I agree it's always touted that the grand auditorium shape is the best all rounder size, but it has the depth and the same lower bout dimensions as a dreadnought. For a songwriting tool personally a guitar needs to be sofa friendly and well balanced tonally. The GC or 000/OM in Martin terminology is a better all rounder?
I guess I tend to lean towards the GPC for an all around Guitar but it really just depends on what I’m in the mood for. When I want something snappy an OM or concert is always the ticket!
Well, I did not miss the release and I’m happy that Taylor has finally introduced the Grand Concert body to their lower series. I think it is a smart move and they will sell a crap ton. Having said that, I bought an Academy 12 a year ago and these are just not different enough in specs to justify the purchase. While the 112 does have binding and a deluxe gig bag over the Academy 12, the Academy has the wonderful arm bevel! I purchased a deluxe gig bag for it and installed a K&K and now just love it. You mention that you don’t like sapele as a tonewood, but these are layered and don’t impact the tone much at all. I do agree that walnut is a beautiful, almost exotic looking wood at times, and it is far sexier than sapele. So, while I’d love to play either of these, I think I would save up for a 312 12 feet V Class or get a cheaper one with the GA size (like a 214) so I had a couple different flavors. Probably would go with all solid. The new 512 Urban Ironbark is also killer, but $3200 bucks too 😂
I bought one of the 112ce s when they first came out and it was tje worst Tayor I've ever played and Ive had at least 7 GS Mini's, a 114, 214, Big Baby and an Academy 12. It gelt very over built and the neck even felt plasticy
I feel the same about the tone on the 14s...the short scale on the 212 is a bit mellower. Love mine!
I recently got the 112CE and it's a fantastic instrument. I've owned a 714CE and I prefer the smaller GC body.
Love my 212! The GC body is great.
It’s been a while… good to see ya posting again!
