1959 Grundig Transistor Box 59 (made in in Germany)

This model is an updated version of the original "Transistor Box" which came out in 1958 (do any of you know what was changed?).
This nice little 5 transistor set has since been recapped and cleaned up, but it is still not perfect and needs further work. FYI, this set was hard to dissemble safely, as is typical for both Grundig radios in general, and sets with leather cases specifically (which often shrink a bit with age).

Betcha this one received it's share of RIAS broadcasts in it's day! My guess is the conditioner used was probably a siliconized repellent for kids boots/shoes. Lexol has always treated me well!

+AMStationEngineer This example is the domestic version (no civil defense marks), so it probably did! I used Lexol on the radio after I shot the video and unfortunately it didn't clean up as well as I thought it would, because some of the marks are actually stains.

do you collect any of the larger Grundigs? Satellit's? I have had several and I just like the look..feel..and sound..but thx for a rare look at this radio...

+iamrichrocker I actually currently have 3 examples of the satelit 6000, and I hope to make 2 nice ones from the parts (none are in perfect shape). I was going to post a video on one of them, but it did not turn out well.
