I love them too. If you wait for the sales before school starts, they are ridiculously cheap (50 cents at Staples!).

Love that it is College Ruled, too! I only buy notebooks with College Ruled,…smaller spaces,…more lines! …to accommodate smaller writing. Bigger spaces make me feel like I’m in kindergarten 😂

I have a hardcover UStyle dot grid journal that was my bullet journal for many months (recently had to change it because I ran out of pages). It was budget and fountain pen friendly.

I have found graph paper comp books in Office Depot, Amazon, and Daiso
I once had a composition book that the top half of the page was blank and the bottom half was lined. I wish I could find it again. It was great to doodle a picture on the top And write about on the bottom. Almost like a format to write a children's book in or storyboard or scrapbook, add photos, use as a recipe book, so many uses.
Even to inventory an area. You could have a picture of your item, receipts, and have documentation for insurance purposes or to prove ownership, help after a burglary, get repaired under warranty etc. With date purchased, from where, receipt showing amount. Serial numbers
You could document a trip you were on. I remember using mine at summer camp with my child. I had a camera, but it was fun trying to draw stuff myself, I even tore out some pages and sent a letter home to the other parent and child with silly pictures. It just makes letters more fun to illustrate them.
@recoveringsoul I call those comp books “draw & tell”. Walmart & Target will have those in stock during back-to-school season.

I've been using composition notebooks from various manufacturers lately and have been surprised at how well the paper accepts many inks. Will definitely check out the U Style Collection. P.S. -> Thumbs up on the Maxpedition gear!

Not expecting Tomoe River, but the Walmart ones you recommended show an impressive amount of sheen and shading. Best so far are the craft cover personal notebooks and they don’t have that pregnancy pink line either. My absolute faves. Thank you!
Yeah, Noodlers is permanently off my list, anyway-the racism-so no problem lol. I do use some wet inks-Emerald of Chivor in my Lamy Safari broad is just a freakin river-so I appreciate the check!

I’ve seen in a couple other TH-cam videos that composition books made in Vietnam are supposed to be best paper quality for no bleeding. Wexford is made in Vietnam I believe. Check the back cover label.
Target has the Vietnam made available in their Back to School section. Definitely a difference in paper quality.

I love that pink strip. It’s great for emphasizing the date, or subject etc.
I do use the margin area myself, for a date, or a note (a dollar sign if I paid a bill for example), when I take medicine, phone calls, mail, eat, note the weather, all kinds of things
Sometimes I go back after the event written about to call attention to stuff I realized later on.
I learned something new. I am always at CVS and have seen the Caliber brand. Will definitely give that brand a try! I also love your excitement of finding budget friendly notebooks which is why I love watching your videos!

I have so many favorite composition size notebooks. They are so affordable and I love unique covers that aren’t the traditional style. Ive got quite a few that work well with FPs and I’ve got some amazing composition covers from ChicSparrow (I have two videos on them on my channel).

I found that black U-Style composition notebook today in Safeway supermarket. I grabbed it! I may use it when I’m working an office job again. I did check Albertsons/Lucky first, but they didn’t have it, FWIW.
You’re right, it’s a very classy and professional looking notebook. The cover is like faux-leather and the lines appear to be brown toned (or something other than the usual blue).
We don't have Albertsons or Safeways in Central Florida so I Googled U Style Composition notebooks. There were a bunch of different styles and it said you could find them at Walmart. Interestingly your video shows up in the middle of all the U Style Composition notebooks!

I've heard that comp notebooks made in USA or Vietnam have better paper than made in India or China.

This doesn't even touch the Caliber Executive Notebook from CVS Pharmacy! Caliber Executive Notebook from CVS Pharmacy, OR Bestand Greenroom Notebooks from Target, along with Pilot G-2 Gel Pens are all you need! 0.7mm and 1.0mm bold tip!
A word about Walmart Pen+ Gear; It’s fountain pen friendly if you get paper from the Brazil factory. The US paper is not at all good for fountain pens. Even the lines printed on the page show feathering on the US comp books!

Just listened And heard about the Fountain Pen test. Thank you very much for this video. I have a whole stack of marble covered notebooks that I use and find that they are pretty good with many different Fountain Pen inks however, as you indicated they are the most professional looking. I appreciate you posting this video and I am going to try to find these notebooks on the market.
I am super picky with my notebooks and that composition notebook is an amazing find between the grey lines and no pink margin line it is so perfect. Really hope I can find it by me. Thanks for the review, great video ✌📖
You do realize you can just decorate your 50 cent marble comp notebook. Papers, napkin decoupage, paining.
So nice, we haven't those stores around here but it is certainly something to look for. I am so sorry about Diamond's store!!! I own several of his covers and they are so lovely. I may have to go quick order one of those patchwork ones. I've always wanted one.
In general the composition books that are made in Vietnam are the ones you want to buy. The quality is top notch.

