I think the reason you have to fly faster at high altitude is that, in real life, because the air gets thinner at higher altitudes, planes have to compensate with extra thrust because the thin air doesn't generate enough lift. Cool Detail.
A thing worth noting is that the red enemy ace fighters you encounter in the game called Z.O.E. (Zone of Endless) is actually a series of aircrafts carrying autonomous super Ai, which in a way is Ace Combat's counterpart of Armored Core's Nine Ball, they might be a little less important in this game but you'll get to see them again having much more impact on the story in the future titles
IDK why you told em that so early, it takes many games for that retcon to get important. And FYI, its not just taking one of the ZOEs down, its taking em all down in the game to get the proper ending.
Ace Combat 3D Cross Rumble for the Nintendo 3DS (Assault Horizon Legacy in the US) is a remake of this game, with a story that's recontextualized in the wider universe of Strangereal. That game makes Ace Combat 2 take place canonically about a few years right after the Belkan War, and features a civil war on the Usean continent (the same continent as AC04.)
Fun fact: This game has a Nintendo 3DS remake subtitled Assault Horizon Legacy/3D Cross Rumble. It adds new gameplay elements, new features and adds story elements that were established in the PS2 Ace Combat games.
while Air Combat was a fun arcade flight game, that held the core gameplay loop for the franchise. Ace Combat 2 as it's name suggests is where it started to become "Ace Combat". things like those post-mission recaps are a staple that stays around and only becomes more entertaining as time goes on, the planes will keep getting better both looks and feels wise, and having rival Aces that feel significantly better than the grunts are like pb&j for this franchise. glad to see you are taking people's advice to play the English patched version of the Japanese release for the next entry. because "Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere" is where the developers finally got comfy enough to take off their training wheels & went off the rails. where multiple series staples would find their footing. put your headphones on kiddos, listen to some tasty tunes and strap yourself into the cockpit, the simillarities between Armored Core and Ace Combat are going to get wild
I also started getting into the Ace Combat franchise last year, by playing the PS1 games first, and it's pretty cool to see my thoughts echoed by your reviews.
Loving your recaps a lot. You mentioned these games having some banger tracks so far; music’s an important part of the game for a lot of people. Would it be too much to ask for a little segment or comment on some of your favorite ones from each game as you continue along, or to faintly overlay some of the ones you liked in the background or something of the like?
I've just finished the game and also went directly to the golden ending by accident. It's sort of odd having enemy aces named in the briefings rather than do esoteric stuff to unlock them so I eded up killing all of them including the one that unlocked the optional endings. Also being able to map the joystick properly made it much more fun to play than Air Combat, I hate flying with digital controls in general.
Another really interesting review. Something that's not covered enough is the amount of graphical fidelity that can be achieved within the same hardware. Improving games on every level without breaking the things that made it great in the first place has to feel like an achievement for the developers.
The huge jump up from "PSX tech demo" AC1 and the game aged so freaking well it is still enjoyable, so did Namco think and they released the remake Sony should have made this on PS Classic with Dualshock controllers, such a disgrace to this masterpiece
Holy shit, a lot of things and mechanics that only get perfected later that i never thought would be introduced so early Maybe this is why it's the first actual "Ace Combat" entry Also the Z.O.E. planes showing up at the end too, never thought they had plans for that story thread so early
@@nicolasillarnizzi Yeah, and those song became Rigel/Varcolac ost went intercept in Joint Assault PSP and especially with neat remake in Cross Rumble on 3DS
AC2 is my favorite AC (alongside Assault Horizon Legacy+ [3ds remake of 2] and 3) so this video being so positive is nice to see and pretty much has my opinions on it tho if I made this 70% of it would've been me gushing about the graphics and music (Sunset Glows bass line alone is so good it makes some other full OSTs weep.)
Nice review, I really enjoyed these two and surely will the next ones! Will you play the handheld games too? Not the nokia or gameboy ones but at least X I heard is a must play. The first three, and the handheld are the only ones I haven't played so these videos are incredibly interesting, and I'm ready for the nostalgia trip too! < See you there, buddy >
@@notcole Mentioned this on a comment in the previous video but I'll mention it again in case you missed it. Make sure to the the Load Word Team translation for AC3. Its way more complete compared to the original Project Nemo translation project which didn't complete all the lore text entries and also made some general translation improvements.
I've played ace combat 7 and its psvr1 mode on ps4 Pro but I also played ace combat 1, 2 and 3 for nostalgia. Ace combat 4 and 5 on ps2 and Ace combat 6 on 360 were superior to the ps1 and I've played them to death but nothing comes close to the nostalgia I've felt when playing the older games.
Lol if you liked the game mechanic where you bought a plane back after you lost them, then you might as well forget it for the rest of the games, because Namco basically did also 😆

One of the ZOE airplanes is a Morgan, wich happens to be the final boss plane in AC Z

oh wow I never knew that was a remake of this, that's sick
I forgot to mention it has a Plus update that adds New 3DS and Amiibo support, which you use to unlock special versions of certain planes.
Tyler Island is gonna be important later.
Love AC2, I remember telling my friends about it when I was in 4th grade.
Get ready for AC3 and beyond its gonna melt your mind!
This game also introduced the first (and my personal favourite) recurring character, Lt. Kei Nagase call sign Edge

Been with AC since 2. So nice to see someone else go through the series fresh and fall in love with it just like I did when I was 8.

>AC2: "The story is about the same, so we don't need to go over it."
>AC3 sits on the horizon.
I’m so excited for when you reach 4 and 5, they’re some of my favorites in the series
I found Zero to be a fun time as well.

Haven't played the original first three Ace Combat games. This was very interesting for me. I look forward to this deep dive.

Uh, the ranks and medals are actually important for the majority of content you unlock in the game. They just dont annouce it like in "modern" games
They nerfed the bingo. I am distraught.

Missiles are a joke in Ace Combat 2. Now in Air Combat, those missiles are deadly.
Honestly, when I go and replay AC2, I only play on hard for both campaign playthroughs. I think it's the easiest Ace Combat game I've played so far
Get used to trench runs. It's gonna get better and funnier.
And then they made Ace Combat 3...
I kind of messed the pilot voices in other ace combat games.
