How President Obasanjo Narrated the Cause of Death of His Wife, Stella

- In this edition of BIH we take you back in time to the year 2005, the year that Chief Mrs Stella Obasanjo, wife of the then President of Nigeria passed on in faraway Spain. Her remains were flown back to Nigeria for burial amidst several theories about the cause of her death. Stella’s death was a shocker to the Nation and Nigeria was in a period of national mourning. Upon the conclusion of funeral arrangements, her body was taken to Obasanjo’s family home in Abeokuta where the remains were interred amidst tears from family members, loved ones and sympathizers in attendance at the funeral. The ceremony was televised across various television channels for the entire nation to join and for those in the diaspora to also join.

She was the best first lady Nigeria ever had despite everything.

It was a Dark-Black Sunday that year.
When her casket arrived in Abeokuta later for interment, I saw the route the hearse was passing to Obasanjo's house on NTA because the journey was televised.
I ran a long distance from our house to the IBB Boulevard Express Way to watch the procession and pay my respect...this was as an adolescent.
I remember people mistaking my mum to be Stella Obasanjo then. The resemblance was striking ❤
. The devil deceived her in thinking she wasn't beautiful enough whereas her beauty was more within.
May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.
