"A develope doesn't make a dancer., but a dancer makes the develope." Very true.

I started ballet a year ago, as an adult male. There are lots of local and Internet places for help, but you bring a unique angle, a human angle, to this world of classical ballet. It's an amazing world and has become my passion. There are tutorials everywhere, and yours are good, but your heartfelt messages brought my heart into it. So thanks for being that voice and heart, it's really helped keep me going.

I am editing my very first vlog about getting to watch a ballet and it is funny that I tell the same thoughts that you are saying in this video right now.
The difference is that you are a dancer and I sit in the audience and still, the problems seem to be the very same from both perspective.
First, it is clear for everyone after a certain age that you just cannot be your best version all the time... because you are human. You need to be nice to yourself and accept it, and support yourself at the first place. I understand it must be hard as a ballet dancer, because you were trained to be perfect, perfect, perfect for decades and probably not to just stay human AND be the best possible as a "side project".
I sit in the audience and I like a nice ballet a lot but I never would accept any dancer to be perfect. I think that this whole perfection-thing in ballet is not for the audience. Somehow the ballet teachers and the people who lead this "industry" forgot about art and they think, we, the audience, want to see perfection, we want to see 300 fouettés in a second and we want to see a body fat percentage that is close to zero. It is all bullshit! I want to see artistry. Not perfection. I hear it from many other artists on TH-cam and I am sure that the kids who will learn ballet after you, they don´t want to be this perfection-robots, either. As I also said, you will be a great teacher for them, and for that, you just need to go through all this struggles that you have.
Second, about you personally, you have learned already how important it is to question ourselves sometimes. Still, I also saw last year you had a lot of struggle with being ill, with questioning the whole ballet-world, so I am not surprised that you started to think about quitting. Still, it is probably not the time yet, you are just having maybe a hard phase... But you know, when you feel you just don´t like it any more, and you cannot believe in it, then quit. You will find out, what the next step is. You probably know already. 🙂
It is a very important video, for you, and also for the younger dancers who have or will have the same thoughts, sooner or later. You are definitely not alone.

Thank you so much for the comment, first of all please send me a link to your vlog if you will post it! I agree with all you just said, and I’m glad I started this TH-cam channel so I can also see how my thoughts evolve and how a grow as a person and artist! Hopefully I’m able to pass it to the next generation…

Thank you so much for this and speaking about this and sharing your experience. I means a lot to me. I don't dance professionally anymore, but even as a hobby dancer now, I feel this. There are many days I wonder why do I even still dance and do this ? As I'm getting older and more mature I try to bring this philosophy into my way of living and dancing. I'm very much looking forward to more of your videos.

Started ballet at age 67, started en pinte at age 70 so still learning technique but I love your point of view re artistry. I feel you could be a future choreographer

Thank you so much! I have choreographed some small bits but I’m not sure that’s in my future…I feel my passion goes more to help dancers get to their fullest potential but I don’t close any door, who knows what I would be doing in 5 years 😅

Sergio, si pudiera compartirte una visión... "you cannot become an artist, you already ARE an artist". 😉 Una mariposa nunca queda presa de su capullo (técnica); está destinada a volar (ARTE) 🦋. Solo los valientes se atreven a volar a donde su corazón los lleva. ¡Ánimo! ⭐

I'm glad you found a reason to keep dancing. It seems to me that the point of any artistic technique is to give you tools to express the Art; they are not an end in themselves. I think a lot of Artists are sort of perfectionists; but nothing is perfect, and that can destroy the Joy. it's better that you love the music, the story, the expressing of yourself, the movement, the performing, the being part of something greater than yourself. You WILL know when it is really time to retire.

As many have suggested, you could become a ballet instructor, and not entirely leave the profession. I would hate to see someone of your talent leave it behind entirely.
