Just did the same and found out to have to shorten the cable pipe. Should have watched your video first 😊 would have saved me 20 minutes of wondering 🎉

Easiest fix is a short length of black, nylon cord. attach it through that hole in the catch, feed the other end out of the grill and tie a loop to pull by. The catch is spring loaded, so it only needs a slight tug to pull the catch back. The cord can be tucked behind the grill and being black, noone notices it! It has a way more positive action than the original plastic lever...and costs nothing!!

    Quick tip:
    Lubricate the cable before fitting.
    P.S.
Nice fix on the cable length.

The clip underneath the plastic is snapped where the cable gets tension. Any ideas what I can do?

Due to the design of the handle, it sits vertical, letting water and dirt into the cable!! It's important you use "dry" lubricant. Dry PTFE spray is excellent (and recoomended to lubricate hinges on cars) but dry chain oil for bicycles also works fine. Use once a year to reduce the friction, so the handle doesn't break. It is same design as 407, the other thing which breaks is the plastic bit on the hood release. Dry oil, because once solvents evaporate, there is no sticky residue which attracts more dirt!

No lubricant will help if water is freezed inside the cable...

@@rustoil water and oil don't mix. There's less chance of water getting in and when it does, the ice won't stick the cable as much, as the ice can not "grip" onto the cable as hard.

They dont mix, but water, when freezing, expands and locks the cable inside the cover and it becomes imposible for cable to move, then the handle, which is very fragile, especially in the cold, brakes...

the cable should be attached in another way, which is why the handle is damaged.
there are those who put a longer screw to fix the cable.
Why you C5 don’t have chrome tourer in back.
    It’s not a exclusive?

Hi. Please, could you explain how it could be attached in another way? My C5 is regular, not exclusive, it has no chrome trims arround windows...

@@rustoil It was in a forum that I saw this.
the cable is not pulled in line, is in diagonally, that's why the opening support breaks because it makes a lot of force.

Place were cable cover is held is in wrong position, facing diagnolly, thats right, but new cable moves freely, that angle is not fault for handles braking. Problem is the cable orientation, my old cable is now not moving at all because it has frozen, water got into the cable through the handle and frozen.

You don't have to replace that crap with new crap. Just extend the hook with a stainless steele L-bracket. As shown here: www.andre-citroen-club.de/forums/topic/114532-c5-im-winter/?do=findComment&comment=1335163
