    Finally some REAL analysis. All too often the cliche warriors love to spit out the usual fare... they are too top heavy... not enough depth... they need to get tougher... they just need to get to the net. You hear it from every fan base in every market especially Toronto. So happy to see someone who gets it try and educate what the players are actually trying to do in the game. Great job!

    The Leafs...let's refer to this as the Mathews Era because they finished last in the NHL and drafted Auston Mathews.
    - they have never had good defense in the Mathews Era.
    - they have had some strong goaltending but never strong defense to support them.
    - they have overpaid all of their 'star players'.
    - Keefe has never had a detectable positive influence on the team.
    Solutions:
    - Keefe needs to go.
    - They need a strong Defensive leader.

      Trade Mathews for1 decent forwards and a two top tier D-men and they'll get further in the playoffs than they have with Mathews on the team. Mathews' goals don't translate to wins. He can score all he wants but if the team is going to give up more goals than they score, they'll just repeat past performances. Leafs don't have to win games by 3 or 4 goals, they need to stop allowing so many and outscore their opponents by 1 or 2 goals instead. Ovechkin is arguably the best goal scorer of the last 20 years and he has 1 cup. How many Rocket Richard trophy winners have won a cup in the last 15 years? Get rid of him.

    Two high-powered offensive teams, Oilers and Leafs, with the same problem - simply trying to outscore their opponents with no unified commitment to team defense. All too often defensive players get taken for granted and disrespected by both the ice time they are given as well as their pay, while the narcissistic glory boys (goal-scorers) simply seek to pad their stats. I suggest both the Oilers and Leafs management take a good hard look at the Vegas Golden Knights on how to balance offense with a commitment to team defense as that is what wins Stanley Cups.

    Most of those goals are goals I would not expect to see go in against the goalies at the drop-in hockey sessions I attend. A clear look from a bad angle or a fifty foot shot should never go in. If you compare the situation, angle, and distance to the same thing against either Canuck goalie this year you would see the exact same play- except that the goalie stops the puck. Hence being outshot by Edmonton 19-2 at one point but only being down one. Straight shots just never go in. Just like my drop in games.

I was a big Bertuzzi fan before he joined the Leafs and was stoked when he signed, but he’s a fish out of water here. It’s easy to see why did well with the Bruins last spring because…well…he played with the Bruins. Yet they were also eliminated by an overachieving Florida team. The bottom line is there is no money to sign a decent supporting cast. Dubas overpaid for Tavares, Marner and Mathews, and now Mathews is gonna get a bigger chunk of the whole pie starting next year. Need to dump the coach as the start and trade one of the Core four. That has to be Marner. He and Willie play the same pansy style, so we only need to keep one, not both. Willie has a better shot and is a better skater. Things should get better once Tavares pay is off the books.

    Leafs are now 3-5-0 at home, allowing 40 goals in those 8 games. That’s 5 goals against per game…. At HOME.

    Well, they are worse defensively than last year.. it's kind of expected. Accari, Ror, Schenn ect for Klingberg, Domi, Reaves. Plus Samsonov's bubble burst.

    I tried to explain to everyone last year with all the changes the makemelaughs made, they will have no defense or goaltending or pk. It is really simple, if you pay 4 forwards over half your cap, less then half a cap is available for the other 22 players (for depth) which means junior level contracts for the rest of the team. It should be very very simple to figure this out.

    I'm glad Freddie got out of that situation in Toronto and taking all the blame for the Leafs garbage defense that they've had for years. Sure he gets injured a lot but he has great numbers with a real defense

  • @SRQBID
    @SRQBID 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I have a nightmare scenario for Leafs fans: forcing heavier minutes onto the core scorers will inevitably lead to one of them getting injured. With what we're seeing so far this season, how would this team look without Matthews, Marner, Nylander?
    And consistently putting Woll under duress may cause a development backslide. If so, it'll be with Samsonov as the only other goaltender option.
    Leafs are flirting with disaster every game. And, looking at their history, it'll be something like a un-thought-of game against the Yotes where things finally fall apart.

  • @Chaosmite
    @Chaosmite 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Kyle Dubris created this mess and he’s doing the same at Pittsburgh. He doesn’t pick defense players, just goal scorers. If your goal scorers dont get scores in a game, then they will loose. He created a team that’s heavily dependent on score goaling their way out of a defense problem.

  • @wandregisel6385
    @wandregisel6385 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I wouldn't say they've always been trying to outscore their problems. last year they were tied for 5th in goals against. This despite the fact the defense then wasn't that good on paper either (obviously not as bad as now). We had a system then, and it seemed to work. Now, I see 3 people go for the same guy and leave someone else completely open. It's crazy how bad the difference is

    It's funny watching teams like the Oilers and Leafs just draft players based on offensive skill when there is so much more to it than that. Teams like the Bruins and Golden Knights don't have nearly the star power but are built with players with good character, work ethic, put the team ahead of themselves.

    The Leafs are like Mike McCarthy's Packers: a couple of highly skilled players trying to bail out an otherwise mediocre team. It's a winning strategy for the regular season, but it just doesn't work when the season is on the line and you're facing well-structured and disciplined teams.

  • @jagmaster8647

    All of these comparisons, I see in the oilers the team that I cheer for. It’s sad really. There’s many factors that have lead to this with these two teams. Then getting these massive offensive talents in Mathews and marner (mcdavid and draisaital) where a lot of money needs to allocated. The culture of these teams becomes offensive in nature the gms keep trying to “buy” into their massive offensive talents but leave goaltending and defencemen in the dust.

    Funny how many people are saying the Leafs are the Oilers of the East division and it's 100% accurate. As the video points out, they have bad defense and bad goaltending that's occasionally bailed out by their massive amount of offensive talent.
