His first year salary was slightly more than $40,000 in 1979. Iowa fans will always be grateful coach, you breathed pride and dignity back into a once dead program. RIP.

As an Ohio State fan who grew up on a farm, he did a great job recognizing the American farmer during the ag crisis of the 80s. Thank you and RIP.

We are very blessed for having Hayden as the Iowa coach! I met him at the Rose Bowl years ago-very polite and joking around about if the team could win or lose the game; not only did Hayden bring back football in Iowa, his influence was felt across the country with his winning ways! Living in California, I was now proud to be a WINNING Hawkeye, and not upset anymore when we would get butchered back in the 70's when I was in college at Iowa. Then, Iowa football was a big joke that was teased every week by everybody; thank you Hayden Fry for giving us back our pride, our character, and our love of the game again!

Thank you Hayden. Thanks you for restoring our pride and belief in ourselves. Thank you for the Tiger Hawk, the Swarm, the Rose Bowls, a winning attitude, the memories, the moments, for running a clean program. Thank you for proving that we could be winners and that there was no excuse for us to continue losing. College football thanks you for great coaches you provided. Some say you left the cupboard bare but you ol' fox, you still left one jar of jam in there
    Kirk Ferentz!

God blessed Iowa when Hayden Fry came to us. I hope he was watching over us as we beat USC in the 2019 Holiday Bowl, 49-24. I actually think he was whispering in Kirk's ear tonight.

I miss the excitement of Hayden's 'exotics'....fake field goals, etc. Good times. Good teams, lots of fun following the Hawks.
