My Aunt swears by laying fake snakes all over her garden to keep the squirrels away. Also , Vaseline in the bird feeder pole to keep squirrels from eating bird seed. Very funny to watch them try to shimmy up and fail. Love your channel!
When I was a teen my Mom put the three poinsettias outside in the snow to die, they were pretty sorry looking, barely any leaves. I brought them back in and they were covered in white flies. I got a soapy bowl of water and dampened paper towels and washed the leaves, many times, and eventually I got rid of the white flies. When my parents divorced my Dad took the poinsettias which were now three and a half feet tall and two plus feet wide and kept them. They bloomed every year.
I'll tell you right now, to kill any insect, bring up a batch of Preying Mantis. Any one you find, introduce it to your garden. I have lots of Dutch White Clover I purposely threw into my lawn because I really don't like grass. I noticed that the Mantis tend to really love this, and when I have to cut the lawn, I always find a handful of Mantis, and they get a new home dispersed throughout the garden. When doing this, keep in mind that Mantis are also cannibalistic, so don't put them near each other. Between my army of Mantis and the Dragonflies and occasional Spiders that frequent my garden, the only issues I have are with slugs, but coffee grounds take care of those (and it's great for my berries as well)!
@@mammothenterprises2921 Trust me, the blossoms still get pollinated. The mantis will keep the plant from getting eaten and the crops from getting devoured.
@mammothenterprises2921 they will eat anything, so you don't want a lot of them... but they'll do the job on pests also. It's a double-edged sword when dealing with them.
I use a frame covered in screen wire to grow my cabbages and such. If the moth can not get in the worms do not show up. Plus my garden has bunches of Anole lizards everywhere. They seem to also help with the bugs that do damage.
I have many squirrels and never had an issue. I even feed them nuts and many come but they never touch my vegetables. When mango season comes they do feast on them but we get so many for us that what they eat doesn't affect us. Also, seen others put realistic rubber snakes on fig trees and they say keeps them away from their fruit. Thanks for sharing..
We have a squirrel heaven over here😂, no fences, neighbor feeds birds, enough said.. I went to a restaurant supply store and bought a big container.. Pepper Harrow mentioned they use it for there Tulips , they sprinkle over newly planted and after heavy rain. I sprinkle over newly planted containers to keep away Chipmunks and in beds for squirrels.
What I’m doing this year against the leaf food bugs is using Tulle. As soon as I see any tomato clusters, I’ll cut some tulles and wrap it around each tomato or full clusters (depending on the variety). I’ll give enough room for the tomatoes to grow. Anyway, the leaf footed bugs won’t be able to suck any juices out of the tomatoes. At least that’s my theory. I did learn this a long time ago from Brian, we’ll see if it works. I’m in south Alabama, we grow Brassicas fine down here. Just need to start your seeds indoors around August
I agree - the time for brassicas in the south is fall-winter-spring and I grow them under bug mesh. Check occasionally for snails and aphids that may come up from the soil but no cabbage worms at all! Sprouting broccolis like raab and aspabroc are faster so you can succession plant
Squirrels also don’t like lavender. (Probably butchered the spelling lol)Nosturtium flowers will also repel most of those 3% pest bugs. A lot of pesticides are made from them in the first place so by using the plant itself instead you’re going to get a more natural safer result.
Brassica's sweet allysum is one, so you are growing one! (yes they are edible taste a lot like broccoli) However if you are in the south, try planting 6 week old starts in Middle of September and over winter, yeah you'll have to cover with frost blanket or a garden tunnel etc. but what you are looking to do is have it mostly grown so when spring comes and they are big enough that they make the food instead of bolting. or if you like the kale it doesn't need covering and makes you greens for winter. Just found this channel so forgive me if you've tried that already please.
As I watch your show part two, I forget what bug you said for the assassin bug PYRETHRUM TANACETUM or painted daisies same kind of flower they have that same stuff in them that you’re talking about and you could plant these at the border outside of your garden or you can extract the juice from the plant
I use a homemade soapy spray to get rid of most bugs off my plants. I have a lot of whitefly but it's been raining lots here so I have to wait for dry weather.

Leaf foot bugs are my nemesis. They destroy everything. I planted some sunflowers that they seemed to love. I'm gonna try them as a trap crop and see if I can control the numbers with a cordless vacuum.

