    Amazing!
    The 80s gymnastics was the best years of gymanstics. Such new faces and everything was original.

    @flyergymgirl125 - I was just about to write - this is when gymnastics was truly *artistic* - not just tumbling routines like today ..... almost breaks my heart to watch it.

    God I miss 80s gymnastics. So glad I grew up with this kinda gymnastics vs what we have today. Way more graceful, artistic and original.
    Your eyes were always amazed at the little individual tricks.
    Now it's all about difficult skills and no grace, no originality. It really shouldn't be called artistic gymnastics anymore. More like power gymnastics! Long live the 80s....long live the 80s..Bad hair, bad fashion but great music and great gymnastics!!

      Lizzie Beth: I agree. But I would label today's gymnasts more with the bad fashion label. They look like they are heat-wrapped in shiny plastic with their butts hanging out.

    I think I should watch more 80s bars. It's the transition - a bit of old bars and a bit of new.
    I swear some of the beam tumbling was better than what I see today.

    The 80s & early 90s I think are my favorite era for gymnastics, because it was the perfect combo of the difficult tumbling & artistry. And I love your channel name, Silivas is my favorite gymnast of all time!

    the beam was wood and polished in the 1960's and not designed for back handsprings...the floor was not springy then either....Mukhina did a full twisting double... on 2 inch thick mats...i'd like to see gymnasts today doing their elements with yester years equipment...

    • @webgpu
      @webgpu 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      people use hundreds of tires laid on their sides, beneath the mats to make them act like "springboards" th-cam.com/video/68PiUYWA6qs/w-d-xo.html
      people would see those tires for themselves by just lifting one of the floor's tiles

    Gymnastics back in 70s and 80s was the best creative graceful artistic and about all the routines was spectacular . Today just are boring everybody do the same thing.

    @dalmationham Yeah, it's really a shame too. 4 element passes were my absolute favorite :-) The only girl I know of today that does that is Li Shanshan from China. She does a back handspring, back handspring, layout, Korbut flip. That's really the only series I've seen since "96. :-(

    the 80's is definatly a good eara in gymnastics to make a montage about. in the early to mid 80's the had the uneven bars as close together as parallel bars and in the late 80's they had the further apart ones, its good cuz u can see history in just one decade

    Absolutely loved it. All the clips are so awesome, but I didn't think the music went too much with the vid.
    I want to know who these gymnasts are: First two gymnasts, 1:02, 1:10, 2:22. Thanks

      because society is "de-evolving" - letting deformed (not thin and light) bodies to compete, telling them "it is alright if you don't have a slender figure"

  • @ludvka
    @ludvka 13 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    They did better tricks than gymnasts do today... yes, maybe it´s more difficult now, but a little bit boring..

    • @cookie91ize
      @cookie91ize 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of those moves have been banned for safety and the way the bars is set up now most of those skill would be nearly impossible to do but i agree the sport sucks now although i miss it

      I don't agree it's more difficult today , most of these moves are awesome...much rather watch these than today's gymnasts. ..

    yeah i don't think they even allow four element tumbling passes on beam anymore. like the girl at 1:29. they had those through the 96 olympics for shure tho.

    Is it just me or does it seem like the gymnastics of the 1980's was so much more creative and unique than now? It all seems so cookie cutter now with not much originality--ya know???

  • @Courtneynolen1
    @Courtneynolen1 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    difficulty on bars has definately decreased... the dismounts thopugh pretty much easier than now. i dont know if it is for safety or just because the gymnasts arent pushed as much..?

    80's gymnastics had original moves and fun dance elements which are lacking in today's robotic performances.

    For all those saying this was the golden age of gymnastics and today’s is garbage- let me point out some reality to you.
    1.) Gymnasts of the 1980’s were predominantly STARVED, GROSSLY OVERWORKED little girls forced to push so far beyond the limits by their countries (the USSR and Romania being the biggest guilty parties) it caused countless serious injuries and mental health issues. These young girls were horribly abused, bullied and mistreated all for the sake of winning at any cost.
    2.) There was a gross amount of corruption in scoring for gymnastics- particularly world and Olympic competitions- it was as unfair a setting as has ever been seen in any sport in history. The USSR in particular had the judging in their control, and THEY decided who won and who lost. That is not a golden age, that is a TARNISHED one. I have lost count of the number of truly deserving, amazing athletes who were blatantly screwed out of being Olympic champions simply because they weren’t the ones chosen to be so.
    I do agree that this era had tremendous variety, innovation, creativity and pizzazz- but so does current gymnastics. Uneven bars continues to see new combinations, new transitions every year- if people stop uselessly lamenting the past and pay actual attention. The dance in today’s gymnastics is DIFFERENT than the ballet of yesteryear, but this is artistic GYMNASTICS, not artistic BALLET. If you are so enamored of dancing, you can always watch rhythmic gymnastics- or dancing! There are plenty of us who appreciate the exciting, high energy routines of today just as much and who don’t see the need to demean them simply because they don’t “dance” like the past.
    In all seriousness, if you don’t like what you see today, DO NOT WATCH. The gymnasts of today, who actually look like ATHLETES and not unhealthy little stick figurines deserve the same respect and courtesy as those who came before.
