I always considered Prince Philip to be the main protagonist of this movie since he was the one that fought the battle and Aurora was asleep for half of the movie.

Tess Crelli I’ve done that too. Not only is the animation great but you also notice little inconsistencies with the ropes and number of goons throughout. But it also lets you see the details hidden in the shadows too, I wish they hadn’t put those shots in Shadow so we see the whole thing throughout.
I'm guessing that this treatment was repurposed for Prince Phillip from what would have been for Prince Florian in Snow White, because the reason why Florian easily came off as one-dimensional was because the animators at the time faced difficulty on animating realistic male humans.
You gotta give props to Philip, unlike most princes he scored a date with his lady love and put up quit the fight. He was heavily outnumbered so it's no wonder he got overwhelmed and captured.

This fight is actually pretty good. Philip Who is easily stronger than those attacking him is surprised, roped (still manages to fight back), bombarded with enemies & ropes so he can't break free, & eventually subdued after both they & he put up a good fight. The only confusion I have is why is a prince unarmed? Maybe he didn't want to be intimidating, but what about thieves, bandits, & wild animals? Philip is a bit stupid & lucky here.
