- Our RV Travel Plans have been stopped because of a new health crisis with Larry. He went to an emergency room in Reno, Nevada. It does not seem related to his rare form of MS Neuro disease as of now

Unfortunately, we had no treatment plan or positive diagnosis. So our RV travel plans have been stopped - now focusing on getting Larry to a better hospital with specialist in Portland, Oregon. @OHSUNews
We have enjoyed our stay at Gold Ranch Casino & RV Resort. Staff has been very friendly and quick to reply with emails and phone calls. Unfortunately, we did not get a chance to enjoy the amenities, the Fourth of July Fireworks close by or any other adventures while here - and we are leaving 2 days early.

If I were you, I'd put the RV in temporary storage, get on a plane and fly home to your familiar large learning/teaching hospital.

As a nurse I can say ensure or boost is ok but not enough calories. If you add protein powder, ice cream to the ensure and blend. It helps bring calories up with fats,sugar and protein. As well you could add banana for some potassium. I hope they figure this out for you very soon.
Have you tried Unjury protein products. They have yummy flavors that blend very easily. It is medical grade easily digestible and they have beef and chx flavored too. Individual pouches and cans. Look it up.
I don’t believe this is sold in Canada. Health Canada regulates protein supplements. There are MANY medications or medically supported products healthy Canada will not approve for use up here. A lot of US products are not sold up here due to Canada requirements being so strict
Best wishes for you Larry. I have a friend diagnosed with abdominal migraines after 6 years of testing. A teaching hospital is the best. Mesenteric artery complications are hard to diagnosis. Bentyl is a smooth muscle relaxer helps with GI pain. Make your own smoothies ensure is junk. GailM RN

So sorry this happen to you. We are retired seniors from MN. This same thing happen to us last winter. Make sure you also get an oral CT scan along with the IV contrast CT scan. Last year my husband got totally misdiagnosed in San Diego hospitals. He had a ruptured fistula in his colon to bladder. This only shows up in oral contrast. We were told to go back to MN to get care. This was unacceptable advice. This was Jan 2024 we had a Solitude 38 FT pulled with F450. Most of roads back to MN snowed in or closed. His weight in Oct was 180 lbs when I finally got him to Florida hospital it was 150 lbs. I took driving lessons from CDL instructor so I can drive and park our huge rig. We had many people tell us to get him to Florida they know how to handle snowbirds, plus roads are open and free of ice/snow. I took all the major roads over to Florida I got there in 4 days. I also have a trauma nurse background so I finally figured out what was wrong with him. I kept him hydrated and had him drinking all liquid protein supplements(Ensure) and electrolytes replacement. The ER in Florida as soon as she saw him she started IV and antibiotics. I gave her both of IV contrast from 2 hospital in CA and she immediately ordered oral and IV CT scan again. Sure enough it only showed up in oral. He went straight into surgery. We sold the Solitude and F450 and bought a Nexus Super C Rv and tow F250 truck. The Super C I can handle the set up and take down without asking for help. If someone is not feeling well can go in back and lay down. So much easier to drive and easier to RV with. Best of luck and keeping you in our prayers.

I live in Oregon and OHSU is an outstanding hospital! I got my cochlear implants there and currently my aunt is getting her cancer treatments there. Excellent choice!

15 days into our full time life on the road living in our RV I had a terrible bellyache. Had my husband take me to an ER in Rapid City SD, 10 hours later I had my gallbladder removed. We are from Nebraska. Talk about shocking! Thank goodness the hospital took me in, I had a good doctor. My gallbladder surgery was not routine, I had a friable bleeding excessively situation, bad gallbladder with 100’s of stones, sludge, etc. Had to have a second surgery the next day (ERCP) definitely NOT a fun time but necessary. We were able to extend our camping reservations till I was ready to hit the road again. Hopefully you find a good doctor that can help you too! 🙏🙏🙏

Larry had his gallbladder out over a decade ago. I remember that pain he had.

I strained to hit the “like” button because this is not something to like. The best, and sometimes only, thing to do in a situation like this is to come up with a plan and you’ve done that. The plan sounds both doable and reasonable. The only other thing to do is STAY POSITIVE! Larry, you’re going to be fine! Alice, he’s going to be fine!! And how sweet of you Alice to wish people in CA well because of the fires. The only advice is to have a plan for the situation and any deviations. You’re doing that.

Check with the hospital security department. Most major medical centers have long term rv parking available. Some have electric sites. Great tip about small local hospitals...they are not equipped or staffed with specialty physicians. Your best bet when traveling is finding a large teaching hospital. If they are a Level 1 trauma center they are required to have all subspecialities "in house " 24 hrs a day. Good luck.

This kind of scary stuff is why we decided to move on from a travel trailer to a small class C. Now we don't live in it, but after 5 years I finally said I wasn't going to ever feel comfortable towing the rig and I didn't want to be stranded somewhere if something happened to him. I do drive the Class C. Now I don't love doing it in bad traffic, but at least I know I can if I have to. Hope the doctors at Shands can help.

I know exactly what you mean. When Larry first got sick with MOGAD a couple of years ago, I had little time driving the dually. I drove it for months while he was in hospitals. I still don’t like the dually but I can do it.
Once we get a homebase, I’d like a Class C. My fear is tail swing in a towable.
Unfortunately, we had a bad 13 hours in ER at Shands.
But things are starting to turn around 🤗

I feel for you guys and I'm praying for healing and strength. My husband is recovering from a terrible illness. He finally completed seven weeks of radiation and chemo treatments, he lost more than 30 lbs. He continue to live on Ensure complete and he is slowly gaining weight. We are hoping and praying he is fully healed. I would like to give you guys a big hug.

Larry & Alice - You are in our thoughts and prayers. Our 2 daughters had very difficult deliveries at OHSU - all very successful. The medical staff and care there is amazing. My wife and I (4years full time) are nearby and have a Ram 3500 dually, and can come help as needed.

Prayers for you both. Dealt with cancer, chemo, radiation, and surgeries for two years. When I got better, we started traveling because we realized that there are no guarantees for a tomorrow. We have been able to experience and see things (as you also have) that most don't get the opportunity. Blessed in that regard! But, my biggest fear is getting sick again on the road and essentially stranding my wife. Difficult to prepare for but a reality, especially for seniors.
Larry, you definitely understand what we are going through.
It is a stressor on the road.

We were wondering the same. Both of them flying back GNV, to consult with their known doctors / hospital seems like the best option. Temporarily park the RV in self storage if need be.
I agree….fly yourself home…….i had to have emergency surgery when we were traveling . After the surgery I had to go to a rehab home because we had no home to recoup……I felt so trapped…….took about 6 weeks before I could fly home……so wished I was at my own home with my own doctors and friends.
We are members. But no place to stay long term in Florida. No place to have RV taken
