I have been in sales for over 25 years, 23 years of it in B2B. I have always felt that If you follow a process, involve the client in the process, Agree on next steps the close is a naturally occurring event. Problem is most sales people get caught in the never ending cycle before they inevitably lose the sale to a competitor because they did not understand the deal in the first place.
AMEN! AAAANNNNNDDDD I feel immediately the opposite of disarmed by a sales persons compliment when I walk into any type of sales environment. LIKE OH...you think I'm pretty...you like my shirt...I think I will buy from you. Like we are all so stupid and seeking validation from a stranger that we are disarmed. NOPE. So smarmy and Disingenuous.
