Hi Simsimsam!
I have lived in the the UK since 2004 but I grew up in Christchurch.Your video popped up fairly randomly on my TH-cam homepage (subbed and I will check out the rest of your NZ travels next.) I used to work at the Millennium Hotel, which I believe is now the Distinction, which you pointed out as your new workplace. That building was originally government offices (the Housing Corporation Building) and my mother actually worked there when she was with the Department Of Social Welfare (specifically the Children's, Young Persons and their Families department,) back in the 1980s. The elevators did not go to the very top floor and there was a very cool penthouse apartment that had originally been the caretaker's flat with a fantastic view. A lot of my favourite hangouts in the city centre have gone since the 2011 earthquake but a few still remain.I have an uncle who apprenticed as a gardner in the Botanical Gardens. The Riverside Market is new to me but I am very interested in seeing it as everyone who visits Christchurch keeps raving about it. (I hope to go back next year.) You come across as a good guy, best wishes as you continue your travels!

Thank you for that nice comment :) that's awesome and informative, I knew it was the Millennium before, but didn't know that it used to be an office building.
Riverside is a nice place to grab a snack/meal. There is also another place called "little high". I haven't been there yet.
And yes I've seen online how much Chch has changed. There is a neat feature on google maps streetview, where you can change the dates in certain areas ( noticeable differences around the Hotel and on Manchester Street ) definitely check that out if you haven't yet.
