The mast assembly, hood, and LED panel are all separate parts but each signal can be assembled for about $25. They have different options depending on what you want to model.

    Do you know if there is a standard size, and or track prep, or laying for these modules you see at these club layouts. Maybe NMRA standard that these clubs go by..... great updates to your layout also.... I always love to see your videos. And you have been such a great help and inspiration to me ! And I am truly sorry if I keep bugging you on these questions... love the new iron works scrap steel facility ! The name fits it well !

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks! The modular layouts do have standards. I know of T-trak, Ntrak, and Free-Mo standards. I can't tell you the specifics but I did a quick Google and they all popped up. T-track is based on Kato Unitrack, the others i think are Flex/Sectional track based. There may be others out there, but those are the three i'm aware of. And I'm sure some clubs just break all the rules and make their own but i'm guessing those are the outliers.

    Nice update , not to boast but when I counted my locos had atleast 500 most are DC because they are old but still a nice collection they all run either DC or DCC !

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      the shear thought of having to convert that many locos to DCC/Sound makes me want to take up a new hobby.

    Pikestuff kits are great for creating your own industrial complex…nice work…like you, I have quite a few “unglamorous“ things that need to get done…gotta push my way through them…nice dash 8’s…

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      those unglamorous things are the ones that make our railroads run though. bench work and wiring are my least favorite things. Those kits didn't kitbash as nice as i hoped but in the end, it only too a few stray bits from the extras box to pull it together. a few more and i'll call it good. I love my dash 8s - especially the yellow plows.

    Hi C Mastracci , thanks for the update. I did pick up 2 of those C 39-8 bought in N S brand. I know what you mean by going under for the next few months all those per orders come in. I have 3 SD 40-2s from scale trains coming next week. I have some Atlas and Intermountain coming around the end of April. On top of that I had to get new glasses. I do want to ask you about MTL couplers. What do you refer 1015 short shank or 1016 medium shank. Which do you think works the best. I do like your introduction to your videos. Thanks for sharing. Have a good week. 😎😎. 👍

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      oh i'm going broke for sure. definitely getting the big boy and i have i think two SD40-2 coming... but i might need a third. because... of reasons. i use both the short and medium shanks because i try to keep a nice prototypical close-couple but sometimes the curves on the layout just don't allow for it on the longer cars and longer wheel base locos and i have to go with the medium for the swing. i keep both on hand, just in case. I'm getting ready to replace the truck mount couplers with body mount on some of my coal hoppers as soon as my drill bits arrive this weekend - those will be short shank because i can get them close to the end of the car and need the tight coupling. my kato locos usually get the medium shank couplers otherwise they rip the trailing car off the track on my curves.
