6:46 for anyone wondering: yes, that tank is way too small for an Angelfish. They require 20 gallons for the first one, then 10 extra gallons per each new Angelfish.

Bruh who in their right mind would give each and every single angelfish 10 gallons of water? Money isn't free...

Dude people in the us are like, “You need 80 gallon tanks for 2 puny angelfish! Or else they’ll die!” also Litterally every other country, “keeping these couple 30 fish in this 30 gallon tank is so great!” And they still survive and are very healthy and idk why people like to waste so much money

My petsmart is really strict and the employees don’t know me like the petco employees so they don’t love it when I film. Also the way my petsmart is set up, basically everyone who walks in the door has a straight view to the fish so it would be hard to film. Maybe I can sneak some small clips here in their into future videos tho!

It all depends on how new the store is and their fish system. I went to one that had really bad tanks and hardly any fish in any tank and then I went to another petco about 30 minutes away and they had incredible fish there with even arowanas and clown knifes and I asked why they had way better fish and they explained how they have a newer system

@@mrcatman9248 well. that's unfortunate. I would look for fish only stores such as tropical stores. They have much more variety and way cheaper than name brand stores

Loud filters and pumps ? They, Petco and PetSmart, both use a single filtration system for their freshwater fish and the same thing for the saltwater tanks which is pretty quiet .
Just so you know companies like Petco and PetSmart don't quarantine their fish when they come in from being shipped from wherever . I've seen them open a box and dump them in a tank dead ones and all,net out the dead ones and then sell them immediately without any acclimation , medications etc . Their both greedy and cruel to animals . I'd rather go to a privately owned fish store where the people are knowledgeable about their animals and care about them but they're hard to come by these days . I was just at Petco a couple of days ago and getting some specialty fish food and saw how many fish were dead and decaying in several of their tanks which weren't tagged as being unavailable. I advised an employee of the situation and they said their normal fish person wasn't there ,as if that was their reason . I watched this person trying to catch a few fish for a customer and was appalled by how they were rough with the fish and didn't know how to catch them at all . I tried to tell them the best way to do it and in a friendly way but they simply ignored the advice and almost crushed a platy between the net and the glass .
Bottom line is that they don't educate their employees and they don't pay them enough to care about the well being of their stock . I've worked at a tropical fish hatchery before and I know how much they pay for their fish . At the prices they charge they could have several die off and still make money . The hatchery I worked for stopped selling them fish because of the way they were treating them . Our policy for selling our fish was that they had to hold them for at least a week before selling them but they didn't bother to and then they tried to get credit for their losses when they would end up having to refund the customers . We ended up doing a sting operation to find out exactly what they were doing once they received the fish which was recorded . After that we stopped selling them fish .
I'm just talking about their fish but the same attitude applies to their other animals as well . Peta did several under cover investigations into puppy mills and where they get their other animals from and the results were disturbing . If you really love animals and want healthy specimens stay clear of those places and find locally owned shops that have a decent reputation . Personally I would like to see both those places shut down for good .

To begin, the reason I was mentioning the loud filters and pumps is because petco does not use a centralized filtration system like Petsmart. Each 2 towers are run off of their own sump, excluding the feeder system. That can be anywhere from 5-8 return pumps running at once which can produce quite a bit of noise - especially on some of these older Marineland systems. In regards to how pet stores take care of fish, I 100% agree that that is largely dependent on the staff. In an ideal world, all fish should be able to be quarantined before being sold. But in reality, I’ve only ever seen one fish store operate like that. 99% of fish stores (at least in my area) operate on the same basis of receive the fish, put them into tanks and then sell them as soon as possible. There are definitely some chain locations that are better than others. Same goes for local fish stores. I think the general consensus would be to find a store you feel comfortable supporting and do your business with them!
