    Laying sunbathing in a London garden listening to this. Carried away into a much better, more real world. Blissful. Thank you for the reading. Please see Wagner's Parsifal. And the paintings of Dante Gabriel Rossetti and the paintings of the Pre-Raphaelites. I firmly believe that the Arthurian legends are far more than myth but portals to a higher reality

      @@mythosandlogos thank you. I lived by Dozmary Lake (where king Arthur's sword was thrown) on bodmin Moor in Cornwall for a number of years. The whole area is alive with Arthurian legend. Recently a little girl claimed to have found excalibur in Dozmary Lake. It made headline news all over Cornwall at the time. And, who knows, maybe she did. I'm a playwright and poet and the Arthurian myths have been a source of inspiration for many years. I find them far more relevant to one's personal growth than anything modern society has to offer. As you said in your talk, a curtain is lifted. And it is. But most don't even see the curtain. Noel

      @@noeltroy2634 Wow, I can only imagine what it is like to live in a place like that. I absolutely agree with your words - the Arthurian themes are universal, and tap into a higher aspect of our human nature.

    Thank you for joining in the story of the Holy Grail! We tend to think that ancient/medieval people were stupid, but when we really look with intention, we see that their worldview is very valuable today.
    Note: Minor audio issues in the intro are no longer a problem once the main essay begins. Thank you for listening through them!
    See y’all next time for the highly-requested Orpheus and Eurydice!

      *There is a pathway which is the foundation for all the great faiths, which pervades each one of them, rises above them, and transcends them all and that is the pathway of Love. The pathway of love, compassion and service. Love and compassion are wonderful sentiments, well that's all they bloody well are, unless you use them as the motor for action, and the action is always in helping other people less fortunate than yourself.
      Martin Luther King summed it up sixty years ago when he accepted the Nobel Peace Prize and he said ‘we have learnt to fly in the air like birds, we have yet to learn to walk on the earth like brothers’ and the objective of every single spiritual pathway in history is precisely that, to stress the brotherhood of man, the unity of the human family, and for me I don't care if people are black, brown, white, yellow, some glorious mixture in between. Male or female, young or old, straight or gay, we're all part of the same family and we have a sacred duty to care for each other. All the spiritual pathways teach this, those from the East, and those from the West.
      It was summed up by a modern Sufi teacher, a wonderful man called Sheikh Ragip Frager, who wrote a beautiful book about thirty years ago called ‘Love is the Wine’, which I can recommend to anybody.
      *So it matters very little what spiritual path you follow, because you will follow one way you'll feel comfortable. Where the terminology is familiar and the concepts are familiar, but you will be asked to develop and show means to develop exactly the same qualities of life, humility and service and love and ultimately the objective is always the same, that is the true search for the Holy Grail*

    The search for the Holy Grail. Pre-dates Christianity by many years. The ancient celts had it, it was called the Cauldron of Plenty. The Hebrew people had it, for them it was the stone that fell from heaven. The Christian version talks about the cup that gives ever lasting life. People have gone to enormous lengths to track down one version or another of these. The most popular Christian version is the cup Jesus used at the last supper, that Joesph of Arimathea used to collect his blood after the crucifixion. First of all the cup Jesus used at the last supper was no different to the cup anyone else used at the last supper. And secondly you didn't collect blood from corpses in Jewish tradition, it was the last thing you did! No, no the Grail is a coded allegorical description of the pathway to enlightenment, it's a transformative process, it's an intellectual and spiritual change.

    The Saracens invaded France at the beginning of the 8th century and occupied the area for a century. There is still a commune called "Sarras" in Ardèche, France. I wonder if that could be a possible alternative location for the Arthurian tales 🤷‍♂️

      The source used here is Le Mort D’Arthur by Sir Thomas Malory. It’s available online for free! It is in English from 1485, so some of the language is a bit dated, but it’s not too far different from modern English. www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/1251
      I’m not sure of any newer adaptations.

      @@mythosandlogos thank you. One last question: Do you consider the vulgate cycle to be christian? What I mean by christian, I just mean inspired by and relating to the new testament. My understanding is many pagans consider the tales to have pagan origin. I don't dispute that, I am just interested in themes inspired by the gospels.

    • @mythosandlogos
      @mythosandlogos  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s a really great question. There are definitely Pre-Christian themes in characters (Merlin and the Lady of the Lake come to mind) but I would say the overall text of the vulgate is definitely Christian in theme. What historical pagan elements are present are reframed in an overall Christian context.

    Tell me what your ideal self would look like?

    • @mythosandlogos
      @mythosandlogos  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A great question, and one worth reflecting upon. Nature and music have always appealed to me, so the word “harmonious” definitely comes to mind as an ideal. Practically, I have learned that compassion helps me in that a lot.
      Though that is quite externally focused, as harmony requires an “other,” whether that’s harmony with another person or the world. Focusing on myself and the internal… I’m a bit less sure, but I’ve been trying to connect with my emotions better. I’ll direct that compassion inward and see what develops.
      Thanks for a great question, and I hope that you also take a step closer to the ideal self that the Grail shows 🏆
