That's so cool to hear the story about Jordy. It's so true about horses having a preference in what they do and when a rider and horse don't mesh you really can't force that. Love that he found his place and it worked out. ❤
That was a great episode! I appreciate your transparency and humbleness (regarding Jordy). I loved the " thought provoking questions" and your answers.
Love hearing about how much alike you are to your Grandmother Michael. I apparently share similar qualities to my grandfather who passed when my mom was young.
I have been loving the podcast-y vibe!!! I always play these on the TV while doing housework lol. I would absolutely listen to a podcast!!! (But also keep the video version on TH-cam too if possible🤣)
Regarding the picky eating, it's pretty common among folks with autism and/or ADHD. I won't sit back here and diagnose you with either based on snapshots of your life through a screen though 😉 But I have noticed some traits of ADHD shine through in Katie. ADHD doesn't mean bouncing off the walls, particularly in women. The diagnosis of women is usually harder and later noticed, due to the fact that it presents differently in girls/ women. A lot of us might have gone to school with a kid that was bouncing off the walls, really attention grabbing, etc. Usually those kids were boys. Katie strikes me as on the ADHD range, with the hyperfocus, detailed memory of horses/ horse breeding but then question marks when it comes to remembering other stuff. Like horses are her hyperfocus and she will intake and remember as much as she can without even really thinking about it. Please don't take this as a diagnosis though, obvs! The taste texture thing is common for adhd/autism. I don't get it tooooo bad, but some things I will want to throw across the room from how disgusting they are, while alot of other people are fiending for it. Raw oysters make me gag and feel SICK. The spit thing I get as well, I can only share a straw if I've kissed someone, or I came from them 😅 and if the straw looks clean. Seeing people spit is 🥴 hearing some hawk up a loogie 🤢 if I see that I get so ill. There is more but I'm trying to not make myself nauseous mid-morning 😂 Tbh I'm with Nate on Mike Wazowski 👁
A.D.D. here. Used to be ADHD, out grew the hyper part. I have texture issues and some tastes. And the other things. But I am NOT as adverse to food as Katie. Interesting take. ADD has been a struggle in early years but an asset as I got older.
@@Dachdogoriginalthey actually don’t technically use ADD anymore for diagnosis’s anymore. They just lump everything into ADHD. The H part with the hyperactivity doesn’t necessarily mean physically hyper, it’s just your brain is hyperactive and overstimulated.
Saw your short video on a stallion for ginger. I have to say moon pie rocks. While it's a shame he's passed I'd get as much of him😊 as possible. He's got that all around capability. They say great minds think alike and I see why you like him!😊 Lol.hahaha miss Katie we know when you generally say no more horses there may possibly be other additions!❤😂😂
Hi Katy. This is the first time I've actually written a comment on a TH-cam series, so...I've watched most all your videos, and I think you are such a natural on camera. Your presentation style is so charming (i.e. you don't come off as fake or condescending), and I've learned a lot more about horses than I ever thought I would, lol. Like most young girls, I was horse crazy (I'm 64), and you remind me of those days, with a side of your horse & breeding expertise, which makes your videos so enjoyable to watch. Keep doing it! As for the picky eating? Well, you're not alone there either. I have more or less the same kind of food pickiness as you. Food has to 1) smell right, 2) have the right texture, and 3) it has to taste right, otherwise I'm not interested. I also share your aversion to those "YOU HAVE TO TRY THIS!!!" types. It's rude and annoying. I was a Coca Cola kind of girl until I was in my mid-twenties and started working in offices where coffee was the only option if you wanted a drink, lol. It's one of those things that has to grow on you. To this day I like my cream and sugar with a little coffee in it, which irks most coffee lovers! I can't wait to watch the new babies being born and your progress with your mini farm, so keep those videos coming, please!
Looking forward to the shenanigans at the Congress!! Family have always said I'm like the copy to my mom's one older brother, he passed in a car accident when I was four and this should amuse you - Mom and I were so restless that night, I was four years old, and remember being absolutely insane. My dad got so frustrated with us, and then we got the phonecall at 4am and it freaked him out lol.