Different areas must get different versions of those composition books because the JOT ones at my Dollar Tree suck for anything but pencil and ballpoint pens...even the gel/rollerball pens bleed through...I just tried a test with a fountain pen with Robert Oster Blue Moon ink and it bled through onto the next page. I haven't found a composition book with decent paper anywhere. The only paper I've had any luck with is the Rhodia notebooks, expensive but the fountain pen ink, and rollerball/gel pen inks don't bleed through.
Practically all regular composition lined notebooks, and filler paper will always have the pink, or red margin line, just the way most papers for everyday writing are....there are some unlined composition notebooks out there, hard to find those though for some reason. I wonder if the Rhodia dot grid notebooks have margin lines on them? I don't have any so I don't know.
Made in USA or Vietnam have better paper. India and China made have poorer quality paper.
I've watched other videos about the paper quality and those people say it makes a difference based on where the composition notebooks where made. Vietnam is supposed to be the best quality, USA good quality, India and China bad quality
Interesting. Must vary from factory & manufacturer. I do enjoy Rhodia and Clairefontaine when I'm feeling "fancy." Very solid paper choices!
@@Deb_BG In my experience, paper made in the USA is not the most reliable or best. Ex. being MEAD brand notebooks. Perhaps I'm not looking in the right places? I've had good luck with Vietnam and India.

Wish there were more fountain pen friendly filler papers out there for notebooks/binders....I can't seem to really find anything.
Have you tried the sharpie Pen.? It’s a felt tip fine pen and it does not bleed! It is my favorite pen.

I saw this video in my feed so I clicked on it! I'm now Currently Your Newest Subscriber!!! I *NEED* this Notebook!!! I've never heard Albertsons or Safeway, but I'm definitely going to be on the hunt for that Gorgeous Sleek, Black Notebook! I have LOADS of those big plastic totes with lids that are FULL of all types of Notebooks;All of which don't have even the tiniest bit of clear writing space because I've filled every bit of every page! I've always been "A Writer!" And I've kept pretty much EVERY SINGLE Diary, Journal, Planner & Notebook (There's WAY MORE notebooks than cute Diaries or Fancy Journals! I just turned 43 a few days ago & I'd still rather spend a few dollars (Especially $2.25) on Notebooks instead of $20'ish Dollars & Up on a Pretty, Well-Made Journals when they'd both do the same thing... Freeing Up any extra money to use for Art. & crafting Supplies! LOL! I've been wanting to try a REALLY NICE Fountain Pen & This Year, I'm also wanting to get some Dip Pens with different tips & some good ink so I can try my hand at Calligraphy! (Wait, Is that the same thing as a Fountain Pen? LOL) I've played around with For/Faux Calligraphy (But going back & thickening the down strokes), but I'd love to try to learn to do the real thing! LOL! I often alter the Cover of my Notebooks by covering it with paper & sometimes fabric. I'd LOVE to find a good, inexpensive notebook that I could write in *AND* use different mediums in (Like Color Pencils, Gel Pens, Markers & MAYBE EVEN Watercolors!!! _But I'm sure that may be pushing it! How do you get stickers to stick on the shiny covers. This comp book, moleskine, etc.?
Just stick them on. Stickers typically have good adhesive to them.

I think it’s interesting that just like the caliber brand that is at CVS the ones that you got from Albertsons and Safeway are also made in Vietnam. I’ve noticed that papers made in Vietnam for some reason our fountain pen and Gel pen friendly. I wish we had an Albertsons or a Safeway I’d be heading out soon to find the all black one. Up here in New Hampshire there is no such thing.
I feel like that the paper quality from places like Vietnam is because they are fountain pen users themselves. I feel like a lot of Asian countries use them.

A person can get 2/$1.00 right before school. The solid black one looks like a step up. I usually make the marble ones into journals; a person can start by gluing a beautiful photo on the cover to make it personal. Lovely...
I should not be surprised that they hold up under the ink, girls; after all they are composition books. I always liked the new school supplies years ago when I was a young girl.

I would suggest not buying more noodler's inks because the creator is known for being antisemetic and a not so great person.

@@SeaweedKisses I love J. Herbin Perle Noire. I use it in my Pilot E95s and Parker Sonnet fountain pens, which have gold Fine nibs. It is not a dark black ink, but it is a trouble free ink. Another great brand of ink for you to try is the Japanese Iroshizuku line of inks. Thank you for your videos.
I would say he is not antisemetic, people just tend to over react to things. All this antisemitic stuff was because a bottle of ink had a Jewish man with devil horns on the label, nobody mentioned he was a greedy unlikable person just that he was Jewish. Also he didn't even know the man was Jewish.
People will believe what they want to believe or listen to whomever. If the ink is good or great then the ink is just that.
I for one will continue to use his ink because I enjoy his inks, even if he bent the knee in changing some of the names of his ink to appease goulet pens and the pc mob.
