well it’s easy honestly. practice catching a lot and throwing. ofc practice on hitting it’s important. make sure you work out own your own for your legs because they are going to kill you when you start
So I’m short and came from fast pitching and now play slowpitch. Some days I hit line drives down third and other days I completely swing and miss and even strike out by foul balls it’s so frustrating. I know the talent and power is there but I keep making myself loook like a fool do you have any recommendations or drills to help ?
@@ingrid3844 for fast balls I usally be ready to swing when the ball is about to release. all about the timing, when the ball is almost about to be released be ready to swing. do whatever, lift your leg up a tad (personally I do a tad) but other then that if your still struggling move to the back on the box. it gives you time to swing!
th-cam.com/video/dvOCQ-GFuoQ/w-d-xo.html That video helped me if you're still playing. Going from baseball to softball is hard and the feel is very 'foreign'. Have to retrain your muscle memory which isn't easy.
Honestly, don't try hitting it as hard as you can. Stand a little taller. Relax. You won't start your swing till the ball is halfway to you. Try hard slap from the right side, assuming you are a righty. Step towards the hole your trying to hit to. Watch what the good batters are doing. There's slow pitch videos on TH-cam too. Hope that helps
Thanks Matt I’ve seen a lot of your videos and appreciate them a lot as my 10 yo dtr just starting her first year of softball. I played ball as a kid and had decent skills but much different teaching it! It’s been great fun though showing her as much as I know. But great I can add some pro level insights from you as well. Let us know if you are in the SF Bay Area and I’ll make sure to sign her up for a swing analysis with you!
Hi Matt ! A problem we have is stepping too early and sort of wasting our coil - any tips? The step should be immediately before we start our rotation to swing ? (Given a normal pitch speed?)
(Assuming you're correct about your perfect timing. BTW, perfect timing would result in putting the ball in play exactly where you want it.) Then, it's an issue of moving the head of the bat in the correct swing plane with the ball for as long as possible. Watch some hitting tips from the MLB hitting legend Tony Gwynn. He talks about balance throughout your stance and load before the swing. The other thing he says is to swing the knob to the ball, not the barrel. Swinging the knob allows you to get the barrel into the correct plane of travel with the ball for the longest time possible. Many hitters make the mistake of doing the opposite, which is throwing the barrel at the ball, which can create bat angles to the ball that isn't aligned with the ball path. Throwing the barrel tends to require perfect vertical timing in addition to when the ball reaches the plate. That severely narrows your opportunity to make contact. Knob/ball in-plane alignment allows you to be a little early or a little late and still hit the ball in play. Boom!
I wasn’t sure what to think until I looked up your MLB career and stats, that said you had a tremendous career .193 BA, 1 HR, and 3 RBIs......that HR in Denver of course.

I can’t be the only one who lacks on knowing went to swing or not.
edit: lol I quit softball and went back to showjumping.
for sure..I kinda got it down but not enough for a full swing
It stresses me out sm
Always prep to swing and then if u see it's a ball, still got through the motions of the swing but hold the bat

Lol I’m going from slow to fast. Any tips for me? What I can tell you is wait for the ball to come, don’t reach. Also keep your eye on it.

How can I hit ball between 1st and 2nd? The 3rd bssemen and ss are very good. 1st and 2nd suck.
My softball team lost the tournament because I didn't get the timing down so ima be ready next year let's see if this works
But the worst thing is striking out on a change up cause of your timing😥

I think the key is working on staying coiled as you stride, that way if you start a bit too early, you can still control your weight and stay coiled
Ty!
You’re so clutch I have tryouts tomorrow
My daughter just moved up in girls fast pitch and for some reason is not adjusting to the new speed. How can I help her
I have a question, so my timing is darn near perfect, but I can't get my bat to connect with the ball. Any tips?
Make sure your eyes are on the ball idk

I would want to meet this guy
Maybe one day!
Antonelli Softball my daughter needs to meet you for hitting lol
I mean just being drafted puts him in the top 1%. Kinda a dumb comment.
how about lead off hitter? not a chance huh?
Do it during pitcher warm-ups
Narrated by John C. Reilly
Needs to be changed to “What’s up ladies...”
What about "what's up y'all"?
idk how to play ):

What does that have to do with anything? Because I wasn’t a hall of famer I can’t coach? Because so many people in the world played in the MLB right?
Antonelli Softball Matt don’t waste ur time with those comments brotha !!!!!
Keep making them vids bro !!!
