I was a mechanic at a heavy truck shop. I built a few boxes like that. The cut-aways on the sides is an old trick, but a great update to yours would be to paint the hooks to know which are long and short chains. I also put chunks of 8" pipe inside vertically to house each long chain. That kept all chains from covering others and making them heavier than need be. One thing I think you goofed on is making the cut-aways too deep. It looks like you could steal chains from your box. Maybe your not worried about that, but a few of our long haulers went to some pretty sketchy places. Like you said, it can always be re-welded and changed. Always loved coming up with better things and making them work!! My boss was sure shocked at all of our drivers telling him how much they liked the new chain boxes. Yeah, the boss thought I was wasting time.. Showed him!!!!

Letting the shop time slide, is a class move Captain Kleeman ! I'm sure Mike will take note, and keep treating you like the valued employee you are.

  • @bigpatrck2

You guys might want to paint the hooks on the chains or the first couple links to indicate which ones are the long ones and which ones are the short ones. It will wear off, but something easy to do to save you from rummaging through all the chains.

Cap’n, that low profile on the front of the trailer opens up a lot of loading options. I liked your clever solutions. Keeping the binders organized and inside the box is a smart move. I’ve never seen a mud flap that stopped all the dirt and grime from showering the trailer!
Now about that forklift mast… if the cylinder doesn’t work out on your dump trailer… you can make a log splitter that will split whole logs! Or, install it as a lift on the main mast of the TH-cam yacht! Think of the wind you’d catch. Or, weld a flag pole on the top and just run it up to full height when you want to show off… from your place, it’ll be the highest flag in Derby!
That was a great find… the possibilities are endless!!!
I hope you have a wonderful family Christmas!

Just a note on your remote mic, I found out, for myself anyway, it's just as easy to slip a small digital recorder in my shirt pocket with a mic plugged into it and then sync it up with the video in my editor. I used to hunt and move the sound to try to get them synced up but then I found this magical "Auto-Sync" function and that made it my go-to for around the shop and forging vids.
Oh yea, and I refer to it as not fabricate but fabricoble.

A couple of thoughts (sorry, not very deep ones). Seemed like when you were welding you were raising your hand a little in a tapping movement rather than following the seam in a line (but you got it stuck together regardless). And maybe hang both hooks of the long chain on box edge (less chain length to remove and less chance of loose hook catching anything). Harry's Business and a Happy New Beer.

Chains and binders are always a Pain in the butt too keep organized on a Trailer. You did a good job getting them straightened out. The forklift front end. I figured You would either put a 3 point hitch attachment on it. So You could hook it up on the back of your tractor. Or the Skidsteer bucket attachment like you talked about, only using it all too make your little tractor into a forklift..LOL.You could take one lift out so you can use that part for your road Drag. All just suggestions. Great Video...
