You need the tool to put the filter on right? Didn't see you or hear you if you need one or used one or not

I have a question: After you are done with the oil change don't you have to reset something on the dashboard screen. Like so the car knows the oil was changed otherwise it will give you a light after a while ?

Reina, I always just leave my maintenance required light on :-) I googled the steps to get it out and this is what I found:
Turn ignition key to 'ON' and press the odometer button until the display reads ODO... not Trip A or B.Turn ignition key to OFF.Hold in the same button you used in step 1.While holding the button in, turn ignition key to 'ON'.ODOMETER will change to5 dashes - - - - -Then 4 dashes - - - -Then 3 dashes - - -Then 2 dashes - -Then 1 dash -THEN all zeros 0 0 0 0 0Then back to the correct mileageThe Maintenance Required light should blink and go out.

Do you have to jack up the car to get under it? If so where do you jack it up?

No, you do not have to. I can fit under my car with those oil pans no problem.

+reina ramos Sure - I had this happen once after taking it somewhere. Put a pipe or something on your wrench to give yourself a longer lever to get more torque. I actually used a pole from a beach umbrella, and it worked!
A normal wrench might have a 10 inch or 12 inch handle. If you can put a pipe or pole on the end of it you can get to 24 inches or 36 inches. This will give you double or triple the torque!

  • @robarjay

The oil filter is not counter clock-wise ?

    • @MoneyAhoy
      @MoneyAhoy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

To remove it is counter clockwise.

@@MoneyAhoy Hey, sorry I miss understood, I was thinking you were saying it is different than the normal way you would remove something that was screwed in.

you used an american standard socket on a japanese vehicle.. it should be metric right? not sure the mm size. i guess i will have to find out when I do mine. you should also state the size when you're mentioning tools required. more importantly i cannot see the filter at all through this footage. you didn't explain the process of removing it, and if i let that drain out; with plug out, cap off or what? The half quart flush thing sounds like a good idea but i have no idea when in the process to do it... before changing filters I'm guessing? but then again after installing the filter you said "I'm going to add that half quart."
I've done a few oil changes... just not on one of these before so i was wondering. ..you just made it a lot harder.
overall this video is unhelpful. 👎 :/

      Travis,
Sorry you didn't like the video. I have gotten better at making them over the years and this is an early one :-)
I'll try to answer your questions here:
      - I think it is a 3/16" wrench that I've always used that works well.
      - The filter is a FRAM 3614 filter.
      - To remove the oil filter, you grasp the end and unscrew it counter-clockwise. Careful, it can be pretty hot in the area where you will be putting your hands!
      - The oil filter will be full of oil, and it can make a mess. It is best to have your oil drip pan under it on the ground (below the vehicle).
      - You can remove the oil filter during any point of the oil changing process. It is independent of the oil pan draining step.
      - You can also screw on the new oil filter at any point after removing the old one. Either before or after screwing the oil pan bolt back in...
      - You can flush with the 1/2 quart of oil at any point before screwing the oil pan bolt back in.
      Good luck!
