    Writing this video SUCKED!
    I locked myself into breaking down the story with the other videos and it really bit me in the ass here. The game is so story and dialog heavy!
    I simply do not have 2+ hours of ideas for interesting/funny cutscene edits in me for a GBA game that's mostly voiceless pixels beeping at eachother, but I tried my damnedest!

      @@animeking1357 Encounter Rate was too high like in every 5 steps. Also, back in the day when this game was release, it pretty much requires buying stuff for Wave Command Input to make the most of the game as well as unlocking DX Bosses. Also cards that are introduced exclusively for this game (neither different reincarnation of 1's card nor the one introduced from first game) were terrible, especially real time summoning cards. The main reason, those cards have a cooldown, making it annoying to chain attacks when you need to spam A to execute (as card charging with A button was introduced for this game).

    Regardless the choice of Cybeasts, they both have an almost karmic fitting in Megaman's beast out. If you chose Gregar, Megaman essentialy controls Gospel 1.0, a very ironic power for the hero that fought so many world-destroying viruses to save the world with the power of one, but if you chose Falzar, it's also fitting that we will save the world with the power meant to do so that got derailed, almost like Megaman is redeeming Falzar and by proxy, Cain and his grandfather by adding the final piece to his program: a soul.

    • @spazerabanekozeroshki
      @spazerabanekozeroshki 2 ปีที่แล้ว +40

      I never realized that until now

    • @rushalias8511
      @rushalias8511 2 ปีที่แล้ว +138

      I find it also rather ironic but for a different reason.
      When you stop and look at it. Gregar is essentially what humanity has been seeking for so long...he's a true born A.I.
      Gregar isn't made by anyone like every other boss in the game. Duo was made my aliens and nebula while supposedly the soul was technically extracted and made by nebula and all other bosses are made in a similar vein.
      Gregar is a true A.I. one that does doesn't think or has any pre made instructions from anyone else.
      So to an extent gregar can represent true life on the net and megaman by utilizing that power is truly harnessing the power of the net here.
      Meanwhile with Falzar it's the representation of what a true virus is. Falzar is being made by humans but due to an error in the coding falzar went haywire. In other words Falzar is incomplete much like real viruses, that are incomplete and considered semi living creatures because they need outside help to function. Additionally many viruses for computers can be summed up as one of two things, intentionally made malicious or wrongly programmed code. Falzar is made with the latter but since gregar is also a living being it can also be scene as the latter.
      Since falzar seeks to end gregar one could also say it represents a form of death, as is the case with many victims of viruses and such.
      So when megaman uses them he either harnesses the natural life of the net or the death mankind brings to it.

    One theory I've always had is that the consequences of Cybeasts Gregar and Flazar wrecking havoc on the early stages of the internet causing Alpha itself to freak out and start malfunctioning.
    The mass explosion of data deletion, rampant digital bug errors, and death of countless early security Navis due to the Cybeasts could have easily set Alpha into an over corrective state and set it off, which in turn leads into Bass' backstory as he was blamed for this strange phenomenon caused by Alpha.
    Hell, the tie-in manga, for as shitty as I think it is, suspiciously doesn't reveal Alpha as the true culprit to the data distortions that caused Bass to be framed and the idea that Bass' destiny was set in stone by the very creature he would become greatly associated with is potentially really haunting and cool.
    But it's Battle Network. A lot of the themes that are never explored in the series are forever doomed to be left explained as "probably unintentional."

    I wanna explain why Iris tends to act the way she did, specifically when she chose to allow herself to be captured by the defectors from W3. Remember that Iris was a weapons control Navi, and thus had the ability to use weapons in wars. She has gone through years of torturous moments of using weapons to kill countless people in wars and saw the pain and suffering that she has caused. This made her an extreme pacifist.
    This is precisely why, in every part of the game, Iris will not use force or violence against others.
    Despite how she could have turned the security bots against the defectors, or even threatened them to back off, her strong abhorrence for violence made her unwilling to do either. So she chose peaceful surrender. This is also why she won't simply jack out and run away. Her feelings for Lan make her fear that they'll go after him again, so she remains in their captivity.
    How she was unconscious, though, is another thing.

  • @Polderjoch

    regarding scenarios being cut from this game, the game's files literally go up to "stage 6", with stages being the dungeons, while right now they only go up to 4 (ExpoComp is it's own thing), which prrrretty heavily imply that at the least 2 entire scenarios w dungeons and bosses just got cut out at some point. What with Colonel not really getting his own dungeon for whatever reason and Mayor Cain not... getting a dungeon or navi at all (despite his laptop supposedly being the last defense for opening the underground) it's also. Pretty obvious at least to some extent who the operators would have been at least.