No more squirrel issues lol
Any of the organic or natural chemicals are made mostly out of flowers like Yarrow marigold pyrethrum is in that organic chemical that you’re talking about that’s what they get it from that flower
I love the idea of 100% organic but for some it takes years to get everything right. Azera is an organic pesticide that works great. Use a fogger and follow the instructions. Only spray at dusk or right after as to not kill pollinators

We have squirrels that I feed and a garden, but we finally had to fence our garden in so they would stop planting nuts and rocks in it. But I love wildlife so getting rid of them was not an option for me. We also have wild rabbits and mallard ducks that feed off our bird seed that falls to the ground. Our back yard use to be open to 20 or more acres but they cut all the trees down and built houses too. So now the squirrels MUST have shelter in trees and there are only a few pecan and oak trees left so we still feed them. But they are great entertainment sometimes!!!😊

I don’t mind birds in the garden. They never mess with my plants. I have two bird baths and hummingbird feeders. I do see them eat bugs but that’s about it. I have a hard time getting brassicas to grow too. I feel like in our area (9a) there’s not enough sunlight when the weather is cool enough. My broccolini did fantastic this year and I have two tiny heads of cabbage. That’s the best I’ve ever done though and I started them in September.
I’ve heard that birds and also rats will eat tomatoes mostly for the water content. So if you leave water out for them they may leave your tomatoes and berries alone. Not blueberries though, they go nuts for those.
Because of one of ur previous videos I now have a ton of basil cuttings in water growing some roots to place everywhere!!! I have a kiddie pool with green beens and eggplant-basil, marigolds and dill!! Guess I need thyme as well.
I have a trellis system, so I used deer fence netting to keep the squirrels out last year. It's a bit of a nuisance but it works. This year, instead of putting it from ground to trellis, I'm adding some small 1x1 boards on the outside of my beds about 3 ft up to attach it. I'm hoping I can still reach over it and it will still keep them out.
Squash vine borer tip: a squash called Trombochino is resistant....but be warned....this thing will get HUGE. PROMISE TO THE READER: if you grow this squash, you'll never grow zucchini or yellow squash again.
Trying it for the first time this year after SVB devastating my zucchini and postal squashes last year. Was told you can harvest immature to use like a summer squash or let it mature to store like a winter squash. Also companion planted like crazy around all squash, cucumbers, loofah. Covering my zucchini and hand pollinating. (I think trombocino will produce later than zucchini.)
For cabbage worms, my best defense is spraying with BT. It's organic and not a chemical (it's a bacteria that only affects certain pests) very targeted and very effective. Planting alyssum wouldn't work for me since by the time they flower the brassicas are about to all come out to make room for the summer veggies.
I use Repell All to protect my tulips for the squirrels and it worked, but I have to be consistent every time it rain, I re applied. I don’t know if it’s safe for vegetables crops though.
I’m in the Spring area and my kale was beautiful. Something eat almost all my grown plants. Found some very tiny bugs that grow to be a green worm. Don’t know the name of it, but I would like to know if you have any suggestions. The plants seem to be bouncing back and don’t want the same for the new varieties I just planted. Have you ever tried Sluggo or Sluggo plus? Sluggo is an organic granular bait that kills slugs/snails. Sluggo plus kills slugs, snails, cutworms, sowbugs, earwigs & pill bugs. Very easy to use.
My cannabis plants got mites last year 😢... I tried spaying the plants with soapy water and did get rid of most of them but they kept coming back... they didnt kill the plants but stressed them out enough that the whole crop went male 😭
The best fertilizer and pest control of the garden is the shadow of the gardener.

Sunflowers are a good trap crop for Leaf-footed bugs. Of course you have to sacrifice the sunflowers when they are infested by bagging and disposing.
You know what else is good for squirrels? Cats. They scent up the yard so much the squirrels didn't come back this year.

Hornworms will attack the nightshade family... plant basil over by your peppers to protect them from the hawk moth. 👍👍👍

I've tried fall & winter, but my winter isn't an actual winter... just stays warm for too long, and I only grow pests. 🤣🤣

Hello neighbor, sounds like it could have been cabbage worms, but without seeing them, I'm not sure. But, it was definitely a pest, so, neem oil would be an option. 💯

Squash BUGS, we noticed them to ____ late and could not get them killed. No amount of soapy water SOOOO frustrating.
The best bet is to be in the garden daily, looking and observing all the plants.. that way, when you see them, you can address them immediately 💯💯

I couldn't find anything either ,I am 8b everyday for the whole garden season it got so frustrating, I jmi would just use a spray bottle of water and wash it off daily. it was mostly on the underside of the leaves

I found out on the internet what it was from a spittle bug Google says,to research it You have to put in foamy spit on strawberry plants ..lol

Have you ever tried Sluggo or Sluggo plus? Sluggo is an organic granular bait that kills slugs/snails. Sluggo plus kills slugs, snails, cutworms, sowbugs, earwigs & pill bugs. Very easy to use.

My cannabis plants got mites last year 😢... I tried spaying the plants with soapy water and did get rid of most of them but they kept coming back... they didnt kill the plants but stressed them out enough that the whole crop went male 😭