My son is called Michael (Mike for short) and I’d love it if there was a cow named Mike at Running Springs! I’m missing Mike at the moment as he’s just started university and I’ve now got an empty nest. Your content makes me smile though and has taught me a lot, thank you xx ❤
Back in the day all pop (sofa) bottle caps had a plastic insert in the them and Mountain Dew had a promotion you could send in so many and get a free shirt…my parents wouldn’t let me drink enough to get one, so good on your dad 😊 Nate not being an ‘80’s baby…definitely made me feel old as I was an 80’s child
Soo sorry about bubbles tooo. Lost my puppers a year ago and that day i was so sad about her loss. Couldnt figure out why, came home from work and saw you video of Bubble and was so sad! Im so sorry 😞 losing a fur baby is always hard. 😢
There IS an “eating disorder” associated with ASD, where people with it avoid certain foods based on texture. It has nothing to do with body image, or self esteem. As far as picky eater goes- my son has ASD, and is extremely picky, as well. But Katie mentioned avoiding foods out of a fear of vomiting- does she have Emetophobia? Because THAT also comes with extreme picky eating.
Oh, I feel you on the Dew! When I was in my early 20s, I drank one EVERY morning! I didn't really get into coffee until my mid-20s...and that was International Coffees which is basically coffee mixed with hot cocoa. 😂
I laughed so hard when you said that about your dad sending in the caps of my dew and hot all the dew merch😁 what a great video of you three !!! Always full of laughs and good info 🫶🏼🤍
Possible topic to touch on- What are EPDs and phenotypes, how are they 'calculated' or given/decided and what would someone looking to buy for seed herd cows, look for as far as EPDs and phenotypes and for what reasons? Good lord, I know there can't really be a super short and simple answer to that but I'm so curious. I've even done some searching on the good ol' Goog but need it explained in regular un cow people language lol. Oh man, what I would give to sit down with a cup of dew with Katie and the crew!
I’m so glad you talked about Jordy. There’s some girl on TikTok lying about him saying that the original girl backed out of the agreement and so she bought him and is using him for barrels 🤣
In light of the cattle sale Katie recently made a Tiktok discussing her goals with *her* cattle. She also discussed the history of the Simmental colours, why she has blue roan and red cattle, and how she's working on breeding and producing higher EPD cattle with those colours, bloodlines, and traits. I would love to see a breakdown similar to this with the non-recip horses, along the lines of what she did here with Kennedy. I know there are several wonderful mares to discuss this with, but I think it would be great for both horse-y and non-horsey folks alike, to understand a bit of breed/bloodline history, then get into her goals, what she'd like to do (in terms of riding style, their abilities, showing goals, colours, traits, size, conformation...), and studs she'd cross with. Definitely just more about the thought process behind current and future crosses, and what she aims to do. Maybe choose 1-2 mares per week, to help break it down!
One good idea to get over social awkwardness is to plan to talk about what the other person wants to talk about. It removes the anxiety about what to say, and gives you a way to shift your focus with a couple of questions of them, breaks the ice and people like the curiosity.
29:34 Katie, I’m a VERY picky eater!! But it had to do with being born with a bad colon (Hirschsprung’s disease). I could not eat certain foods because they would give me diarrhea. I had a colostomy bag at 2 days old.

I live less than 5 miles from the Ohio State Fairgrounds (Congress) If my house weren't such a mess, I'd offer it up for a week rental for ya'. Yes, be careful in the neighborhood immediately around the Fairgounds. Heading west toward campus is probably a little safer than east. Check out Auddino's for donuts on Clara St, walking distance of Fairground entrance on 17th. Yummy! Have fun!!

It could be bar codes, bottle tops ( like beer bottles) box tops, stamps from the certain stores, things like that. There were no instant scanning with your phone, we had to physically mail things in using the postal service.
Whatever you have with your picky eating is exactly what I have. We have the exact same likes and dislikes in every food related video and now the coffee just confirms it. That is exactly me. do they do the dew or cheers with the beer?
The way Nate was offended about you asking if he was an 80’s baby made all of us 80’s babies feel real old 😂 lol
I would love a podcast! Love having Nate more involved now as well the dynamic between the three of you!

I second this!
