As a NW Alabama native, just like Jason (who I used to see play at a Mexican restaurant called LaFonda's way back when) I'm just happy to hear someone pronounce his last name correctly. Is-bull :)
When I first stumbled across his music I was at the lowest point of my life up to that time. So many of his songs felt like they were talking straight to me. Love, loss, work. With Weathervanes that has still been the same. Among the greatest lyricist and songwriters as far as I am concerned
This guy has ‘reach’ that might not be fully appreciated on your side of the pond. His writing is so universal, he has created a significant following in the UK & Europe.
I would trade you Springsteen, and Young, plus any other songwriter of your choosing, just to keep Jason Isbell. I'm from the same place his people are from; we may even be kin. I like to think so. Sometimes a man IS appreciated in his own country, be he prophet or otherwise.
I don't think he would appreciate that trade. Music is like scholarship - it builds on itself and the greatest musicians create chords that echo across generations. Without Young and Springsteen, there is no Isbell.@@MelissaThompson432
As a huge fan of the Drive-By-Truckers, I have been listening to Jason Isbell for at least twenty years. One of THE BEST song-writers and guitar players of all time. I have seen the 400 Unit around 7 times and these guys are absolutely incredible live. His awards are very well deserved.

If Faulkner was a modern day songwriter, he'd be JASON ISBELL! His southern gothic, sociological siren songs stop this old southerner in her tracks!! He's just BRILLIANT!! ❤❤

That's part of the point of the song. Back in the day, lye soap would ruin cast iron, but modern dish soap is fine. It's an old adage that people still hold to even when it isn't accurate for the times.
I just saw Jason in Chicago four days ago. I was fairly close to the stage, close enough to see something was different about him. Looks like he got new teeth. I really liked his natural teeth. They were not the prettiest, but to me they were part of his persona of being open and honest about who he is. BUT I just read that he was having a lot of issues with them and he really didn't have much choice if he wanted to continue singing. Maybe I'll get used to them...someday.

Isbell's "Weathervanes" album is the best new album I've heard in years.

La Fonda’s! Shoals kid here and I haven’t thought about that joint in a long time. Those Isbell shows were legendary free shows.
I am a huge fan of Jason and I think he should have been asked to perform this Grammy winning song at the awards show.
Wow....someone who actually lives up to the hype. That song brought tears to my eyes because of the truths within it.
As a longtime fan I am biased, but I don't think Jason can never be hyped enough :-) I regularly well up listening to him and I'm 65.