    • @inconemay1441
      @inconemay1441 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I guess Underground is supposed to be Colonel's "dungeon"? Like how Central Area is to CircusMan. Though them going halfway with the endgame boss rush is weird (only half of the WWW bosses were involved, no Colonel rematch in the story, etc)
      Not sure what the implication of the additional stages are, but do we really need more addition to the Plot Armor Gang?

    • @Polderjoch
      @Polderjoch 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@inconemay1441 I'd say the underground is more just the f/g-beast's dungeon than anything. Like i said in the original comment it's probably just that colonel and mayor cain had dedicated dungeons at some point before colonel's dungeon and cain's dungeon and navi got cut out, so it's not like the team rocket squad would have had any other characters to join them anyway. It's also real conspicuous that a boss is missing since the seaside-themed expocomp doesn't have a boss, though it makes some sense colonel didn't get a rematch considering how late in the game he's fought.
      Wrt cain's navi i **believe** the devs also mentioned wanting to revisit unused concepts from previous games, and a cult-y www operator of pharaohman was originally planned for the first game so it's also entirely possible they wanted to recycle pharaohman for cain at some point.

    So, the Eagle thing is a safety mechanic, if too many pillars start to spawn on the map and are starting to grow, the game will occasionally give you a special looking pillar with a bird on it. Killing that one will have your Eagle come down and (if I'm remembering from my recent playthrough correctly) nuke the whole field for you, giving you a chance to catch back up. I have a few guesses for why Dingo ended up in Sky Town and Feng-Tien ended up in Green Town. The most likely reason is they wanted JudgeMan's whip to be a significant threat by making it paralyze, but Tomahawk Cross is immune to paralysis. So, giving the player access to a cross that's immune to paralysis kind of takes the threat out of JudgeMan's whip during his first encounter. I also suspect that at some point in development, JudgeMan could have been an Elec-type Navi, but was later changed to a Non-Typed Navi. But if he was Elec type at some point during development, Tomahawk Cross would be BROKEN in his fight. The charge shot alone would completely invalidate an Elec-type JudgeMan.
    My evidence for thinking that JudgeMan used to be Elec type is that 1) he has his whip attack, and I believe I saw an attack with a book that causes lighting to strike around it, and 2) Ito's thing seems to be electricity. The school encounter involved fire-spewing security bots, and the Navi for the encounter is BlastMan, which is obviously a Fire-type Navi. So, you would think that Ito using punishment bots equipped with electricity would mean that JudgeMan would be an Elec-type Navi. I had just been assuming that up to this point, but apparently, JudgeMan is elementless like base MegaMan. Even Vic follows this trend, as he uses the weather simulation displays in Sky Area to use various Elements to hold up Lan and MegaMan, and ElementMan shifts between various elements.
    JudgeMan in general seems to have a lot of cut content as seen in the video, but my guess was that the order of the link navis was changed for balancing reasons. I like to think that they made both decisions independent of each other, so they just did both instead of doing one or the other. But JudgeMan is a really interesting thing to think about, now that I know about his cut content and now that it was pointed out to me the order of the Falzar crosses compared to where they appear in the menu.

      What would the Cross order rework be then (for both games honestly)? Maybe you get HeatCross VS JudgeMan with Mr. Match kind of fitting with the whole theme of the segment where it's law-centric? Although mechanically it would be kind of fun to have one version be you can roflstomp the boss with TomahawkCross but the other you'd be evenly matched with ElecCross. Granted they could have just balanced it to where you get their weakness Cross AFTER you beat them so you have an easier time with the element afterwards either for regular enemies or a Boss Rush.
      Lord, this is kind of why I hate games that have version exclusive stuff where it's just a handful of differences. The only "split version" game release I really like is when Zelda did it for the Oracle games, there's a basic amount of shared mechanics that make them Zelda games, but how they're utilized and how they go about the story/main focus of both differs enough to be two separate games. One is more combat based, and the other is more puzzle based and the story isn't just copy-pasted between the two. If you aren't going to do the effort of making the versions FEEL like different games/experiences, then you shouldn't make the effort to have exclusive versions at all where the only differences are extremely minor ***looks over at mainline Pokemon games.***

    I think it's actually quite nice that John bitches about the story occasionally. There's no reason that games intended for young-ish audiences can't have a compelling narrative, but often game writers just seem to dismiss building a sensible story because "it's for kids anyway, so what do they care." It'd be nice if writers could break out of that mold and actually have stories that make kids (and possibly adults) think.

