- LMDE 6 is the long-awaited next release of Linux Mint, based on Debian 12 Bookworm. Technically, LMDE 6 is on par with Linux Mint 21.2. What LMDE 6 has in store, whether it's worth switching to LMDE 6 and when you should upgrade from LMDE 5, all this is available now.

Great video. Thank you. I'm using LMDE 6, I moved over from regular Mint because I'm done with Ubuntu and their nonsense.
It's just a matter of time until LMDE becomes the only version because Ubuntu will be snaps only.
However the Mint team will probably have to offer 2 versions: 1 based on Debian stable and 1 based on Debian testing who want an OS that updates more frequently
Imo Mint should go full Debian and ditch Ubuntu.
Is LMDE an LTS?
@@user-xv9mq Ubuntu hasn't done jack shit for its users in last 10 years!
@@user-xv9mq bs. Then why are you interested in what Mint is using? It's not Ubuntu. It's Mint. Only good thing Ubuntu made ages ago was implementing easier installer and bundling closed source software in it. Stuff that ie. openSUSE does better these days
@@user-xv9mq Ubuntu is developing a number of problems and loosing users because of that. Debian is easier to install and use these days, and the Mint team makes all the changes needed to make it just as usable as their Ubuntu version. Dropping Ubuntu and making only LMDE is not likely to cause users any problem. Dropping the Ubuntu based Mint would also give them more time to make further improvements to LMDE. I've used both and had no problems.
@@HarryHaller-yn7vs For any particular reason or just because it's what they're used to?
I have been using LMDE6 beta since it became available on my Dell Lattitude laptop. I never once have encountered problems, WiFi connects everywhere I go without issue (not true with MX23 or Debian12 in my case) and is as east to use and set up as Linux Mint 'Victoria'. LMDE6 is a keeper.
I'm a long Mint user. Started looking at Debian 11 and LMDE5 to get away from Ubuntu. Liked both but LMDE was better. But D11 didn't support my hardware very well. So I started testing LMDE6 beta. Loved it, and the performance was back again. I'm in the process of setting everything back up. Happy to Unbuntu my Mint.
I went LMDE for the same reason, pal.
I liked your video because it showed some of the more important configurations that people will want. I've been using mostly Ubuntu, probly 90% over the past 18 years, but with this new Snap trash I have decided to abandon Ubuntu. I Love LMDE. It's my new distro. Since Snap started a few years ago I wasn't to impressed with Mint because it was Ubuntu based. Now that I see LMDE, I have gained a new affinity for Mint. I'm so glad Mint is doing LMDE. I hope they eventually ditch Ubuntu and go full on Debian based eventually.
Thanks!
What if time shift is smarter with ability use it to do an full backup to external media before upgrade to next linux mint upgrade versions
cool!
Totally away from power Linux setups .... LMDE is still available in a 32 bit version so I loaded vs 5 onto an elderly (2007) laptop with an SSD ... remarkable performance and LMDE 6 is even better.... shakes head ...crazy
I like to use Linux, but the only problem is software support. Linux doesn't has as much software support as windows has. Couple of my softwares are not available in Linux. 😢
There is always an Open Source alternative (in most cases).
@@vivekkdagar yes you're right, But quality matters here.
Have you tried anything that uses WINE? If you have Steam, this will probably make it easier to install and run Windows applications than using anything else, but I haven't tried Bottles.
