Your welcome Mickey. That was our first night doing it. It runs really well after you get a few sessions under the belt. It really helped out in game this weekend.

The drill looks interesting. Some things would have to be modified, in my opinion> 1. Attack with more speed. 2. Attackers with more depth. 3. Receivers with different angles of attack. 4. Improve passing skills. 5. First, it would be interesting to start with a 3 vs 3 and then move on to a 3 vs 4 and then vs 5. Or in the 3 vs 3 version, place a 4 player as the second defensive line. Kind regards.

Nice drill - some realism could be implemented by playing the ball from a breakdown. There are very few situations where five players are so tightly aligned whilst the attack receive the ball with their back facing the defence. Concept of blitz is there though!

Thank you Vinnie. Initially came u with drill to work line speed and prevent attackers from getting to gain line. after doing this a few sessions, we widened the attack and turned them about face

This is a good drill! 5 defenders against 3 attackers in a real game if defense isn’t switched on 3 attackers can run through 5 defenders!!

You have already created an impossible situation for the attacking team as they are not aligned. The rush defense is used when you back yourself to stop the ball from getting around your defense, you align outside shoulder in rather than inside shoulder out, you drift in rather than out. You would be better off doing it with a backline set up facing the opposition say 4 v 4, 10 yds apart, when the ball is played the defense rushes up and in attempting to stop the ball from getting wide. If it was 3 flat attackers against 5 defenders as you set up, only a fool would attempt to run. With a rush defense, the wider player tends to lead it usually 13 and they may actually lead the line, i.e the outside players come up quicker than the inside defenders to cut the line off. You have created a loose play situation where 5 players rush up to tackle 3 flat players caught flat-footed, that's not an organized rush defense, its just a defense that is rushing.

Thank you I appreciate that. When I designed the drill, my goal was just to have defense work on line speed and come up hard preventing the attackers from reaching gain line Definitely will incorporate your suggestions.
