I grew up in New Orleans, this man, Professor Longhair is the true Godfather of our modern day R & B, Soul, Funk & Rock & Roll. He never had the big hits that Fats Domino had, but, everybody know what's up, ain't no one out playing Da Professor!
May the Gods bless The Fess..........I was lucky enough to see him numerous tiimes over many years back in the day. There has never been anyone like him and he is the root of all New Orlean music.............long before that "Big Easy" bs
Awesome! Looks like the same band lineup as the Chicago show in 1974.....with the Meters backing up the Prof. ....and his conga player. ....Georgie, Art, Leo and Ziggy.
THE FESS TAUGHT THEM ALL HOW TO PLAY OR THEY WATCHED AND PICKED HIS STYLE .THANK GOD I GOT TO SEE THIS MAN PERFORM LIVE IN NEW ORLEANS MANY TIMES.DENNY R MAN
I want me some red beans n' rice, a muffeletta from Central Grocery, a red soda and an erster Po Boy. Then I wanna watch this again 'fore I ride the streetcar out to Napoleon Avenue.
Dr. John's "Gumbo" version is great, but Professor Longhair, who feels like he's going 20x faster, kills it. Thanks for putting this up. Seriously great music.
Hey guys, I'm fairly new to Blues and would really appreciate it if some of you awesome people could introduce me to more of these amazing New Orleans Blues artists. Cheers :)
Check out Soul Jazz Records. They do compilations from places, times and genres. For example New Orleans Funk: The Original Sound of Funk 1960 - 1975. Great label and would be exactly what you're looking for.
Looks to be the Meters backing him. That's George Porter on Bass, Zig Modeliste I think on drums, and Leo Nocentelli on guitar, Aaron neville on the keys
I've been depressed for a while and this really cheered me up. I'm reading "Rock Lives" by Timothy White and checking out some musicians I hadn't been familiar with before.
Wasn't this the concert that began his comeback? I recall the story where a festival promoter discovered Fess working in a record store, then telling him, "I'm gonna put you on my festival," and all he cared about was getting paid. :)
Hey all, I'm gonna show you all how to play this one note for note. I've spent a lifetime learning this style of music and I just released a vid showing my proficiency at this song. I hope you all will join me on my journey. Thank you all and love live the fess.
This is what you call beautiful controlled chaos, the music is all over the place n still makes sense😀😀😀😀

This music is criminally underrated and unknown, everyone of us who has heard it knows how privileged they are
True it's fantastic!!
Can't get enough of it
The Professor was such a bright light on this earth! No one can play piano like that.
May the Gods bless The Fess..........I was lucky enough to see him numerous tiimes over many years back in the day. There has never been anyone like him and he is the root of all New Orlean music.............long before that "Big Easy" bs
Came here after watching Mardi Gras for All Y'All 2/14/21. WOW! Blown away that I'd never heard of this musician.
Awesome! Looks like the same band lineup as the Chicago show in 1974.....with the Meters backing up the Prof. ....and his conga player. ....Georgie, Art, Leo and Ziggy.
People have got to make their way to good music some how. Dr. John brought me here.
This is my first time listening to professor longhair and I like his music already
Great video of a great legend. I love the end when he throws his hands in the air and snatches that towel. He knew he just rocked that place out!

Teaching the birds how to sing❗️