      You just said it. Why would kids care about story in games? They just care about having fun, if anything it's just more a nitpick. If I wanted a smartly written story in this universe, I'd just rather go read the manga. Game to play that's fun first, story importance second.

    Battle Network 6 was rushed, no question. But at the time, I saw it as Capcom bidding farewell to the console that had basically saved them during that generation. 6 mainline Battle Network games (adding up to 10 actual games), plus the 2 spinoffs, 4 Mega Man Zero games, the Boktai series, and a lot more, it's probably fair to say that the GBA made Capcom a small fortune. They started experimenting with the DS as early as they could - bringing Ace Attorney to the West on it, yet another RErelease, Battle Network 5, and the Zero Collection, along with Star Force - but Capcom's dev team never seemed to feel at home on DS like they did on GBA.
    So in many ways, it was a huge goodbye to the players and the hardware. I don't think they could have done it in a less rushed way. Even with more time, they'd just have added more stuff, but left huge things out. We'll always find the places they were weak, because of how much love was put into Battle Network as a whole. When even the "bad" game in the series (BCC) is a lot of fun and has as coherent a story as any other game in the series, it says something about them.
    Thank you for reminding me how much I love this game series, with all its goofiness.

    18:51 - lots of bugs are minor enough in 6 that it's worth taking advantage of the extra space even without BugStop. The buster bug only affects non-charged shots and does nothing in Beast-Out, the custom bug doesn't start shrinking your chip selection for 1-3 turns and then takes a few more turns to bring you back below a hand of 5, HP bugs are usually slow enough to be pretty easy to deal with (a bugged HP+500 takes more than a minute of combat to drain as much health as it gave you, even in the worst-case where you immediately get hit five times at the start of the fight to speed up the drain to as bad as it can get, not counting time in the custom screen or when time freezes for navi chips and such). AirShoes just breaks panels when bugged, and if you have AirShoes on you don't really need to care about that very much.

    • @Adoochi
      @Adoochi 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      That's not even going into the benefit some bugs give. The Buster bug gives uncharged shots a small chance to become Normal style charge shots, the Warp bug can help you dodge attacks that would otherwise be unavoidable and can benefit folders that rely on short range attacks a lot. The Emotion bug can give free Full Synchro or Anger, the Panel bug can set up Snake folders easily, the Status bug (using 5+ colours) can give free Invis or Invuln at the start of a fight, while the Encounter and Result bugs can help with grinding chips/zenny respectively. It's best to think of bugs as double-edged swords in BN3, 5 & 6, and proper use of them can seriously help.

    As far as I remember, there are only 3 Megaman subseries with a finale: Battle Network, Star Force, and Zero. The original series is more or less episodic, so it not having a grand finale is less of a detriment, but the cliffhanger is pretty painful in the Legends, ZX, and X series. The X series being stuck with a cliffhanger is especially funny because Zero is supposedly a sequel to that series.

    Story wise 6 is really lacklus but gameplay wise 6 is the perfect sendoff. Crosses capture the fun and flashiness of souls with the reliability of styles and never before seen flexibility. You can strategize around reliable transformations instead of having to dedicate an entire folder and gameplan around a specific soul while being able to adapt on the fly to suit the battles needs. This is only enhanced in the PvP which is so polished and so surprisingly well balanced I'm convinced the devs had to have been playing it amongst themselves in their free time. Playing multiplayer BN6 has given me a whole new appreciation for this entry and has shot it up to my 2nd fav behind 3.

    What a journey. You have brought joy to us with these reviews from game 1 to 6, and you even covered both versions to boot!
    I love how they perfected on the BN4 graphics in this title, the mugshots and the overworld look so pretty.
    On the music side, The hero theme can go....blast itself with how frequently it's repeated in cutscenes and the pitch is grating and tryhard. Otherwise the soundtrack is fantastic.
    The fact that Yuichiro never appears again after his rescue never crossed my mind until your streams. Probably because he has little to no connection to the endgame characters Baryl, Wily and Iris. Though now I am imagining a scenario where Lan is too late to save his dad...
    Completely forgot about Chaud's Speedy Dave disguise, somehow that's a memory hole anytime I try to recall moments in BN6. Not making him version exclusive really brings him back to form, like he and ProtoMan just returned from training in the mountains or something.
    Also forgot about Mayor Cain because the game either tries its hardest to ape X4, or focus on the stupid buffoons blessed with plot armor. Speaking of story moments, a lot of it feels repetitive, like Megaman getting in trouble and Mr Mach's confession in Sky Town.
    This is the game where Lan's friends' Navis being useless is really irritating. They just stand there and not resist just so Mr. Clown and his operator can be important and competent.
    These new characters really feel like afterthoughts, probably because the Link Navis are optional content, the villain ensemble are mostly fanmade designs, and the series was on a sharp decline at the time.
    All the repetitive Navi scenarios in the games overall really makes me appreciate TomahawkMan. DustMan and ChargeMan's minigames as it utilizes the battle arena engine and puts a twist on it.
    BN6 would definitely benefit from an enhanced port considering how much had to be cut to save space in the GBA cartridge, yet the Wii U version was as untouched as it is, so I'm really pessimistic on them restoring the cut content for the Legacy Collection.
    Looking years ahead in the future, not too keen on the "idolization" of the franchise going forward starting from Star Force. I knew the franchise is hemmorhaging audiences and Capcom wanted to draw appeal from dedicated fans, but man...

