That is a very helpful list of things to do! I will definitely follow the advice given, Thanks! I haven't recorded my EP yet, but I know this year I will be making lots of music!
Working to release my very first solo-album this year (over halfway done already), and I'll make sure to incorporate as much of this as I can! Thanks for the advice :)
Its like you're speaking to me! My band is in the middle of releasing our debut EP, set for launch next month! Thank you for your timeless wisdom Graham!
Hey Graham Cochrane, Just giving you heads up here. Are you aware that Billie Eilish won some Grammy awards along with her brother, Finneas? Even Finneas received an award for Producer Of The Year! He even mentioned live that the album was recorded at HOME! I am warning you that the music industry WILL take note of this: anything and everything is possible if YOU will put your mind to it. And so, we are encouraged by his words that we CAN do this stuff. There should be NO excuses! Also on the same event, on a tragic side of things, Kobe Bryant and his daughter was killed in a helicopter accident. Just letting you know. Home recordists and revolutionists, rejoice! ;)
There is this track on soundcloud called blast'em by a user called d/rose. It's one of the best mixed mastered track I have heard. May you do a breakdown of what he is doing please?
There is one major problem that I’ve been having. So far I’ve released 2 albums, and am currently mastering the songs for a 3rd album now. Looking me up on google or TH-cam is basically impossible, because I did not choose a name that is optimized for search results. For example, something like “6ix9ine” only yields results pertaining to him, looking up “Dust Bunnys” will only yield results for “Dust Bunnies” because it is a common typo. (I chose it as a grammar joke because I’m a solo artist) I’m wondering if there are any techniques for optimizing your google (or other engine) search results. At this point I’m considering changing my stage name entirely for my newest release :/
Is Fiverr a reliable source for video / graphics people. I thought it was more about session musicians (I could be wrong). Or would you in addition to Fiverr, recommend other freelance websites? When should you start to create a personal vlog of yourself, would you show yourself only in the recording studio as your laying down tracks or beforehand, say, during private moments when you are writing and coming up with ideas early on in the process?
Speaking of SIA, that’s my whole approach to this EP project. My priority is to just get a cohesive and professionally mixed and mastered product streamable.Being that my genre is instrumental chill hip-hop/lo-fi, image is fairly irrelevant. The artist I stream regularly? I have no idea what they look like, couldn’t name and EP or track title if you paid me and could couldn’t care less about any of these things. That said there are branding issues and reach that are important. My face and image is irrelevant.
E P stands for "extended play", a term from the good old days of vinyl records. It has come to mean a collection of songs somewhere between a single (1 song or maybe 2 - like the A side and B side of an old-style 45 rpm [= revolutions per minute] 7 inch single record) and an album or LP (= Long Play) (at least 40 minutes of music, usually 8 or more tracks). Extended Play originally was a format where a 7 inch record had about 4 songs on it and usually needed to be played at 33 1/3 rpm So now it's shorthand for a collection of about 4-6 songs released together.
Think that some things from the list can be useless for debut EP and young artists and you just waste your time and money. - Song lyrics video. For what? If you're not a popular artist who cares about to sing along with this video? Just write down lyrics on distribution to be dowloaded on streaming. - Merch. Same. You just spent time and money for t-shirts, that no one want to buy. Music is first, if your music goes, you play some good show, have a fans, than you can think about that. - Website. in 2020 you have platforms like Bandlink, it's landing page, you can have there links on all your music + photos, show dates and it's easy and cheap to use. Don't waste your time and money on constructing websites until you're not Bruno Mars. I think you should concentrate on working with partners (label, streaming platforms, sponsors, listeners) and making interesting content for EP, that will be released after EP released. Left all the no meaning stuff, because you lose some really important things in these whole lotta work!

With the music already on the platforms? shouldn't it be before uploading it to the platforms? the pre launch?
Is it a good idea to drop a ep first then videos or videos first then ep?
It's a bit late. I'd say make videos first, but mention your ep at the end of them. Make sure the people watching know about your ep coming up

Great
Make a video of how to promote a launch
Many of the artists on Fiverr are not as skilled as the examples they give - do you recommend any particular creatives?
