Since the instrumental part is in playback I assume that they have had to pay for each song they've downloaded in an instrumental format. Then it is better to pick songs that many artists can cover. They also seem to choose songs based on their popularity. Most of their listeners are probably men over 40 that want to hear the music they grew up with, such as classic rock, 80's pop and power ballads.
