  • I hope you enjoy my take on an old English tune - The Abbots Bromley Horn dance! I live not far from where this long-standing medieval traditional dance is performed, which happens annually on Wakes Monday; the Monday that follows the first Sunday subsequent to 4 September. But from what I have seen, the dances are done to more common English session or Morris tunes (things the musicians are familiar with) rather than this haunting tune.
You'll more than likely detect a little 'Rhythmical Rubbish' in the final round of the melody - I left it in to show I am only human, and I make mistakes! Plus, this was the best of 7 takes, and I have other tunes to record this afternoon!

I believe this tune is known as the "after dark" or "woo-woo" one for the Abbots Bromley Horn Dance. Probably played more commonly in the USA than in the UK?

It's played in sessions here but do you play it for dance in the US at all? I like the idea of an 'after dark' abbots bromley tune!

@@MelBiggsMusic I'm in the UK, but I believe it's popular at Renaissance Fairs in the USA.

Apparently, the tune was never played for the the actual Abbots Bromley Horn dance - it really doesn't suit.
But it does turn up at the Thaxted Morris Weekend Of Dance - as a bizarre slow motion Whicker Manesque evening 'horn' dance.