    Regardless it's still kinda crazy that you can go do a crazy amount of side stuff at this point considering there's about 1/4 to 1/3 of the main game left. Also it's funny imaging Lan's old friends run around for hours while he does all the side content.

    While I know Megaman will be taking a break from this channel for a while, I would be down for some more series-type of videos. Maybe a series of quicker games so that you don’t need to stress so hard to get things uploaded? Still, BN is what got me to this channel, and I plan to stick around as long as I can.

    If the order of getting Tengu Cross and Tomahawk Cross was actually switched, I think the reason would be so players of Falzar version didn't have an unfair advantage against Gregar players when fighting Judgeman, since you can unlock the cross in Green Town before that scenario starts. Another reason could be so that Falzar and Gregar players would have access to crosses in each element wheel at the point in the game when they can unlock two crosses, and it makes more sense for Slash to be in Green Town and Elec in Sky Town.
    I also had noticed the redundancy of Dust Cross/Charge Cross in their respective versions, I think this is another balancing issue, where they want players of each version to only have access to two of the four elements in each wheel.
    Something I don't think you pointed out and I remember other players noticing back when this game came out, was that most of Megaman's crosses look like the robot masters the Navi is based on, or at least took heavier inspiration from them than their respective navis. This is at least the case for Ground, Dust, Charge, Elec (sorta), and Aqua. Heatman, Tenguman, and Tomahawkman are basically one-to-one with their robot masters. Just a cool nod to the classic games
    I always thought the crosses looked cooler than the soul unisons, more like a badass armor (specifically Aqua and Tomahawk vs their soul versions) than the souls were.
    It was a lot of fun reliving the nostalgia of these games I played in my childhood, thanks for making these reviews 🤘

      @@bloodtingeproto I'm willing to bet that JudgeMan was an elec Navi at some point during development, then they changed him to non-typed for some reason. If I had to guess, I the order of balancing changes went like this: swap TenguMan and TomahawkMan so JudgeMan doesn't die in one hit, "we've run into a snag with JudgeMan", change his typing, just sorta forget to swap the Link Navis back.
      Edit: Oh yeah, there's also the fact that Status Guard completely neuters JudgeMan's whip.

    Was there ever an explanation for the story difference between Soul Unison and Cross Change?
    Network 4 explains that Megaman can't use the Style System anymore because he lost change.bat due to him being deleted and remade from scratch after the events of the epilogue.
    Is Cross simply a more advanced and accessible version of Unison that other Navi's can use?

    I am looking forward to the Battle Network collection after watching all your videos. I just hope that they improve the game in ways instead of a 1-1 copy and graphic changes. Like having it where you have access to the other version's content (chips, souls, etc.) during the postgame and turning random battles off.

    Fantastic work reviewing all six Battle Network games! I know it was a long, slow, often agonizing process, but it's been wonderful watching you play through and break down all of these, and your journey through this series makes up some of my favorite videos on youtube.
    Watch Capcom include the dab patch in the Legacy Collection and no online multiplayer.

    Survival battles would be way more interesting if there were optional ones hidden across the net/side comps that actually measured your ranking and rewarded special "swarm" chips that did scaling damage based on your performance in the survival battle.
    Like a Mettaur Swarm chip that summoned a met to attack each row a number of times based on chip level (1,2,3) for scaling damage (like base as 40+Scaling(max 60 total) for 1 hit to eachrow, level 2 as 30+Scaling (max 50 total). But hits twice, level 3 could be same as level 2 but hits 3x, maybe even a PA that just changed the charged shot to dynawave for the battle.
